Guys, when you say you feel tired/bored of Fedal, remember that their 6 years (2004-2010) is just a short blip in tennis history.

In 5 years from now, when Fedal is definitely over, you will be wishing you could see those 2 play together again, and not on some senior tour, or charitable exhibitions, or trophy ceremonies, or XBox 720 ("Player 1: choose your player"), but live at their peaks.

You will frequent the "Former Pro Player Talk" forum, will annoy youngsters worshipping new tennis stars with your rusty nonsense about some pre-historic Swiss and Spanish guys. You will be ignored or giggled at, unless the rivalry continues and becomes so overwhelmingly great that nobody will ever forget it.
I love this post! It's so true. Fedal will not last forever which is why we should spend more time enjoying it, than tearing both of them down. Just like who you like, no shame in that.

I have to say again. That for tennis, it is so good that Federer won this, and Nadal lost an important final for once.

Federer prevented a total tennis shutdown, by one guy winning all the big titles on all four surfaces. Certainly a good thing for the sport to know that there are players who believe they can beat Nadal in the big matches.

This can only mean that players improve, including Rafa, and will result in more exciting tennis next year.
You sound so mature, such a healthy mentality.

So how is the gloating going around here? :)
I know I'm late to the party but I wanted to pop up to say congrats to Fed, he played really well and congrats to Rafa as well for making his first WTF final (I'm pretty sure it won't be his last!) and taking his first set from Fed in that event (and gaining tons of points).
Well done to both.
And it's as simple as that.

Great post, veroniquem.

Thanks Truth, I always enjoy reading your posts too. It is important for all of us to know, that no matter who we cheer for, we are ALL FANS OF THE SAME SPORT. And in a world where our sport is no where in the same league as other sports, it is important that we have as much interest, and excitement that allows our sport to flourish, and grow.

Like them or not, Federer and Nadal are actually two halves that have come together. There is a saying that opposites attract, and despite being intense rivals, they are done so much for this sport that we should be thankful to both of them. There unique contrasting styles, allow a much wider audience to enoy the tennis, to be able to relate to the players.

The will to win, and the skill is there for all to see. And what is amazing is that they both went completely different ways about doing it. Federer in the classical way, and Nadal in the almost new revoluntary way. Both appealing to the masses, which is only good for OUR sport.

Both have dominated, and both have challenged each other's dominance. This is truly special that have created such magic for such a sustained period of time. Since Feb - 04 Fedal as been at the top, and I do think it will be there for at least two more years. While one player winning is not realy healthy for the sport, whether that be Roger or Rafa, two titans beating each other is good. It adds the tension, the anticpation, and the excitement to see how far the level will go in the next event. And not only for these two legends of the game, but for others who are forced to play an such an amazing level to win.

Wonderful post...

and what's becomig painfully obvious is that this isn't going to last forever. So instead of dissing each player it's a better idea to enjoy the dizzying heights that two men are taking the sport to. While I do feel the other players are talented, mentally they are lacking in the face of such stellar opposition.

Over the years I have decided to view both of them as two distinct players, nothing more. I simply have a preference for one, but appreciate the kind of tennis that explodes whenever they are destined to meet on court.

As a tennis fan, this is a great time, and I've decided to enjoy it to the fullest.
