She could definitely benefit from some tougher matches, but tonight seems more like a case of simply being off her game. It's not like she's making any obvious tactical errors. She's a half step slow so her footwork is off and that's leading to some really sloppy errors. Throw in an opponent who doesn't seem to miss and you have a recipe for disaster.

Her other rather easy losses to Pegula and Rybakina were the same: game is "off" and the capitulation is very quick.
There are clearly a few players who not only challenge Swiatek but seem to instil a paralysing fear in her.

She has 4 losses what are u talking about? She lost in team tournament and has lost in 3 other tournaments. Aussie. Dubai. Now here.
I don't count that team tournament, like counting the Hopman Cup as a loss. And also "now here" maybe wait for the actual loss before declaring it.

Swiatek breaks back.

I have a strange feeling that matches between Rybakina/Swiatek will be akin to Serena/Sharapova!

From what I’ve seen iga has the occasional off day where she just can’t keep the ball in play and looks a mess but it’s pretty few and far between. Her loss to krej was much better than this. I think she will find a way to shore up those off days. I’m certainly not counting her out.

Hopefully Rybakina can win the final and get her first win against Sabalenka. I like her game and personality but she has never beaten Sabalenka before.

Rybakina's serve is sick. Swiatek feasts on average serves but when someone's bombing them with accuracy and consistency, her game suddenly doesn't look so dominant.

Ps. this new UX 'feature' where the text selection goes transparent when you highlight characters/words, well, it's dumb, and I hope it will be sent for a bath in a volcano.

@McGradey, what OS are you using? iPad/Phone & my old, cheap laptop still work fine in America.

Ha, didn't know that forum existed. I only knew of this one that's been locked since 2018.

From the get-go, it appeared to me that Elena was playing a little more aggressively against Iga. She took away time from Iga and didn't let Iga play her game. Elena played attack-first game instead of letting Iga control the point. The few times when Iga managed to pull Elena wide, she managed to recover because of her reach and mobility - something that other opponents of Iga would've lost the point or the point after.

Elena also has the weapons from both wings to end the point quickly. Plus her serve of course help her getting cheap points. Where I saw her look uncomfortable with her shots was when she was returning low, short mid-court balls. Seemed to be unsure what shots to use - long approach shot or dropshot (which she didn't seem to have). Not too many of those yesterday since Iga doesn't really hit slicers like Barty.

The Wimbledon champ proved to be a worthy challenger to the #1.

I've been watching tennis for many decades and there's always a first for novelties.
I heard about this being discussed on the forum in the users' section but never a saw a pro do it.
Sab stepping on her strings to lower the string tension. :)
Mr McEnroe used to do it with woodie Maxply...
I'm sure many before him too.

Don't understand how Kasatkina is looking at going up to a career high #7 after this tournament (would only be stopped if Rybakina wins the title).

Kasatkina has won just 9 of her last 22 matches dating back to the US Open.

Rybakina is surely becoming a favourite of mine. Just so clean sound technique. Should be top 3 at least.
Just can not stand watching Swiatek play. Especially her forehand, but it works for her.
Yes I am starting to really appreciate her game.
The only 'weakness' she has to my eyes is is relatively slow movement laterally on court.
Because her ground strokes are so powerful she is able to hide this shortfall most of the time.

Lol....what a pair of wimps Krejcikova and Siniakova are! They couldn't even manage to lift that big block of ice they've just been presented with for winning the women's doubles!!

Maybe there should be a rule: if you can't lift the trophy you can't be awarded it?

Swat-it claims she had a rib injury for the Ryba match.
Rib injury, Ryba match, get it? :)
Anyway, expect a miracle recovery in time for Miami.
