year-end NTRP rating question

I've heard our year-end ratings come out right around Thanksgiving. Does anyone know if matches played a week or a few days before that date are factored in, or do they instead count towards the following year?

I would think USTA may start work on their final calculations for year-end ratings after Nationals, and they may or may not allow the computer to change a year-end rating due to some late November matches that are played very close to their deadline.

backttennis, what kind of matches are you talking about? USTA league matches? USTA tournaments? Something else?

Not referring to tournaments - just regular USTA league matches on a winter team which starts in October and ends in the spring.

We don't have leagues spanning a calendar year here in CO, all our USTA leagues are spring-summer-early fall. My (uneducated) guess is that none of the matches in a year-spanning league would count for NTRP calculations this year.

Our fall league matches go from Sept to late Jan. Fall matches do count toward year end ratings. There are people who get ESR ratings in August and then get different year end ratings. If the fall league didn't count, the ratings wouldn't change at all for anybody. There is a cutoff date, but I am not sure if the exact date is published. It is definitely after Nationals and probabaly some time in November. It really shouldn't matter though- unless you are trying to manipulate your year end rating.

I am sure that when you look on Tennis link they identify this league as a 2013 league and as such would not count towards 2012 year end ratings

Sounds reasonable - but the 2013 league does have some 2012 play in there also. Goober also brings up a good point, which is that many early start ratings are adjusted at year end. Whether this adjustment is only done by USTA to take into account benchmarking, nationals, etc. or whether it also includes dynamic rating changes from matches played after early start ratings, but before year end ratings, is the question.

I did look on USTA's national site and found some Q & A regarding this which said that whether early start league results count towards the same year's computer ratings is determined by the section league coordinator. Maybe no one really knows when the exact cutoff is except USTA.

Got an answer

I got an email back from a USTA section league coordinator which said that our October match results in the 2013 league do adjust our end-of-year computer ratings for 2012, but November play counts only towards 2013.

I would think that since they publish the year end ratings around Thanksgiving, they probably start to finalize these in early November.
