Year End No 1 will be the best player in 2021 alone...

So, it's possible that No 1 player, and Year End No 1 champion are two different players...

What do you think? Without too much thinking it's right thing to do...

"While the 2021 Year-End FedEx ATP Rankings will continue to potentially include some results from 2020 in a player’s rankings breakdown under the 24-month rankings system due to COVID-19, the 2021 Year-End No. 1 will be based off 2021 results alone (i.e., the FedEx ATP Race To Turin) and will continue until the end of the Nitto ATP Finals. This will ensure that the No. 1 accolade accurately reflects the world’s best performer of the 2021 calendar season"

Can someone clear to me, because I don't understand what this means:
"and will continue until the end of the Nitto ATP Finals"
Will YE no 1 be known before or after WTF?
The race normally stops before the ATP Finals begins, as at the conclusion of the Finals, the rankings normally are exactly the same as the race. YE#1 won't necessarily be known before the ATP Finals, but could be. This time, however, the race will continue past to the end of the ATP Finals and will be used as the measuring stick for YE#1.

Not the cleanest solution, but no solution would be perfectly clean. Things will be back to normal soon enough.

If I have this correct:
Normally, after the ATP Finals is completed, only the points for that particular calendar year -- i.e., 1985, 2003, 2019 -- will have been counted. But, of course, YE#1 can be won or lost at the ATP Finals, itself. Example: If Novak beat Andy M in the 2016 ATP Finals, he would have garnered YE#1. So, the weekly points and the race points always align after the ATP Finals.

This year, while the rules will have been altered along the way, YE#1 will still be determined only off of points actually earned in 2021, and of course, YE#1 can still be won or lost at the ATP Finals.

As somebody already said, there is no perfect system in this situation but it probably is one of the better ones. I mean, it doesn't make too much sense to count points from 2020 and 2019 to determine the best player of 2021.

I think ivanisevic said that the reduced schedule means 2 fewer tournaments in a year so if he performs well, he is still the favourite imo.
We'll see I guess. He's 500 points behind Tsitsipas and won't play Madrid or Canada most likely so he's gonna need to perform really well in the tournaments he intends to play.

To be fair 500 points isn't really that much, especially this early in the year. If he wins at least a slam and and masters title, which is expected of him, he will certainly be in contention.
