WTA week of 7/31; Washington DC 500 & Prague 250

Sakkari going for title #2 for the thousandth time.

Has 6 runner ups along with a ridiculous amount of big SF losses.

Can she finally win something bigger than a WTA 250 title?

Just cause it's fun to point out how poor Sakkari has been at SF's and finals:

She has made the following:
2021 US Open SF
2021 French Open SF

2021 WTA Finals SF
2022 WTA Finals SF

2017 Wuhan Open SF
2019 Italian Open SF
2021 Miami Open SF
2022 Qatar Open SF
2022 Indian Wells Final
2022 Guadalajara Open Final
2023 Indian Wells SF
2023 Madrid Open SF

2 slam SF's, 2 WTA Finals SF's, 2 WTA1000 Finals and 6 more WTA1000 SF's. Lost every single one of them.

Has also made the:
2022 Parma final
2022 St Petersburg final
2021 Ostrava final
2018 San Jose final

Lost them all.

lol. I was cooked when I went attended in 2008 or 2009. Didn't bring a hat or sunglasses = bad time. Got sick and left early :(

Gauff with a little bit of a hiccup now after not converting for double break. Sakkari with two chances to get back on serve.

Titles by top 10 players:

Swiatek: 15
Sabalenka: 13
Rybakina: 5
Pegula: 2
Garcia: 11
Jabeur: 4
Gauff: 4
Kvitova: 31
Sakkari: 1
Vondrousova: 2

Good times in Prague.

Fourth-seeded Linda Nosková eased past Germany's Tamara Korpatsch 6-1, 6-1 Sunday to advance to the final of the rain-hit Prague Open.

The 18-year-old Czech reached her second career final after Adelaide earlier this year.

On Monday, Noskova will face either Japanese lucky loser Nao Hibino or Jaqueline Cristian of Romania. Their semifinal was interrupted three times Sunday by rain before it was suspended at 15-15 in the eighth game of the third set with Hibino leading 6-4, 6-7(2), 5-2.

Rain washed out the entire Saturday schedule.

^ Dissappointing result. :( Though Linda was very up and down in the tournament. I saw her match on place against Ankita Raina and the first set was the worst playing I have ever seen from Linda. But then she started to get into the match and 3rd set and both sets in her next match were good stuff.

The arrangement of Prague tournament was ludicrous. It was like moving in a war zone from roadblock to roadblock! Courts 1 and 2 (the latter was used very little) are quite far from the main court and ticket and security check everytime you change and even as you leave. And I was quite pissed as my backpack was checked by same gentleman again in less than an hour - surely he remembered me and understood that I didn't get any explosives or weapons from the main court!? They also informed me via internet that tickets would only be on sale via internet vendor, but the first thing I saw approaching main court was a ticket office!?? (And therefore I was there on three days instead of originally planned two)

The line-up of players was disappointing: nobody even in top 30 and for example quarterfinalists were most outside top 100! And I had seen just the same players last autumn in Tallinn tournament (Noskova, Cristian, Martincova, Xinyu Wang (didn't see her in Prague, though, as I saw only 2nd round and QF-matches with the exception of Barbie Strycova's match that she sadly lost) Alize Cornet was interesting to see live - she has very freaky sounding breaths between the strikes that I haven't noticed watching from screen. I have such a weird taste that I would have really liked to see Dayana Yastremska but sadly she lost in 1R and didn't participate in the doubles. :(
And where were Fruhvirtovas, Muchova, Siniakova... ?

Hibino played and won 3 match points in a single day (singles SF, F and doubles F). 8-B

I'd guess most top players were getting ready for the Canadian Open.
