Answer: WTA has happened to this tournament! :)

I don't see Garcia 'wiping the court' with Kvitova. She might well win, I hope she does, but I think it'll be competitive.

It would be great if Garcia could breakthrough and win this tournament. A tough ask, but it would be good to have more players with the belief they can win.

I don't think Garcia can beat Kvitova.

Maybe it is the fact that after 3 games, Garcia has only won 1 point.

I don't think so either. I am not sure what Marius Hancu is talking about by saying Garcia will wipe Kvitova off the court.

If Kvitova is ON, nobody except for Serena can beat her.

For Garcia to win, Kvitova will have to start missing, which she often does.

Kvitova is doing pretty good, thank you very much. I don't mind that.

What I am upset with is not seeing the ball. That background color is strange ...

This is another matchup issue, imo. Garcia doesn't lack game. Her style is handicapping her against this opponent.

Secondly, as matchups go, the player to beat Kvitova is Bartoli. Bartoli could even beat the 2011 Kvitova on grass at Eastbourne, which is far faster than Wimbledon.

But if 'Tova plays 'Pova, this is a pigeon (mentality) issue, she has lost again and again since 2012 AO.

When Bartoli used to play Kvitova, her short swings and early ball on the return of serve used to send Kvitova on the back foot consistently. This is something Garcia with her longish strokes can't do even though she's returning nearly on top of the net. :P

For Garcia to win, Kvitova will have to start missing, which she often does.

For Garcia to win, Kvitova will have to start having her asthma in the Wuhan smog. :P maybe not today.

Kvitova didn't crack -- which I expected her to. Great use of the body serve.
Garcia's BH failed her -- not enough patience, not enough knee flex today.

Cornet - Bouchard 1 - 1 career, both tight matches

Bouchard ___snatches___ a BH, and is broken
Some people around here must be blind not to see those kind of errors
1-0 Cornet
but Cornet has a FH error and is broken too:-)

Good performance by Bouchard to win on a day when the snatching was less pronounced on the FH, but plenty obvious on the BH, where she generated errors at critical moments.

It's great to get to the SFs in a tourney where the expectations for her were not too good. In that, she's recovered faster than Halep from the post-Wimbledon lull.

Good result for Cornet too --- her combustion is too quick though.

semis
Caro v. Bouchard
Kvitova v. Svitolina

the first meeting between Caro/Genie, it will be an interesting match, I predict Caro will win. Kviotva should be able to avenge her loss at Cincy.

At the players' party in Wuhan

The same approach to byes was used in Madrid, when it was played right after the event in Rome (I think it was 2009), so there's nothing new about it. Guess it has to do with Sunday start and high status of the Wuhan tourney.

Yes, Genie's all over her. Needs focus now.
It is Genie's time. Caroline had her chance and blew it over a boy. That would have never happened in my youth because young women weren't allowed to travel without a chaperone. It was the only proper way to travel.

Not sure if you're being satirical.

Anyway, great result

WTA - Wuhan Tennis Open September 26. SF
Eugenie Bouchard 6 6
Caroline Wozniacki 2 3

allowing herself a chance of redeeming herself against Kvitova.

Would you want your picture taken with the junior varsity if you were a varsity player? Serena and Maria absent, too.

I'm assuming the picture was taken to support the tournament/sponsors and WTA prior to beginning match play. If so, then given how BJK et al fought for women's tennis you would think it was their professional duty to show? The no.1 player, the most marketable & the 'next big thing' that's 3 noticeable absentees.

also the last year, the last 4 players in Japan playing the semis received the bye at Beijing

Why unfortunately? What don't you like about Kvitova?

Nothing at all. I like them both. Incidentally, I like Kvitova even more these days since she has completely dropped her awful shriek and forgotten her thing about outdoors hardcourts and asthma, and just plays. (she discovers she's only allergic to North America outdoors, but not to China - of it's pure air and unpolluted environment) It is simply that Bouchard's style, like Garcia's, I am afraid, will never be a good match up with Kvitova's. So unfortunately, I don't think the final will be a good match, likely a routine pounding. Just as the first meeting just over between Bouchard and Wozniacki ended predictably with a beat down has set the pattern for many future matches those two also. These players of generations Suck and Super (maybe), will be seeing a lot of each other in years to come.

Kvitova>>Bouchard/Garcia>>Wozniacki. Doormats matchups

Kvitova overwhelmed Bouchard 6-3, 6-0 in 55 minutes to win her second Wimbledon trophy in July in what was the most lopsided women's final in 22 years.

This time, the young Canadian says she'll be ready.

''I hope tomorrow I can kind of do my thing more on the court and not get, I don't know, maybe pushed around so much,'' she said. ''I need my revenge. I'm going to try really hard to get that.''

WTA site:
As mentioned above, the winner of the final won't just lift the Premier-level title - which would, incidentally, be the biggest title of Bouchard's career - but they will become the fourth player to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore, after Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep.

Oh it's an age thing. I hadn't realized. It's a bit weird anyway. Why make the age distinction, there are many other distinctions that could be established.

How can it be age if Bouchard is missing? I genuinely don't understand her distinction. That those missing the photo-call are better players?

I don't think she's talking about age, but status. In the USA, high school and college have two teams for the popular sports: varsity which gets all the attention (best players, who are usually but not always older), and junior varsity (players who are younger or just playing for fun).

So Eugenie wasn't at the party? Is she trying hard to cement the idea that she doesn't have any friends on tour?

Sorry guys for being late on updating you on such a critical issue for some of you:-)). Genie WAS at the party, but does not appear in the main group picture.

Legend: WTA Rising Star Eugenie Bouchard explored some of the musical instruments on hand at the party.

The whole party's here:

Petra Kvitova has a chance to defeat Eugenie Bouchard again like in the Wimbledon final this year. Good luck to her.
