Yamaha ex110

Those are from the 90s. The only one I’ve ever seen in the wild was the Gabriella Sabatini model I found at a thrift store years ago. It makes sense that it would be a POG alternative since she had previously used the POG.

I just don’t see it as a modern alternative. POGs are still produced. I’d suggest a Microgel Radical OS or Head Gravity S as two much easier to find alternatives. I’d also recommend the Wilson Blade 104 if you want a tighter string pattern.

The Yamaha is looking for a needle in a haystack compared to all of the others I mentioned.

Oh. Don’t let the weight specs bother you regarding the frames I listed unless you want to swing tree trunks. In which case, add your own weight. I think you may be pleasantly surprised by these lighter, more maneuverable offerings.

Michael, TT poster Goldenyama was familiar with the line, owned a few, and was living in Japan a few years ago when these (fascinating) frames came up for discussion. I'm not sure he's still around, though. As you've probably seen, there are a few of them on the auction site that (you can tell by the photography) were previously being sold in-country on the Rakuten.

I'd especially love to own an EX-110G or two. That's the lowest-powered and (If my understanding is correct) thinnest-beamed of the three Gabby post-Prince Yamahas, the white one with black and silver stripes reminiscent of the Head Microgels. The earlier white EX-110 and yellow EX-110 Tour do look a little cooler to me than the 110G.

Foe those concerned with weight, there was a Japan-only FX series that was lighter. Probably some others, too.

Managed to grab a couple. Looking forward to their arrival. Any stringing recommendations?

Hello Michael,

I love this frame! I used to play with it in my glory days of tennis. I have 3 that I kept as my 'sample specs' to match new frames. What string do you plan on using? What's your style of play?
I used to string it with soft multi mains (Gosen Tecgut pro) and syn gut cross at 64 / 62lbs. I tried it with a full poly at 50lbs - very low powered set up IMO. This racquet has great control and feel and I think a hybrid or gut set up works best.
BTW my sticks were slightly modified with lead, 346g w/ 31.25cm bal.
