All we are saying is, “Give peace a chance.” were the lyrics to the chorus of John & Yoko’s antiwar anthem recorded in Room 1742 of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal on June 1, 1969. I’m sorry I let that fact pass by two months ago without noting its 50th anniversary.

Anniversaries come in all types, joyous, mournful, momentous, horrific. Befitting the last category is this anniversary: On August 6, 1945, the American bomber Enola Gay dropped a five-ton bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

Noting its 50th anniversary is worth doing for many rock festivals and events this year, culminating with Altamont, where Hunter S. Thompson's mistake of introducing the Hells Angels to the hippies turned ugly in the tule fog of a cold, bleak December night.

Pictures of You

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
All I can feel

Remembering you
Standing quiet in the rain

As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering you
Running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and wider than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
To let it all go

Remembering you
Fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
You were stone white
So delicate
Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
Remembering you
How you used to be
Slow drowned
You were angels
So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
Open my eyes
But I never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
I wouldn't be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Pink and green reminds me of Sir Nigel Powers' quip to Austin:

Are you telling a bunch pork-pies and a bag of trout? Because if you are feeling quigly, why not just have a J. Arthur?

Arthur Treacher gave his name to a fast food chain here in the U.S. that did not thrive (only 7 locations still open) vs competitors like Long John Silver’s and Captain D’s. After dining at the latter once I wondered if the “D” stood for dysentery.

Belly dancing women around the table in harem pants and skimpy tops would make @Mike Bulgakov's Thai meal go down even smoother!
Interestingly, I have only seen belly dancers in person at a Persian restaurant in Beijing. It was a Sunday afternoon, and at the table next to my table (we were there for the food) there was a table with about seven guys from the Russian Embassy smoking from a hookah.

"Pride" is a U2 song. The official video had shots of the Dublin docks. An Irishman told me in Dublin stories of junkies and criminals that lurked around the Dublin docks at night, and told me that I couldn't walk to the end of the docks and back at night and come back alive.

Alive was the story of the Uruguayan rugby team plane crash survivors in the Andes. Would the outcome have been different if Sabooshs had been one of the survivors???

Continents drifted apart over long periods of time as geologists thought in the earlier days of Earth Science. Today, the drift is now called a shift, thus continental drift is now plate tectonics shift.

The San Diegan Society for Horses and Donuts convened this morning in Del Mar, but there was no sign of the San Diego Bageler. How will I meet him if he doesn't show up for free donuts? Maybe the Bageler doesn't like donuts. I love horsies, but don't like donuts.

Donuts Day

When: @ 8 - 10 AM
Where: Seaside Cabana

Enjoy FREE coffee, orange juice, and delicious donuts from 8 - 10 AM in the Seaside Cabana, west of the Grandstand.
Enjoy Q&A sessions led by track announcer Trevor Denman with famous jockeys and trainers, all while watching the horses during their morning workouts.
