Serious congrats to Roger! He was amazing!

But big final congrats to Rafa, too, for reaching the finals of the WTF and giving us three sets - and for an amazing, amazing year!!

Hey, I'm pretty happy, as a Nadal fan - last year, at this time, he played 3 matches and couldn't win a set. A year later he was 1 set away from winning the WTF.

That's improvement :)

Can't wait for 2011 season

vamos!

OH YEAH! Amazing stuff to close it out from Fed!! :)

Nadal has nothing to be ashamed of. He's come so far on this surface, beating the guys he used to lose to on this surface (Murray, etc.)...and making Fed go to 3 sets. It was anybody's match there after that 2nd set. Rafa has many more years to shine and Federer doesn't have that luxury anymore. In the end: Fedal wins, tennis wins, and we fans win. :)

Congrats to Federer and his fans. I missed the whole match!

It's weird, my body is set to tennis match time, and no matter how late I go to bed I wake up in time to see the match in its entirety. Well, I woke up in time, but never guessed it was on ESPN.

Anyway good end to a great year.

Glad for both of them.

True. Not to say Fed might not retake #1 next year, but anyone gotta admit 3 Sets on this surface indoors favors Roger.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done OLD MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Rafa fans, dont feel too bad, your guy had one of the best years ever and he improved leaps and bound compared to last year here at the WTF!

And if anybody starts putting down Rafa's awesome and well deserved US Open, they need to be shot....

Hell of a tourney for Rog. 29 y/o with kids and still at or near the top of the game - amazing player. A great inspiration for us weekend warrior guys with kids

Great match, again, was rooting for Rafa, but Fed played a great match today, and deserves it.
NOW, if the *******/Raftard element would just disappear completely, better for all.
2 Great players, no need to denigrate them, give each some credit. Appreciate great tennis for it's own sake. IMHO

Federer's had the last laugh on Nadal this year, but 2010 is definitely Nadal's year overall. It was a disappointing loss for Nadal today, but on the plus side, he has done better at this year's WTF than he ever has before.

The 2011 Australian Open is a very important tournament for Nadal. If he wins that, he seals his place in history in a very big way by becoming the first player since Rod Laver to hold all 4 majors at the same time.

Big win for Federer. Hopefully this will give him confidence going into 2011, especially if he should meet Nadal in a Grand Slam. This is still probably the best rivalry in tennis right now.

Also, as for all the Nadal fans, I bet they mad.

Good match from both guys and as usual who wins the first set, wins the encounter.

What made the difference in the end was that Fed is a better indoor player and his mixing up of shots, not to mention his aggressive play on the few BP's he had.

Nadal's problem was that he started very slowly and already lost the first set before he knew what happened. Fed was just too good today, he came out way more motivated that Nadal IMO(sorta like how Nadal came out in Madrid 2010), his serve was simply sick today and his bh, with this lower bounce that Goodall was talking about, was immense, both rallying and on return.

Deserved win for Roger, congrats to him and his fans. Rafa had a very good WTF, didn't expect him to get this far.

Well, for me Rafa was not nearly at his best. Then again, I don't really remember a season's end indoors when he WAS at his best.

His first serve didn't have as much sting on it. In fact, he won more second serve points than first serve points. That suggests that the rotator cuff injury is legit.

I think Federer didn't really allow Nadal to get into the kind of rhythm he enjoys, which probably contributed to the higher UE count.

Nadal played pretty crappy in the 3rd, worlds apart from his 2nd set.

here is a conclusion that anyone with an ounce of sense should be able to make :

nadal is scared of federer's forehand and his reliance on hitting to federer's backhand is his undoing. it is simply too obvious where nadal is going to hit the ball against federer; yes he does mix is up occasionally, but not nearly enough. at the end of the day, this was a straight forward win for federer, brought about not only by his brilliance but also by nadal's inability to vary his game.

Great post.

It's nice to see Federer go out on a high note after all the negative press this year. There's plenty of time for Rafa to shine.

Thank goodness they both play tennis.
