Watching the replay on TC tonight. Shnaider and Vekic is a slugfest. Hitting hard with lots of winners and few errors. A real good match. I know Shnaider won, but Vekic actually won more points. Close.

Ok, we are just going in circles at this point. I agree that the withdrawals are bad (although not as catastrophic as you feel they are), but we agree on that.
So what is the solution? Getting rid of events the week before a slam? Because the level of the event (250, 500... whatever) is never going to have a huge impact. Top players that want a little more grass prep will show up and pull out if advancing too far, and top players that don't want the extra prep will skip it. That's not going to change.
As I said after her match against Navarro, she was hitting the ball a ton, and it was only thanks to Navarro's great defense that she was in the match (and ahead at some point).
But yes, if Shnaider is "on," she can take it to anyone. She's basically like Ostapenko in that regard. But will she ever be "on" consistently?
Feel a little bad for Vekic, as she seems to work really hard and it would be nice to see her get a title.
But yes, now that some players are getting their timing on grass, those that can make good use of the incoming pace can send it back with interest, and the rallies can be really fun and fast.
