Yonex 100 Questions

Currently have EZ98 & VC98 in the bag. Both leaded up to 324 sw. Like them both, EZ seems like direct control with some added power and spin while VC seems like big power and spin but needs big targets.
My questions pertain to their 100" counterparts: which of EZ100 or VC100 is more arm (esp wrist) comfortable and which of the two is better for 1hbh?
Just these 2 rackets please

I played quite some time with the EZ100 and briefly with VC100. EZ is definitely stiffer than VC and also better for a OHBH which I do play like you. So...it kinda sucks now for you to decide :-D

98's will usually always be better for 1HBH. My 1HBH instantly got a bit better when I dropped down to a 98 with the Extreme Pro. Since you are going up in size neither 100 will likely feel better on the backhand side than the 98 versions but the difference between them will be highly personal that you would have to find out yourself.

I use the Ezone 100 and also played for 1 month with the Vcore 100 before I sold it.

I would say that for my 1HBH, the Vcore 100 was slightly easier to swing. The beam is slightly narrower, not a lot on the Vcore 100 (Beam width at widest point: Ezone 100: 26,5mm / Vcore 100: 25,3mm).

However, for my game, I really disliked the very open string pattern in the Vcore 100 as it launches the ball higher than the Ezone 100 does. For my game, I love the Ezone 100 but would like it even more if it was just slightly easier to swing faster on the 1HBH.

Sure; the 98 racquets such as Ezone 98, Pure Aero 98 etc, will be easier to swing faster, especially on the 1HBH, but they play very different to the 100 versions. Less “easy” power and more demanding, requiring more from the player. For some that is a good thing, for others not so good. In tennis one needs to play with the equipment that matches the players level.

Vcore 100 is also slightly more comfortable. Not a big difference but the Ezone 100 is a bit stiffer.

For me, the biggest difference is the launch angle. The Vcore 100 need a good amount of topspin to keep the ball in. The Ezone 100 while being more powerful, has a a very controlled launch angle due to the tighter string pattern. I would say the Ezone 100 is perhaps the most “controllable” tweener racquet out there.

Thanks! I should have specified that the VC98 gives me slight wrist pain while the EZ98 is just so solid and comfortable feeling. Think I'll have a try with the EZ100; maybe string 4-5 lbs tighter than the EZ98?

It depends, to me the EZ100 is a stiff frame with 67RA so in combination with a stiff poly on high tension is not a good idea. A good rule to test a new frame is to put there the string you know very well on your preferred tension :) and then you can adjust higher/lower according your feeling.

What kind of string and tension you used in your EZ98?

I do not know your level of tennis, but the Ezone 98 and 100 (or Vcore 98 & 100) do play very differently. For higher level players for sure the 98 version will be better, it is more HL and combined with a smaller head and thinner beam, should make it easier to swing.

That might make it easier on the wrist. But then again, for me it probably would not as I need the extra “easy” power that the 100 version gives me. With the 98 I would simply have to hit that much harder to make it work which might not feel good in my wrist.

Make sure you have the same strings at same tension so you can compare.

Forgot to say that personally I would not play the 100 version with a full bed of poly strings. That is me though, having had tennis elbow three times, I only use multifilament these days. All these 100 size power frames , Ezone 100, Pure Drive etc are really stiff frames.

While Ezone 100 is stiffer than Ezone 98, I only notice the stiffness when shanking close to the tip or generally framing the ball. And I think everybody strings their 98s too high. If you want more easy depth and forgiveness and comfort, just lower your tension. Strung at 18kg the 98 has still more control than the 100 strung at 23kg, while having the same easy depth and better comfort and feel.

I use PT Rev 17 in both frames. I honestly think the flex in the shaft of the VC98 is what hurts my wrist. I know that's counterintuitive but the "solidness" of the EZ98 just works better for my arm. But, of course, I play (serve especially) better with VC98 lol. I guess a better question would have been does EZ100 feel similar to EZ98 with a bit more pop? I'm an aging 4.0 btw. Also I have definitely narrowed the pain to the VC98, one week on and off with each racket.
