WTA week of 6/17; Berlin 500 & Birmingham 250

For the lower ranked Brits in the draw it was about getting useful tour experience via the qualies/Rd1. Amelia Rajecki had two fantastic wins which will stand her in good stead.

Navarro is ranked 18th but she's also American, which makes her the only the 5th highest ranked player from her country. Once she gets past Collins and Keys, she might get noticed more. Ultimately though, she's in the era of Coco Gauff. She might have to get used to playing 2nd fiddle for a lot of her career.

Maybe if she won something bigger than her solitary 250 title, that would show em?
I agree with everything you wrote. I'm not really surprised that Navarro is ignored in the US, and the reasons you listed are correct. I was just pointing out that this 5th ranked American, a virtual nobody here, is still higher ranked than any British woman.

But Dart is out now too, so I'll leave you alone for a bit, as things have returned to more or less normal (at least on the women's side, as the Draper hype will no-doubt be hilarious on the men's side).

Looks painful. It wasn't the most dynamic push off though, maybe a chance it's not a season ender?

Pretty much identical to the dynamic of Tiafoe's injury a few days ago. Still haven't seen an update on him, so not sure of the severity.

Also, so pretty interesting quarter-final matches in Berlin. Gauff-Jabeur, Sabalenka-Kalinskaya and Azarenka-Rybakina should all be fun.

And I saw that the Pegula-Gauff doubles match was finally completed, with the Americans getting spanked by Siniakova and Noskova. Just a couple of weeks after Guaff-Siniakova won the French together, I guess we know who was carrying the water with that pairing.

Were the commentators doing the whole "Wellll she probably feels there's no point pushing it with Wimbledon around the corner"?

And to continue with the "quit theme", after getting a free pass to Semi, Azarenka (and partner Badosa) also WO from their doubles match. Badosa is not playing in Singles, so she came to Berlin just to play one doubles match??

An Ajla v. Yulia final in Birmingham could be fun.

Usually the player with more BP opportunities but doesn’t convert any, loses. Gauff is 0/9 and Jabeur is 0/2. Of course Jabeur is winning despite having faced 6 set points. Funny how tennis works.
