Countries that follow religious holidays shouldn’t be allowed to host tournaments during those periods. It’s 2025 and tennis is a business. The winner of Stuttgart should be ready to play their next event the Monday after the final should they wish.

if Iga starts getting rolled on clay her days as a #1 player are long gone

I realize this is a special case in Ostapenko but her confidence will be at an all-time low if this continues

Ostapenko is the outlier for Swiatek so it’s hard to base her future clay career on this H2H. But it isn’t great, I’ll give it that. She’s still hanging in here and if she can somehow pull this out it’ll be incredibly huge for her.

But again, this is just the Stuttgart 500. This isn’t Madrid or Rome. And it’s not the French Open where she’s won 4 of the last 5. But she won’t want to draw Ostapenko at all.

Fun thing for her is, Jelena is pretty **** at the slams so she’ll probably be fine. Andreeva is Probably more the worry for her.

Swiatek double faults. I don’t think she’ll win this match but also, this is just a H2H issue for Iga.

Ostapenko isn’t that fantastic I’m sorry to say. She’s not winning this match so much as Iga is giving it away. Jelena has never won a Masters, she’s insanely inconsistent at the big tournaments. Shes made one slam SF since her 2017 RG title and that was Wimbledon 2018 almost 7 years ago. Jelena looked promising at the start of last year and faded off. This year she lost 1R at the AO.

Jelena lives rent free in Iga’s head but for Jelena, she needs to work out how to beat the player in the next round after Swiatek cause she don’t usually back it up.

Swiatek with 6 double faults is insane. That’s just not Iga, but Penko does something to her.

It would be nice if Jelena could be consistent enough to actually do something with this and win titles but she’s such a hopeless headcase. Although with Alexandrova destroying Pegula, she has a good chance at another 500 final where she’ll probably get smoked as usual.

Stunning game by Iga and she breaks and will serve for set 2.

This could make for an interesting 3rd set! But Easter Sunday looms tomorrow so I may not stay up to watch it, hope it’s enjoyable

And she holds. We are going 3.

well, I don't stream TC and they've moved on to Alcaraz match

if I'm producer I stay with the women and then pick up Alcaraz

Iga gets fed the most powderpuff second serve on break back point and puts it LONG! This is why she will always be your daddy.

her problem is she's no one elses daddy...wouldn't hurt her to win a big tournament again or she's going to be known as Swiatek's unruly neighbor

There are worse things to be.
sure...she's a major winner, nobody can take that away from her, and she owns a five time major winner...she just doesn't compete and win consistently enough for her talent

and you do have to question her work ethic, getting in better shape would only help I assume

Most European countries follow the Christian holidays though

Jelena neutralizes Iga's high-bouncing balls like they're nothing. She either hit them super early thus avoiding the high bounce or hit winners off the high bounce 2HBH like it was routine shots. She pretty much plays clay as if it were on hard court. She continued to apply pressure to Iga's FH and 2nd serves. Jelena's DTL 2HBH is a perfect weapon against Iga's FH "weakness".

Funniest thing is, people (on betting sites and tennis specialists in general) keep predicting Swiatek's win every time she faces Ostapenko. The odds for Ostapenko were around 3.50 and it was the same in Doha. The "win-predictor" of Stuggart before the match said Swiatek 73%, Ostapenko 27%. They will never learn. Maybe they need a 10-0 H2H until they finally consider the opposite result. lol

It was their first meeting on clay, so
good reason for the bookies to think Swiatek might have turned the tables.

If they meet again in Rome or Paris, Swiatek might still be highly fancied. No indoor conditions there to help Ostapenko. If Swiatek can't even win against her in those places, it could literally end up 10-0 or whatever.

I didn't like the look of Swiatek's shots today. It just looks too easy to set up for a big hit against anything she sends over. She's defending a mass of points over the next 2 months. Her seeding could be errr interesting come Wimbledon.

semis
Sabalenka-Paolini
Ostapenko-Alexandrova

Sabs only had to play one match to get to semis. Playing only 3 matches to win a 500, not a bad deal.

What a wine head, must be some history between ref and Sab. She went out and looked at the mark, and it looked out. reminds me of the old Jimmy Connors point where he crossed the net and rub the mark away. She’ll be lucky if she doesn’t get a fine out of this one.
