WTA week of 3/31; Charleston 500 & Bogota 250

And she was double bageled just last week by coco in Miami. Wonder if any other recipient of a double bagel has gone on to win their next tournament.

Kevin actually came close to doing this before, got double bageled by azarenka at 2020 Rome, then made the final the next week at RG
Sharapova almost did it too.

Double bageled by Davenport in the SF of Indian Wells in 2005.
Made the final of Miami the following week but lost to Clijsters.

Something to be said about Pegula's consistency this year (other than that shock Aus Open loss). But especially the last 5 weeks.

Runner up in Adelaide to Keys
3R at Aus Open to Danilovic
Doha QF to Alexandrova
Dubai 3R to Noskova
Champion in Austin
4R in Indian Wells losing to Svitolina
Runner up in Miami to Sabalenka
Now in the final in Charleston

If she beats Kenin in the final she'll overtake Gauff for #3 in the world.

She's won 16 of her last 18 matches.

Should be a decent final. Pegula might be favourite but I could see Kenin winning it on the day, maybe. Pegula is what Kenin could potentially still be IMO.

Both players have an issue with finals. Pegula is only 7-10 and Kenin has lost her last 3.

Just tuned in with Pegula down 2-5 in the second set. Absolute meltdown from Kenin to lose the set and match 7-5. Pegula was ruthless in taking command but Kenin, even in her improvements of late is still mentally fragile.

Two results everyone has been waiting for…

Solana Sierra beats Leyre Romero Gormaz to win a clay 125 in Turkey.

Darja Semenistaja over the attractive Dalma Galfi in the Spain 125.

So with this result, Pegula took Coco's 3rd position, Navarro dropped out of the top 10. Pegula is the oldest bunch in the top-10 at just over 31yo. Keys, after 15 years on the tour just made her career high rank at #5 this past Feb 2025, just a week after she turned 30. Next oldest is Paolini who reached her career high of #4 last Oct at just a few months shy of her 29th birthday. It has been said by some that Paolini is a "late bloomer", seems like Keys is even more so at reaching her career high when she's 30.

Hopefully she can win a slam, fingers crossed.

Keys has played at a high level her entire career. Prior to this AO, she just struggled to keep her level high enough for an entire slam. Paolini was really a lower level (than Key and her current form) player until 2024. I don't think she was in the top 100 before a few years ago.
