Not a real impressive 500 field.

Tokyo draw

Badosa/Garcia/Garbine/Kudermetova are top 4 with byes. Naomi v. Saville & Rybakina (if she shows) v. Samsonova are interesting R1 clashes. Kenin also in with her protected ranking.


Seoul draw

Ostapenko is top seed, Linette & Fruhvirtova will likely withdraw after Chennai. Emma plays a girl named Moyuka Uchijima, Genie gets Tatjana Maria.
 
Pretty pdf of Seoul, Tokyo still has plenty of spots to be filled.

Osaka is playing in Japan, that's a huge deal. and most of the big star players of WTA are playing.

on funny note,, Rybakina saids she doesn't really feel like she's the Wimbledon champion this year. she gets no attention and no Ranking boost and hardly any Endorsements...................wow.. what a travesty. if she was American,,, she would be worth around 60 million dollars right now..:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Rybakina was robbed. Dirty deal for her that she wasn't awarded the points.
 
Just now, the opener between Q. Wang and Elise Mertens was interrupted by rain at 0-3, Wang about to take her service game to make it 1-3.
Hope the predicted typhoon won't do too much damage in Japan.

When you consider that 10-15 top 100 players were missing, due to political posturing, you realize Wimbledon 22 was an inferior slam.

It didn't deserve points.

We can't allow points because that would be a bad precedent for politicians to start misusing sports even more for their nefarious crap.

Who beat Rybakina at Wimbledon 2021 in R4?

Sabalenka, a banned player.

She was the semifinalist last year. Kasatkina also was missing. So was Alexandrovna who won a grass title just before it. Samsonova who had a great HC season also. And many others. Who's to say none of them would have gone far or even won?

I get your points, thanks for taking the trouble to make them. My point was simply that I sympathize with Rybakina, who after all did win a much-valued Wimbledon trophy, strong field or weak. Only that. I like her game, and felt sorry that her achievement went relatively unacclaimed.

US events showed total lack of respect and intelligence. And I can understand how she's annoyed she has a weak ranking.

However, the way she's been performing since that slam win, she doesn't really deserve to be top 5.

She underperforms too often, but that's her fault. One day great, another day bad. Too random for a top 5 player, even for the WTA.

She is still clueless about what she needs to do on the court in some situations.

IMO she deserved the 2000pts. Ultimately though, if she's genuinely top 10 material she will have more success elsewhere and rise up the rankings regardless. I'm still not convinved she's not just another Pliskova, having said that.

Her lack of endorsements could be that she's part Russian and firms are nervous about touching her. If she were to win another slam in say, 2024, and the war is over by then, possibly she will be able to cash in more.

She needs to work on her marketability though. She's a good looking girl but she looked bored and miserable with that rose dish in her hand. She wouldn't exactly be my go-to to advertise Porsches.
 
Saville just went down in immense pain and has had to retire :( she’s only just gotten back to the top of her game. When apologising to Osaka for retiring she said “I’ve done my ACL before”. Not sure if she’s done it again or what but just gut wrenching.

Looked awful - she was stood up and walking at the end of the clip I saw. Hopefully it's nothing that requires surgery.

Horrible, a nightmare. I was looking forward to seeing more of her resurgence, have been a fan of hers since she was Gavrilova, and with Kasatkina, were called "The Two Dashas."
 
Fruhvirtova v. Wickmayer second on Centre in Seoul, followed by Emma v. Uchijima.

Garbine v. Papamichail first in Tokyo, Rybakina v. Samsonova third.
 
Hope Saville's injury is not too bad and wish her a quick recovery. I woke up earlier this morning to see the match but it was over. I then watched the replay a couple of hours later and found out the replay is just less than 30 minutes so my first thought was either of them had retired the match. It's terrible to see when it happened and hear Saville yell of pain but a little bit relieved when seeing she was able to walk eventually.
 
Wickmayer leads Linda Fruhvirtova by double break at 4-0. On paper this should’ve been an easy match for #75 Linda against the #450 veteran Wickmayer. Wickmayer is almost twice as old as Linda at 32 and 17, respectively.
 
Garcia splits sets with Zhang. Garcia’s BH is her money shot. She hits the ball very early on the rise and quite flat, redirecting and using the opponent’s ball very effectively. The harder Zhang hits to Garcia’s BH, the faster the ball comes back as a skidding winner.
 
I saw a few games of the 2nd set. She probably should have skipped this tourny. Nothing wrong with her physically, just looked...flat. She was giving away lots of soft rally balls that were just pounced on.
