Yesterday I went to an interview for a store manager position at Mc Donald.

Interviewer:"What experience do you have as a store manager?"
Me:"None whatsoever."
Interviewer:"What do you study in college?"
Me:"Law."
Interviewer:"Impressive but what does that have to do with managing a store?"
Me:"Well, I am very good with people. I was voted as the student body president 4 years in a row."
Interviewer:"I am impressed but do you know how to run a McDonald store?"
Me:"Hmm, not really."
Interviewer:"What would you do if the store you are running is losing money 3 years in a row?"
Me:"Sell more burgers?"
Interviewer:"Ok, we will call you back."

Do you think I got the job?

Uhhh, because the joke isn't funny??? (Actually, "sell more burgers" was the wrong answer. The profit margin on the burgers is relatively low; burgers are actually a means to sell the drinks and fries, for which the profit margins are enormous.)

Ok, it isn't a joke. It is just my cheap sarcastic attempt at ridiculing a thing called democracy.

Oh, I get it now.

How about this version of an interview.

Q: I see from your resumes that you have manage other fast food restaurants in the past.

R: Yes, I have.

Q: I also see that all of these restaurants have lost money and performed worse under your management.

R: It wasn't my fault. I told them to make money but they failed to listen to me. I'm not responsible for their failures.

Q: You why should we give you this position.

R: Well, didn't my dad talk with your boss?

lol is this for real

Sorry, but I think you didn't get the joke.

Perhaps the humor was lost in translation

Ketchup, sir?

Oh oh! My turn! Let me to a monarchy!

Interviewer:"What experience do you have as a store manager?"
Me:"None"
Interviewer:"What do you study in college?"
Me:"Nothing"
Interviewer:"Why should I hire you?"
Me:"Well my dad is rich and powerful"
Interviewer: "You got the job!"

Or Totalitarian

Interviewer:"What experience do you have as a store manager?"
Me: STFU and make me manager or I'll kill you

My point is that you need years of RELEVANT experience to be hired as a store manager for McDonald. Being "good with people" won't even get you hired at McDonald.

And yet in democracy, you can get hired as the president with no relevant experience just because you are "good with people".

BTW, what we have now in China is meritocracy. That means the managers of the country are trained with years of RELEVANT experience. Most of them are engineers or economists not lawyers. And they are certainly not related to Mao Tse Tung in anyway.

GR, may I suggest that next time, just come out and say what you want to say, rather than trying to cloak it in some kind of sarcastic imaginary dialogue, 'cause your OP was an epic FAIL!!!

I don't think my Chinese friends would even understand that joke. As for people electing lawyers as politicians; one group (the lawyers) is good at manipulating ignorant people (the ones who elect them). That's what they learn in college, how to manipulate and shape peoples' opinions.

If I were a greedy dope like many of our politicians, I know I could con people with false promises while lining my pockets; but I'm not greedy, not willing to get in the business of slandering other people (ignorant people like that stuff), and not willing to be bought by people who could give me the publicity I would need to get into a powerful position.

Greedy or not, a lawyer will always win an election against an engineer. A lawyer has a Phd on public speaking after all.

I know, which is a damn shame. There are engineers who are leaders in other countries though. Engineers just don't get the respect they should get in the US. Instead all they report is when a bridge fails or when a plane crashes, but none of the successful engineering feats (like clean water) other countries would die for. However some engineering feats are bad (the celebrated ones) and those are the ones that make people lazy (Segway?).

I was peeing in my pants, not sure why everyone got on this guys case. Great stuff there, come to LA you'll be famous

I'll take a lawyer that at least seems to have ethics over a bunch of corrupt economists/engineers that don't care about human rights, freedom, etc. any day. It isn't really a meritocracy anyway either; connections get you far with all the corruption there.

The day will come when China cannot sustain high GDP growth, and that day will be when China's "meritocracy" will crumble.

this reminds me of the time when i went in for a job interview after graduating from college.

the hiring manager asked to see my resume. i told him i did not bring it because my major in college was in a different field, and the resume only summarized what i had learned in this field.

he then asked me a series of questions to test my knowledge about things which would be needed to perform the job. i told him i did not know.

and his last question was "when can you start?"

Another version

haha. i worked for that company and the same hiring manager for ten years before they outsourced the whole operation to malaysia. i believe he hired me because the candidates he had interviewed before made up the experiences and knowledge that they did not have. I got hired because i was first the honest guy that he came across, and he figured i was bright enough to learn how to perform the work that he needed to have done :)

another funny story about me and him relating to tennis was, his boss, the director of QA, was really into tennis and he knew i played tennis so he told me to go play tennis at lunch time with the big boss. before i left, he told me:

"give him a good match, but lose, okay?".

"alrighty, boss."

When I came back, my boss asked how the match went.

"i beat Joe 6-1, 6-2"

"but I told you to give him a good match, and lose !"

"yeah but before we played, your boss had told me to play my best. he said he didn't like people who would put office politics into tennis" :)

Lol! I wonder if he knew that his employee (your boss) was telling his employees (you) to intentionally lose against him. It sounds like he was wise to what was occurring.

Hi guys. Well, I didn't get the job at Mcdonald's but I got another interview at Burger King and I decided to try something else.

Interviewer:"What experience do you have as a store manager?"
Me:"None"
Interviewer:"What makes you think you can manage a store without any relevant experience?"
Me:"I was an actor at the community theatre, I played the leading actor in a lot of community plays. I once played this cyborg in a play and got a 5 min standing ovation. It was unbeli.........
Interviewer:"Ok, ok, we will call you back."

Do you think I got the job?

I'm laughing not because you're funny, but because you're continuing with this.
