I a fan of Alize so I cannot go against her! :giggle:
Sorry Harry_Wild I really do NOT like her, she always seems to have drama in her matches and I personally watched her in a match in Saint Petersburg treat the ball boys/girls like crap. Not a fan of her at all.(n)

Hate to see Barty lose, she's a classy and talented person. But Badosa was probably brought up on clay.
I agree Barty is such an great example of what the WTA should be, I have a lot of admiration for her. I was happy to see Paula get a win, I think she's on the rise for upcoming the clay court season.

No Sloane v Barty... Shame.

Glad Sloane has got a few Ws this week. It's such a shame the way she's played the past few years as her ceiling especially on clay and hard is a very good level, hence what we saw with a GS W and F in the space of a year in 17/18. I'm not holding out hope as I think she's had a few consecutive wins before and it's easy to get ahead of oneself thinking she's back, so it's just a fingers crossed this time.

If anyone's hanging around and plays the Charleston 2 WTA 250 tournament next week they could be a double champ in Charleston! I'm routing for Jabeur now, she deserves some success, but Kudermetova seems to be pretty solid, and Kovinic and Badosa playing what appears to be some of the best tennis of their careers, so it's certainly not foregone.

I saw Gauff and McNally withdrew from the doubles. I know Gauff is entered into Charleston 2 so I'm not sure if that'll now be effected by this withdrawal if it's related to her. Just waiting for Gauff and McNally to peak at a major and win the doubles there.

Excellent serving and hitting from Badosa, and I was impressed at how well she handled and managed her nerves, especially after the 2nd set meltdown against Bencic.

I would like to see a Badosa-Jabeur final, but of course now that I've said that we'll probably get a Kudermetova-Kovinic one !

So it's Osorio Serrano vs. Zidansek in the Bogota final tomorrow. The 19 year old Osorio Serrano demolished Tan and has strolled through to the final on home soil with little trouble.

Congrats! We will get a maiden title winner tomorrow.

Whenever I clearly state preference for which finalists I want to see, the opposite normally happens !

I saw that this is Kovinic's first WTA final appearance for 5 years. Her run to the final, after losing something like 7 out of her 9 previous tour level matches before this week, has to got to be the biggest shock of all. Kudermetova will surely be the favourite to win tomorrow, but this has been a tournament of upsets !

Kudermetova had to much accuracy. Badosa had a little more power but Kudermetova had the winning tactics too!

I’m very happy that the 19 year old Osorio Serrano has won her first WTA title and in her home country ! Things looked to be getting tense in that final set, but she held her nerve.

Who knows what lies ahead for her, but she’ll always remember this moment fondly.

I believe this is the first time that a player from South America has won a WTA singles title in 6 years, since Teliana Pereira won 2 in 2015.

Reminds us how hard it really is to win even one title.

Definitely. I know we can talk about micky mouse titles and such, but trying to establish a career as a pro tennis player is brutally difficult. And that's generally far more difficult for South American female players compared to ones from Europe, the USA etc. given the lack of junior / ITF level / WTA level tournaments in the continent, the huge distances to travel, the lack of support from federations especially compared to male players who often don't receive much themselves etc. Becoming a solid top 100 player guaranteeing direct entry into all 4 grand slams each year, and an established WTA tour level player, if a player can achieve that, it's a significant achievement.

Several promising juniors players, male and female, that have received quite a lot of attention of the years, been the subject of features on programmes like Trans World Sport etc, have struggling to get anywhere near winning a tour level title. I remember the BBC in the UK really hyping up a player called Jade Curtis in the mid 00s (her dad came across as a complete a-hole). She ended up as an assistant tennis teacher in a club in the US I believe - I'm not mocking that at all and at least her career is linked to her hobby / passion, it just goes to show how difficult it is to make it.

Logically, Kudermetova should win the match....and she did over Danka! Both are going to move in rankings my guess 9 and 26 spots in the rankings! Well done!

Well done to Kudermetova. Winning her first WTA title at a tournament like this with such a rich history will be special.

Osorio Serrano’s title win means that 3 of the 4 junior champions from 2019 have won their first WTA titles within the last month. That is very encouraging.
