Who is going to take the 2014 WTA Wuhan Premier?

She played convincingly against Caro last night. And in the after match interview, Genie has nothing but praising words to say about the fans and the organizer, no surprise since she was winning and she is in the final.

It's funny in another thread, some people make it sound like the whole Asia tournaments, and Wuhan in particular, are a big headache for all players. They presented their case in the angle from one person or two but somehow managed to make it sound like everyone is complaining, is that the truth? Well, most likely not. I don't think Genie, Petra, Garcia, Svitolina or even Caro or Ana will complain. Hey but those players are not American, their thoughts are not exactly the interest of the (American) reporters. Then again, there is only one American in Top 10 and she will be the lone one in YEC, the reporters seem to forget that too.

Sorry guys for being late on updating you on such a critical issue for some of you:-)). Genie WAS at the party, but does not appear in the main group picture.

if Genie can play like she did last night against Caro, she certainly can give Petra a run for her money or even might be able to win it.
Should be an interesting final. I don't think the scoreline will be as bad as at Wimbledon, but I would expect Kvitova to win...

Nothing at all. I like them both. Incidentally, I like Kvitova even more these days since she has completely dropped her awful shriek and forgotten her thing about outdoors hardcourts and asthma, and just plays. (she discovers she's only allergic to North America outdoors, but not to China - of it's pure air and unpolluted environment) It is simply that Bouchard's style, like Garcia's, I am afraid, will never be a good match up with Kvitova's. So unfortunately, I don't think the final will be a good match, likely a routine pounding. Just as the first meeting just over between Bouchard and Wozniacki ended predictably with a beat down has set the pattern for many future matches those two also. These players of generations Suck and Super (maybe), will be seeing a lot of each other in years to come.

Kvitova>>Bouchard/Garcia>>Wozniacki. Doormats matchups

I like both Kvitova and Bouchard too. We will have to see if Bouchard can do better vs Kvitova this time? I think Kvitova will probably win as well.

Why should he have to explain himself? Doesn't mean he dislikes Kvitova just because he wants Bouchard to win.

Who asked you?

I asked 70後 a simple question as to why he or she said "unfortunately" Kvitova would win as I was curious and he or she gave me a rational and reasonable response. You should try it sometime. :???:

I wouldn't have needed to ask the question in the first place if you hadn't made out that 70 shouldn't have written "unfortunately". Why so touchy?

I did not imply for one minute that 70 should not have written "unfortunately." I was only curious why he/she said "unfortunately" and he/she answered me. This has nothing to do with you so please go away and stop bothering me. Thanks. ;)

Who's bothering you? You're the one that keeps responding to all my posts!

Hingis and Pennetta win the Doubles Title.
Tight match (12-10 super tiebreak) in which I like all 4 players.
Very happy for Hingis. Great to have her back.

To think, some were so quick to write off Bouchard as some flash in the pan.

Kvitova/Bouchard may be this generation's Serena/Maria.

This is by far Eugenie's best tournament since her dreadful Wimbledon final.

Wuhan is reminiscent of Wimbledon when the top players were all taken out and Kvitova and Bouchard were left standing in the finals.

The jury is still out on Eugenie. 2015 will tell her tale.

huh? What's all this? I got caught in some TT flirting cross fire? Please don't involve me.

Anyway, 6-3 5-2, Kvitova up double break and serving for the match.

Went better for Bouchard than I thought. It isn't Kvitova's goatness, it is Bouchard shot that is just perfect for her wheel house. And Bouchard lacks the really powerful early return that is needed to beat Kvitova.

btw, I really have no preference either way between PK and EB. I just wanted a competitive match.

Wow they should have totally given the ace to kitty on the challenge

Edit: plenty more where that came from anyway

......but not enough

GOATvitova wasn't playing today, but it didn't matter. Bouchard's flaws were exposed once again like a drunk suntanner at a nude beach.

The time taken to start the awards is ridiculous
It reminds me of our state beauty pageant when Betty and Elizabeth came down with a viral illness, had to withdraw and Emily won. Emily was so excited to win but we all knew it should have been Betty or Elizabeth.

She should be fine as long as she avoids Kvitova like the plague. Kvitova is a terrible match-up for her.

^^Petra is good enough to be Elizabeth. If she was more consistant, she could even be Betty once in a while.

But it's Emily that actually won. And no one can take that away from her. Well done Emily. I thought she was the prettiest any way and much kinder by nature, no disrespect to Betty, Elizabeth and their triplet Liz (not the most imaginative of parents). A worthy winner. :)

The loss shows the media need to dial down the hype in Canada. Bouchard is good BUT whom ever is coaching her needs to watch the tape of this match. It was more competitive than the Wimbledon final BUT again Eugenie's flaws were exposed.

Why is this matchup so bad for Bouchard. What does Kvitova do to Bouchard that makes her look so crappy. Is it just that Jeanie Bouchard doesnt handle pace very well?

She tried to stand on the baseline, it seemed to me, and refuse to move back. That's not going to cut it against a powerful hitter like Kvitova or Williams.

It's all a work in progress though for Bouchard, and it was at least closer than the Wimbledon final.

Please watch the You Tube highlights of the match! It is obvious after watching the match Bouchard has a hard time returning Petra's lefty serve! I bet Eugenie did NOT practice with a left handed player practicing trying to return her serve. If you watch the You Tube highlights Eugenie CANNOT overpower Petra she is bigger, stronger, and MORE powerful! Petra is just playing big babe tennis and since she is top 10 has the consistency on her groundstrokes. Eugenie needs to accept if she wants to beat Petra she must ADD something new to her game. Eugenie did not change the pace, hit drop shots, angles ect. Eugenie is a talented player BUT I think in Canada we need to be honest. Eugenie has soared up the rankings but next year we will see if she can WIN some big titles and stay top 10.

Exactly. Eugenie is letting Petra play her game and it isn't working. Eugenie cannot overpower Petra. Eugenie serve is weak especially the second serve very attachable. Yet Eugenie has a hard time returning Petra's lefty serve.

Looks like Emily has Betty in her half of the draw in Beijing. I'm sure this thrills Elizabeth.

Yes but Betty is always prepared for Emily. Betty>Emily. Elizabeth will have to count on Helga, Frida, Cindy.... Wait. Who are we talking about? What are we talking about? :)

Correct. Betty is always prepared for Emily. Elizabeth will only have to worry about Helga, but Helga hasn't been performing well lately. Elizabeth hopes Betty will stumble before the finals and win the title in the same way Emily did in Wuhan.
