This one is a little earlier than usual because Bad Homburg starts in a few hours.

Bad Homburg draw

Don't see World #1 in many 250s week before a Slam. Iga gets T. Maria, but she's playing a 125 final later today.

Donna will likely also withdraw.

Bianca & Noskova could use a couple wins.

Eastbourne draw

Play begins Monday, plenty of qualie spots still to be filled.

We'll see if Petra/Jelena/Krejcikova stick around.

Rybakina is top seed, Boulter & Dart lead the Brits.

So no warm-up events for Karolina Muchova or Sloane Stephens - any word on whether they're carrying injuries or just decided not to get an matches in on grass before Wimbledon? Some players really do need some rhythm going into a major to do anything substantial... I hope this is precautionary and not players thinking you can play a load of tennis on clay and that be enough match play to take a mid-season break.

Burrage didn’t win.
I think given most of the Brit success came at Nottingham, it's obvious at this point they were able to vulture while the bulk of the top players were away. There's nothing wrong in this, I don't blame them at all, but expecting them to knock off big seeds this grass season based off Nottingham would be naive. Boulter has Krejcikova in R1 of Eastbourne, so we will see how that goes. I think Dart has a winnable match but forgot who the opponent is.

For what I know both are fine. I don't except much for Sloane in WB though. But Muchova is a serious dark horse.

I'd be less concerned about Muchova as I feel she has the tools for grass to find a way through and could play her way into the draw that way but SS just seems a little complacent in my opinion not playing a tournament. I presume she has a minor injury otherwise it just comes across as a R1 loss is to be expected.

^^^^^^thats a stacked tournament. A lot more juicy first round match ups than a slam, where there many more entries.

What's Barbora Strycova doing in the draw at Eastbourne (scheduled to play Madison Brengle on Court 2)? I thought she had retired!!

How many matches does Iga play this week? Her appearance fee must be stellar.

Could just be self-recognition that she doesn't have much pedigree on grass, and needs the practice.

Jodie Burrage meanwhile is really riding the lucky train this week; knocked out in the qualies, she played Lauren Davis in Rd 1 as a lucky loser today and won. Apparently Davis had an MTO (didn't see how much of a difference it made, if at all).

Next round for Jodie is the winner of Kvitova/Ostapenko. You would have to think the winner of that might be running at less than 100% come the last 16.

Maria comes back to win the opening set 7-5

Iga just not comfortable out there, and frustrated

Maria's slice game bothering her

Dart plays Kvitova or Ostapenko next. Those 2 are playing a repeat of last year's final in R1 and also both won the titles on offer last week. Burrage plays Gauff or Pera. Pretty handy playing some top players the week before Wimbledon if Gauff makes R2, and it's a given already for Dart.

triple break, 5-0

nice adjustments by Iga over the last two sets...Maria's certainly a unique player

Forgot to post about Kvitova's great title run last week.

Always love seeing Petra doing well and would love her to nab another slam. But she has a bad habit of showing up a week or two before Wimbledon only to fail at the slam.

Last year, 2022 she won Eastbourne the week before Wimbledon looking great, then lost 3R to Badosa.
2018 she won Birmingham 2 weeks before Wimbledon, then loses 1R to Sasnovich.
2017 also won Birmingham 2 weeks before Wimbledon, lost 2R to Brengle.

It's kind of surprising, Petra hasn't gone past the 4R at Wimbledon since she last won the title back in 2014. In fact, she's only won 9 matches at the 7 tournaments since then. Not great!

Boulter is one of the sexiest fallers ever, very nice-looking face-down buns up

Just realised Burrage is at match point for the 2nd time tomorrow in terms of breaking the top 100. Will be odds against though if it's Gauff.
