Using the thread title layout of Spystud.
Might as well combine the two threads as Istanbul lacks many big names due to the ongoing terror threat.

Stuttgart is a Premier tournament.
Seeded players are; Radwanska, Kerber, Muguruza, Halep, Kvitova, Vinci, Suarez Navarro and Safarova.
A great bunch of unseeded players as well including; Ivanovic, Petkovic, Pliskova, Makarova and Konta.
There were quite a few injury withdrawals, these included; Bencic, Errani, Keys, Kuznetsova and Sharapova with her suspension.
Kerber is the defending champion in singles whilst Mattek Sands/Safarova are the defending doubles champ.
I've created a poll for who you think will win

Istanbul is an international tournament.
Seeded players are; Schmiedlova, Tsurenko, Putintseva, Flipkens, Kovinic, Hibino, Bondarenko and Larsson.
Many many withdrawals, the WTA allowed players to withdraw because of the recent terrorism events. These withdrawals include; Azarenka, Giorgi, Robson, Shvedova, Falconi, Hradecka, Watson & Wickmayer. Whilst Wozniacki withdrew with an injury. Many more withdrawals and some of these players moved to play in Stuttgart instead.
Tsurenko is the defending singles champ while Svitolina/Gavrilova were the defending doubles champs but looks like neither of them is playing
 
Is Vika just trying to **** us off by skipping all these Premiers to collect appearance fees in nowheresville? Ridiculous.

Anyone would think she's the 34 year old number one with the limited schedule she's playing. Also guess I was wrong about Keys wrist injury being minor as she's withdrawn from Stuttgart.
 
Also Oceane Dodin has knocked out both Brengle and Laura Robson in qualies. Faces the less known Pliskova for a spot in the main draw.

She's playing fed cup for Belarus. Vika seems to be one of the few intelligent women on tour who moderates her tournaments properly, for this year at least.

Exactly. She's become like Djokovic with her smart scheduling. Why should she play a bunch of crappy tune-ups. I wouldn't.

Angie, Garbine, & Halep also played Fed Cup. Stuttgart has 7 of the top 10 & is FAR from a "crappy tune-up", Vika should be there.


She also played Acapulco (before her fake injury) over Doha simply for the $, had zero to do with managing her schedule. Same exact reason she was entered into Instanbul here as well.

I don't give a sh*t why she entered into Istanbul. The lesser tournaments are scraps for players who can't win the big tournaments or for the bigger players who need some more match experience because they feel rusty. That's what they are there for. Azarenka needs to be smart with her scheduling and be like Djokovic, Federer, Serena, etc. She needs to keep her eyes on the bigger prizes at this point. Her legacy won't be bettered by winning Stuttgart or Istanbul.

I am not a crappy WTA fan. I want better rivalries on the WTA just as I do on the ATP. In fact I've stated that the WTA rivalries are somewhat better than the top rivalries on the current ATP. At least on the WTA you have Williams, Kerber, Azarenka who are making things a little bit interesting lately.

edit - nvm, Stuttgart televised matches start tomorrow according to tennistv schedule.
 
Wozniacki withdrawing from Istanbul means she lost her finalists points from Stuttgart. I don't know why she didn't enter Stuttgart. That's 305 points gone (although the live ranking only has her dropping 265 points? Didn't think the WTA had the same format as the ATP with non countable points). She drops down to 28th in the world.

Yeah, and those girls are also all carrying injuries every other tournament and then use it as an excuse on why they flop. Guess what girls, reduce your schedules like all the top players do. Kerber in particular is a joke with how many tournaments she plays, she'll be burnt by Wimbledon. The idea that Vika enters small tourneys for appearance fees is also laughable. In all of 2015 the only non premier event she entered was Birmingham in the grass season. She entered one minor tournament this year, Acapulco, which is a sensible tuneup to prepare for Indian Wells and Miami. If the other top women on tour were as professional as Vika and managed their schedule properly then just maybe there would be a little consistency at the top and the WTA as a whole would be in a better state.

As professional as Vika... Holy hell, we've heard it all now. She played ONE whole match in Acapulco for the check, not exactly a "sensible tuneup" for IW.


And Angie is the defending champ playing in her home country, that's being a professional.
 
And this is the part of "managing her schedule" that you are conveniently overlooking...

Wozniacki's good friend Azarenka has announced her participation for the tournament, making her debut appearance in Istanbul.

The former world number one and two-time Australian Openchampion will be another big draw for the tournament, and a potential match between Azarenka and Wozniacki could create a lot of interesting during the tournament.

So she willingly chose to enter the weaker of the the two tourneys before withdrawing. Why would a top player pick Instanbul over Stuttgart?
 
Chirico (over Giorgi), Dodin, Siegemund, Witthoeft all made the main draw, latter two being in their home country.

Feelsbadman... Although at the same time I think she should have adjusted her game a long time ago. I'm guessing Kas has stayed employed this long because he's not trying to change her game. She might like it that way, but she's not getting results by playing boom boom tennis every point.

I'll take it back if she has tried seriously adjusting her gameplan. To be honest I haven't watched her play in a long time. She doesn't stick around long enough in most tournaments for me to get the chance.

Different members have different interest levels.

Some like you are getting enough following top 10.


There are other folks here who follow ITF and challenger players ranked till 200

Yes, but if one can't chat about these things in a tennis forum, where else can one? Certainly not around the water cooler at work! Even mentioning one of the majors often meets with blank stares unless it's Wimbledono_O

At work , on the Minday after the final, it is always Serena vs the other girl , unless it is Sharapova .

If it is Serena vs Sharapova they wouldn't know as the match is over quickly

They aren't scraps, and even if they were, refusing that descriptor still wouldn't invalidate following smaller events and unknown players.

Well to me they are but as tennisaddict said, everybody has different interests.
 
I wouldn't call Premier tournaments "scraps". WTA internationals maybe, I mean Falconi won Bogota and it had like no major players. Premier tournaments usually have several top 20 players, not scraps.
 
And another. Kvitova double bagels Chirico. Isn't that only the 2nd and now 3rd double bagel of the year? And they both happened in the same day.
