Yet another proof that the NextGen is hot garbage

None of the NextGeners have a netgame that is as good as Djokovic of all people.

Meanwhile, during 2008-2016, Djokovic was bang average when it comes to netgame.

It is not surprising that they got mauled by Nole. They are already unable to beat Nole from the baseline in a BO5. They could adopt an all-court strategy - but, their netgame is so crap that they make Djokovic looks great at the net.

Leave aside net game, none of them have a powerful consistent forehand as well. They get outhit by novak off that wing.
The serb has broken their soul because they have so many of the technical issues in their games.

I was horrified to learn just now in another thread that Medvedev admitted he was satisfied to reach his last two grand slam finals and it was implied he didn't try his best and that he would tomorrow.
What a spineless.....! I can't believe how disrespectful that is to the fans who buy tickets, travel to the stadium.
Can you imagine Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, Murray, Wawrinka not trying in a slam final!

That is his excuse for losing. Not trying, my ass. What a pathetic statement from Medvedev..

I definitely think there is a level of satisfaction the next gen gets when they reach a slam semi or final tbh.
Definitely. But to say he wasn't trying enough to win? Blatant disrespect for his opponents who were better and did win.

Did you watch his first Slam final? Did he look to you he wasn't trying? Bull's family were crying in the fifth set ffs.

IF Slams finals or semi finals were enough then Connors and Lendl would be the GOATs now and Sir Andy Moorey would be an ATG.

Next gen is filled with weak pansies, 1 guy was yesterday explaining to us in the press conference on why Novak is GOAT because he has most weeks at 1, most masters, will end with most slams...

My reaction was : " Hey loser .... today you lost and you are busy aggrandizing and glorifying your opponent like a loyal lackey ? .... you should be angry that he has won a match that you should have won and will now win 1 slam which should have been yours ....yet like a submissive you are praising his achievements of his career? "

Terrible, embarrassing generations of tennis players. Should we cry or laugh?

10+ slams in any other era, though!

I am kind of outraged! I must have watched...oooh 120 slam finals and to think that someone was not trying! After watching Edberg, Becker, Sampras, Navratilova, Graf, Seles....I could go on and on. Actually, just thinking about it, I think my man Safin gave a half hearted effort once! Lol.
Still, I am crying. And more tears to come today!
Lol 10 slams in any other era. No slams for Meddy. Ever! The Tennis Gods will not look kindly on this recent confession.

An all court game doesn’t beat Djokovic anyway. See the last ten years of Federer, Roger in BO5 vs Djokovic. If Fed can’t make it work why would any of these kids try it…?

He was happy to get to his first slam final of course, why wouldn't he be satisfied with that, doesn't mean he didn't try his best to win there.

Djokovic was very satisfied with his first slam final. Now tell me Djokovic is also "a spineless".

Yeah, great net game surely would help them against Novak... Just look how Fed did Novak in those Wimbledon finals... Lol...

Except net game don't forget slice... Again, just look how Fed cliced Novak to death in mentioned Wimbledon finals... ;)

And to add, I really enjoy this flooding of forum with butt hurt threads...
Bah just saw you beat me to the same point! “Guyz why isn’t the next gen trying to replicate the strategy that netted Federer zero wins over Djokovic in BO5s?”

I think in the interview he implied he did not try as much as he could. It's talked about in the match preview thread in the results section.
I am not going for the attack Djokovic bait. But have a nice day.

Why picc with Nadal :'D, and I dont understand why people ostracize young guns, when in his first GS final Djokovic choked his 5 set points in first set

Such a judgemental take, so harsh on Medvedeva and for what? His words mean that he wasn't treating his Slam finals as make it or break it, not that he wasn't trying in them. He actually did say he tries his best, but didn't leave his heart out there. It's not inspirational or noble, true, but it doesn't make him a spineless whatever. If fans hope that every player reaching a Slam final is ready to die out there for the victory, including the Big 3, they will be disappointed.

And also, that would be absolutely horrible for the players mental health. Say Andy Murray goes into every AO final thinking he absolutely must win it and then he never does. He would be crushed beyond repair. That's not what sport should be about.

