I have heard Indian Wells being called that. However, I don't know why. It isn't more prestigious than all of the other Masters 1000's. It's funny, because that term - the 5th Slam - is what they used to call Miami in the late 80's. It however, had reason for it - with 5 set matches etc. The WTF is clearly above all Masters 1000's (including Indian Wells) given it prestige, history and the number of points allocated (1500 or 1300 points - depending on whether it was an unbeaten tournament or 1 round robin loss).

It's also worth noting that no-one in the 43 year history of the tournament has won it losing more than 1 round robin match.
