Boulter and Snigur played a game with 34 points in it this morning. I wonder what the record is for that.

Edit - Boulter and Snigur ended up playing exactly 50 points to get them from 1 sitdown to the next sitdown.

^^ Based on Youtube highlights of that match: Boulter seemed to play very tactically unwise, often running like poor hunted fox while giving her shots to Snigur so that the Ukrainian usually didn't even have to take one step to side!??

Dart beating Kalinina is a surprise at least for me. She then probably beats Boulter too...

Nice win for Jodie. She has great shots, top 50 stuff, she just needs to work a lot with a sports psychologist as her head is maybe top 500 at best.
 
And the British streak goes on this week. If any of Burrage, Boulter, Dart, or Watson win the title, we'll have a top 100 player once again.

Not really that surprising, similarly to the French the Brits throw the kitchen sink (a barrage of players) at these local events, and they're probably the players who get to practice on grass the most. Always a lot of British vulturing at these events, which then results in overestimating them when in fact they mostly disappear for the rest of the year.
 
Just to prove his point wrong, one whole year ago, Ms. Dart was the only Brit in the Nottingham quarters.

If you get into the top 100 though you can play a lot more WTA events which offer greater ranking points so you can experience a snowball effect. Watson hasn't been top 50 for ages but should be the British #1 given her Wimbledon result of last year. Boulter and Dart are also in a really awkward ranking spot. I think Boulter got injured when she was last ranked at her highest so it would be nice if she does have a chance to be top 100 again and injury free. I think her game is very Ivanovic like but clearly she's not as talented. She could do with some more big matches as she also seems very wobbly when serving out matches. Burrage is the youngest of the 4 so it will be interesting to see what she can do going forward. We still have Birmingham before Wimbledon so the Brits are playing well now but the top players will catch up once they've played warm up events. A couple of R3 appearances would be good going for this crop. I'd love to see Watson reach R4 again for redemption and I do think she is quite a smart grass player, loads of matches on grass over her career and generally plays way above her normal tour ability on home turf which is totally reasonable as it happens to many players.

Boulter v Watson

British women have done literally zilch in 2023. I think Boulter won an ITF somewhere. In terms of WTA performance though, I can't remember any decent run since Swan reached the semi final in India last September (?), which was probably around the time Raducanu did the same in Seoul.

Snigur was getting great pace/depth/angle on her shots until late in the 1st set. I think Boulter was aggressive as she could be without overplaying and hitting more UEs. Very entertaining set until Snigur's level dropped at the end.

I'm with Scent on this one. They have a lot of experience on grass, and they have probably been practicing on the surface for a while longer than anyone else.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Being super specialized on grass and then using the short grass court season to get enough points to qualify for big events the rest of the year, is a pretty good strategy and way to make a living.

Yeah, Watson was very close to beating Serena at Wimbledon once. Which was probably one of the hardest things to do in the sport a few years ago.
Contrary to the French, she seems to rise to the occasion at her home Slam. She's just not good enough to go all the way.

That's generous. She's won 11 and lost 12 at Wimbledon.
 
Jodie Burrage apparently only had 4 match wins on the WTA tour coming into this tournament (in her entire career). I find that amazing given she was on the brink of the top 100 prior to the French Open. It never occurred to me players might get into the top 100 on mostly ITF wins alone.
 
I have just been watching the cornet v mandlik match. Very good battle. I think cornet has a good shot at winning the event now, infact she looks a dead certainty with the British players left. She doesn't have a big serve which is why I'm sure she hasn't gone higher as from the baseline she is a level above the Brits all Day long, the standard of hitting this evening was incredible and I'm glad I was courtside. The men's is a challenger and there have been a few good battles like the lad today loffhagen doing really well making the step up after recently taking the ITF title at Nottingham which I saw a few weeks ago.

At the net they shook hands but Dart said something about Boulter being unprofessional. It was hard to make out. Boulter's reply was easier to hear for some reason. She said she does that celebration every match and that it's nothing personal.

Dart had been in a grump all match tbh, complaining at many line calls, sometimes 2 points in a row.

Yay Katie! The most beautiful woman in tennis reaches her first career final and finally returns into the top 100. I believe that contractually she is now required to dump the mouse-faced Aussie and get her (breathtaking) rear end back in the market.
 
Honestly not bothered who wins tomorrow. I've supported Katie for longer, but if Jodie wins we'll suddenly have 2 Brits in the top 100 out of nowhere really, and good grounds to think they could stay there until next year's Nottingham.

It's going to be nice to finally say that US Open 2021 is no longer our most recent WTA victory. Time to move on from it.
 
Impressive level from Burrage, if she is playing at a similar level to this tomorrow she will win. Boulter has a big power game but I think Burrage is destined to win this one. Surprised the young french lad beat koepfer to be honest in the men's, big ask now against Murray in the final.

Yep, and it's annoying 100% of the time. I'd really like to see some of them point to their heads when they lose a match, or make a silly error.
