Were Yamaha rackets more popular in Japan / Asia in the 80/90s? I ask because I kinda recall that these rackets and others like the Hi-Flex series did exist in the UK, but they would be difficult to find and usually covered in dust they were so infrequently bought. I have a suspicion they were expensive for retailers (less margin) so probably couldn't compete with Wilson, Dunlop etc. Not to mention the low marketing profile other than Sabatini. I wonder if there were any Japanese Pros that used Yamaha throughout their careers.

I guess Yamaha racquets were more common in Asia. I got these from a Japanese surplus online store here in the Philippines. I don't remember seeing any Yamaha racquets growing up in Australia. Plus, these frames were manufactured in Singapore, so there's that...

I used the YFG50 for a year around the 1979 timeframe. Still have a couple that are fun to take out once in while. The only other pro I can think of who used a Yamaha was Bob Lutz. A great player especially in doubles with Stan Smith, but not the most high profile name.

About 8-10 years later Yamaha had Ronald Agenor and Yannick Noah using their frames. Some Secret 04 rackets even had Noah’s signature printed on them.