Judgemental, harsh, maybe. That may be just who I am.
For me though, I like my players to leave their heart out there.

Yeah... I can't understand that so many "tennis fans" don't see that even best volley and slice player of modern times couldn't do anything to Novak, even at Wimbledon... And now next generation should work on their volley game to beat him? Are they insane, lool...

Novak is just goat, deal with that fact... He beat Nadal and Federer and he won't others? Really?

The issue with this reasoning is that outside of 9 months in 2011, Djokovic didn't dominate Federer and Nadal while they were still physically in their primes. Even Wawrinka and Murray were able to beat him in the middle of his prime. Federer's physical prime ended after 2012 with his 2013 injuries, Nadal's after 2013 and even Murray after 2013 due to his back surgery. 5 and 7 years after their physical primes ended respectively, Nadal and Federer were still by far the toughest competition for Djokovic in recent years at Wimbledon 2018/19 and RG20.

Three generations of young guys don't even come close. Stef went up two sets at RG and collapsed so thoroughly that the outcome was NID once the 3rd set started. Z immediately crumbled after winning each of his sets at the USO. Remember, Djokovic at 34 is still the youngest elite talent and multi slam winner on tour. While Federer, Nadal, Murray all had physical issues start creeping in around 27-28, consistent with historical norms, Djokovic has conversely put up 13/20 slams and counting from that age onwards. For a guy that broke through at an elite level at age 19, that's pretty unusual. The only younger slam winners than Djokovic are:

1) Del Potro, who won his slam 13 years ago, only a year after Djokovic won his first. Their slam count was 1-1 for more than another full calendar year after this win and as we know injuries totally derailed Delpo's career within months of his breakthrough.
2) Cilic, 8 years ago, who was not far removed from a doping ban
3) Thiem, in a fluke win where Djokovic was DQ'd, a bunch of players didn't show up, and Z pulled off a Gasquet-tier choke in the final.

Trying to sugarcoat the younger generations by saying that they're just playing the GOAT wildly obfuscates the reality of the situation.

The best volley and slice player was 37 and 6 years older than Djokovic.....If Djokovic was 37 and Fed was 31, it would've been a straight set win

This is totally illogical and just a weird irrational attempt to complain about something. Pretending that because someone is satisfied with the amazing achievement of getting to a grand slam final (which they should be) means they didn’t even try to do even better is just bizarre behaviour.

You’re the sort of person that would call an Olympic silver medalist spineless if they said they were satisfied with winning a medal. Try achieving something in life before you try to criticise people who have achieved incredible things by manipulating their perfectly reasonable words.

And even single one of them are choking mental midgets. I was watching again the first set of the Djoker-Shapovalov Wimbledon match. Denis outplayed Novak completely but utterly choked when it came to winning the set, botching a volley that a club player could make blindfolded.

By far the weakest up-and-coming generation in the OE. No other generation is even close to this mediocre level.

Federer had one real go at Djokovic in the last five years and got to MPs so. Of course the softies can't muster even the level of a 37yo Federer.

Well isn't it true. Fed had broken almost all the records by the time he was 30...There will be an obvious dip in motivation and when you have goat contenders that are 6 years younger, it's not difficult to imagine that you will start losing more often.

Now if he was dealing with the likes of Dimitrov Raonic Nishikori etc. instead, he would still be winning slams

The idea that the best players in the world get to the final of a slam and have the potential opportunity to fulfil their dream and that they don’t even bother to try is really quite bizarre ‍♂

The real explanations are different. There’s this weird idea that will power is all that matters. The fact is you have to be really close in level of play to the opponent before the mental part can help you win.

Medvedev to destroy Djoko’s dreams in three. Fast court + flat groundies = carnage!
Looks as if it's happening at the moment! Djokovic out of sorts and doesn't look "in it" at all! Medvedev is serving well and that hurts Nole; esp. losing break opportunity down 0-40! I'd give Novak more of a chance down 0-2 in sets vs anyone but Medvedev! You have to get on top of him early and keep a foot on his neck!
