WTA week of 4/3; Charleston 500 & Bogota 250

What the heck was that just now ? Collins just Tanked in the 3rd set against rogers. Its like she didn't want to be there and wanted out and take the appearance money and get out of dodge. maybe she didn't like that new Technifiber racket ??

She is not having a good year. Tough to compete week in week out on the tour. I dont think we give enough credit to those who are consistent.

I swear watching Kenin’s body language, especially as she’s waiting for a serve, makes me tense just from her nervous energy.
Yeah, but that seems to be her thing. She looked mentally strong during her AO win, while exuding that same energy.

I always pull for her, though. Seems like she is a nice person and she deserves better from the American media (that ignore her completely).
We always tease/troll/joke about how horrible Ostapenko’s outfits look, but mmmaaannnnn!!!……… Danielle is such a pretty lady but WHO PICKED HER KIT??!!! Black top, glam purple skort, pale yellow shoes! :X3: :p
Danielle is not my type (objectively she is pretty, but the tour is full of beautiful women), but her skirts seems shorter than usual lately, and I'm not complaining.

But yes, Ostapenko's stuff is just a completely joke right now. Giorgi has her own clothing line, and it looks AMAZING. Ostapenko tries to do the same, and it's like a child designed it.

Yeah, I think she got by for a while on her "fight," carried over from her college days. Now it seems harder for her to get in the fighting mood for these early matches in small events. It's a grind. A well paying grind, but a grind nonetheless.

Collins has some nice glutes and is not afraid to show them. I'm ok with that.

You gotta know when to fold ‘em, when to walk away, as the great Kenny Rogers say… lol… Pliskova, GM, Venus should all call it a career. Time to enjoy the sunshine and rest old weary bodies.
I think it's easy to forget how recently some of the players you said were doing well. Muguruza was #3 at the start of last year, just 15 months ago. Pliskova was in a slam final less than 2 years ago and has made back to back slam QF's. I don't think they should retire. Venus on the other hand...

I see that Alycia Parks failed to impress again today. I know her opponent had a nice little run at the AO, but she's hardly a tough draw.

Indeed. Most of the players on the tour are in excellent shape, and it's great when they are confident enough to keep the extra attire out of the way.

Muguruza is a mystery. She had a really rough period before coming back to #3, winning the tour finals in the process. Now she seems lost again, but who's to say she cant come back again? She's only 29. Pliskova also looked like she was coming back into form recently, so who knows. And as for Venus, I think she still wants a last hurrah, and I think she still believes she can compete here and there.

Who to root for? A friend's daughter or a friend's friend in Charleston?

What a serendipity they meet against each other.

wow,, Houston clay not getting any love on ATP side ? No thread on this and Tennis channel hardly showing any matches from there... Us MEN want equal treatment..... where is the equality of all sexes.

Female version of JJ? Chubby college player, terrible fashion sense, giving good pro players a tough match, lol.

Pegula/Irina Begu on right now. Begu got a new nose. I was neutral on her until she threw her racket or hit a ball into the stands at a kid last year at some tournament and now she's on my unfavorites list.

Who is this Shnaider? German last name, no flag, going to NC State. Lefty young, power FH.
Wait, so she decided to go to college? I thought she wasn't sure after the AO, and these recent results definitely make me think she should just start touring.

She has! Pretty incredible come back. She has the momentum so let's see if she will close it out.

And a spectacular great comeback fro Gul. At 1 point she’d lost 9 straight games. NINE STRAIGHT! Then she surged back and WON !
Love this woman. Proud of her to be the Best American women’s player.

When Pegula was up in the second, I thought it was a done deal and placed a large bet on her (well, large for me anyway) even though the payoff was small, thinking I couldn't lose. If I believed in jinxes, then this would have seemed like the ultimate jinx as right after, Pegula lost 9 games in a row! But it wasn't a jinx as Pegula comes back from 0-4 down in the final set to win it all.

Belinda wins, then cold-cocks Shelby during the handshake.

I may have made up one part of that.
