Stuttgart is loaded, especially for only a 28-player field.

Barty/Halep/Kenin/Svitolina get R1 byes. Sabalenka/Pliskova/Kvitova/Bencic round out the seeds. Petra v. Brady in R1 sucks for both.

Istanbul ain't bad for a 250 either, they actually have a full 32. Mertens/Martic/Kudermetova/Kasatkina are top 4.

It's a nice to have an indoor clay court tournament, as it adds a bit of diversity to a tour too dominated by outdoor hard court events for my liking. I hope Sakkari who I've become a big fan of can have a good week, or at least beat Petkovic tomorrow and take it from there.

I quite like Kontaveit as well, so I hope she can set-up a 2nd round match against Kenin.

It will be interesting to see how Kudermetova gets on in Istanbul on the back of her big title win last week. When Pera is firing she's a lot of fun to watch, but I think she hasn't won back to back matches since Doha early last year, and often struggles in the mental strength department.

I'd kind of forgotten about Buyukakcay until I saw that she got a wildcard at Doha and faced Kerber in the 1st round earlier this year. It would be lovely to see her winning a round in her home tournament if she can. I was happy to see her winning this tournament a few years ago.

Yeah Buyukakcay [Bigwhitetea] has had a hard trot for a while. I also hope she does well. also looking for sakkari to crash through the mental wall that's been holding her back.

Happy that Maria enjoyed an easy win today. Either Kvitova or Brady await in the next round.

I said this on another thread, but she definitely has the game to do very well on clay. She moves very well (also she grew up on the surface in both Athens and when she visited the Sanchez-Casal academy in Barcelona), is in superb shape physically, is a big fighter, has a dangerous topspin forehand, an improved serve and can combined aggressive and percentage tennis.

Of course there’s a very deep and congested field out there (just look at how strong these week’s two events are), and a lot of the time it feels like almost anyone can beat anyone.

I watched the Brady, Kvitova 1st rd match, and Brady hit most of her groundstroke right to Kvitova forehand without Kvitova even taking a step. Kvitova on the other hand, hit her groundstrokes in the open court a good 15/ft away from Brady. Brady got lucky on her stab volleys however. I think if Brady hit her groundstrokes away from Kvitova she would of won the match easily. Just do not get Brady’s coaching on this tactic?

Istanbul: shame about Buyukakcay. Both she and Aurrabarrena have not been able to get past initial stages of tournaments for quite some time.

I was hopeful about Buyukakcay winning after she took the first set, but then she looked to fade away pretty quickly.

Some intriguing matches today, including Kvitova-Sakkari in Stuttgart. I hope Sakkari can get the win, but any outcome is possible there. I saw that their h2h currently stands at 2-2, with 3 of the matches going to a 3rd set.

I'll be following Kvitova vs Sakkari with much interest but it may be after the fact. These games don't seem to correspond with my waking time.

Looks like German Angie Kerber will make to the 2nd round of her home tournament! She actually lives in Poland however. 6-2, 6-2 over Georgia's Gorgodze.

The 2R lineup is insane, some matches complete but still something to behold:

#1 Barty v Siegemund
Ostapenko v #6 Pliskova

#4 Svitolina v Kerber
Sakkari v #7 Kvitova

#5 Sabalenka v Friedsam
Kontaveit v #3 Kenin

#8 Bencic v Alexandrova
Vondrousova v #2 Halep

7 slam champs, 7 of the top 10.

Just saw the Kvitova /Sakkari replay. That was intense. The cooler head won as always. Still waiting for Maria to stop beating herself (uP?)

Can someone please help?
I loathe using Google, but for tennis scores they are usually the best.
For some reason the WTA tournies are not showing up now with Google for scores.
Anyone have the links for the current WTA tournies for Google scores?
ATP is working fine for Barcelona.

Ugh Konjuh needs to fix her game especially on the return. Not sure how much her past injuries affect her serve, these DFs is getting ridiculous.

Bianca Kostyuk is thru.

Very embarrassing by Barty to be struggling with Pliskova on clay. Shows that her French victory might have indeed been a fluke
