WTA week of 4/4; Charleston 500 & Bogota 250

Laura Pigossi v. Tatjana Maria in the Bogota final. This appears to be Pigossi's first main draw tourney since Brazil 6 whole years ago, wow.

Bogota finalists are ranked #212, #237. At least Osorio (#1 seed) lost in SF. Haddad Maia (#2 seed) lost in 2nd round.

BJK Cup used to be the Fed Cup. Recently renamed.

Anyway, the final today. Heart wants Jabeur; head says Bencic.

Mirza's serve must've been one of the slowest in the tour. It was around 82-86mph for first serves and 75mph on second.

She was known for her strong groundstrokes from both wings and for her weak second serves and mobility.

The Pavman and me are in the same boat today. Heart wants Ons. Don’t see a path for her, especially with an ailing back, to beat the SwissBeast. (Not named Wawrinka).

When Mirza first came on the tour, she was India’s most popular female sport athlete! She has really changed since then and has gone strictly to becoming a double’s specialist. I would have thought she is Mirza’s mom, not Mirza.

Another match with a giant shadow across the court. Seems like it would be easy in software to compensate for at least part of that, but maybe it makes the players look funny if they’re half out of the dark part of the screen.

In Bogota Final ... Never seen Tatjana Maria match before. Wow, she slices pretty much every balls FH & BH. Reminds me of Niculescu. She was ranked #46 at her highest career. Still ranked #135. Not bad for someone hitting with all slices.

According to a commentator yesterday, Jabeur is usually a slow starter. I wonder whether that shadow is affecting her. I've played under shadows and it was very tough. You think you 'got it', then suddenly the ball "disappeared" for a brief moment, enough to screw up your timing/swing.

Hahaha, cameraman zooms in like crazy on a distant military supply (?) plane, then zooms out to a full-screen view of the American flag. Excellent work. :)

I know I complain about this like every month, but does anyone here actually try to watch those after-the-set highlights that the WTA does? I actively look away so I don’t get seasick, good grief..

Bencic was right about the call (Jab's ball was out).
All she did was put her racket behind the ball and the ball bounced back to Jabeur.
That's all she did. She stopped after that.
She should have won the point, the mark was the evidence. At the very least the point should been played over.

I wish WTA live stats shows UE. It seems like they intentionally leave it out. Only the TV broadcasts show those numbers. Jabeur's UE must be pretty high. She won very low percentage of her first serve.

Well, she kind of hesitated, she did get back into position kind of half-hearted. Tough decision, glad I'm not an umpire!
