Yonex EZone 100 Tour - Japan only version

I was just in Japan, and was trying ito get into the new Ezone demo days, but schedules didn't fit. However I did hit with someone who just had a blacked out preproduction demo of the EZ100T, which strangely is a Japan only product. I only hit with it for about an hour. I still use the 04VC98+, but looking to get into the 100 range if possible.
Strung with PolyTour Rev 17 White at around 52lbs, and hit on a carpet indoor court, which lowers the bounce vs hard court.
Off the ground, the new 08EZ10T certainly feels a smidge better than the 7th gen EZ100 (07EZ10) outside the sweet spot. My previous demo of the 07EZ10 was disappointing for me, but I now think it was about string choice. The grip of the PTR17W allowed better control, and the head lightness of the EZ10T allowed allowed a bit more closed face brushing of the ball. It feels like a 320ishSW stick, and far from my usual 345, so it's naturally anemic in comparison. It is still 16x19 and thus launches higher than the EZ98. Stability is also decent off center, and being much lighter, I was finding the bottom of the racquet face more often due to a slightly faster swing timing.
At net, it was very decent with good feel and controllable stability. I had no issues with short low angled volleys, or depth control with spin, something I did off the bat with the 06/07VC100/98+.
On serve, it was nice to hit flatter balls, but too light for me to really test the various spins. Still it allowed for decent pace and spin.
On returns is where I didn't like it, but that's more a me problem with lighter, lower swing weight and general use of plow and timing to hit returns.
Overall it is an interesting iteration, and based on my experiment with the EZ98T+, I'll probably order a 315+ swing weight version via Yonex Custom Fit, probably with +0.25 or 0.5 cm extension and 315cm balance as a base. Just in time for April visit in Japan.

I believe @dr. godmode has said the Ezone 100 Tour should also be coming to Canada, so here's hoping for some more international presence...
I'm surprised. From what I understand, Regna production is now much lower because of the new lines, from what I was told from the Japanese retailer. So I think they would save the 100T for domestic only. Makes no sense to sell the tour in both 100 and 98 in the same market. There is no 98 Tour in Japan.

It is. My buddy wanted me to pick up 4 for him, but the store would only sell 2 per customer. The nice thing about the specialist stores in Japan is that they measure the sticks for you right there, and the Regna are just specimens of how good quality sticks are made. 3 of the 4 were within 1kg/cm2 in swingweight and identical in balance and weight. The 4th was 4kg/cm2 off the other 3, and 1g lighter. I wish I liked the Regna, the CUSTOMFIT program can even do a ½ inch extended version at 310g, which with a leather grip will be at 320ish and 315mm balance like I want it.

Is there a review of the frame online yet ?
How good is your Japanese? Pretty sure they will have reviewed it somewhere on the 'tube. I've not looked but already put in an order for a CUSTOM FIT 100T which sadly won't be ready for another 30 working days!

Where are you shipping too ?

Would love to see review that can be translated by someone or easily translated on you tube , subtitles don’t often convey the message well

I go to Tokyo for work some times. I just have the shop hold it for me until I get there or send it to the office. Yonex CUSTOMFIT is a very nice service. On delivery, the store do a Yonex Precision machine weighing, balance and swing weight read on all sticks you buy, without charging. The CUSTOM FIT program is ¥2000, and includes specced weight and balance, 0.5" extension etc. A ridiculously cheap option for Japan only. I wish Yonex would allow this in the US, but I guess it's impractical. I also ordered a CUSTOM FIT extended Regna 98 for my buddy, so I hope to test that out to see if I like it. I liked the feel of the Regna but not how it played. Needed too much customization to get to where I like it.

31.5mm bal caught my attention. If only the other Yonex Tour models had this balance. I know most people are probably playing their EZ100s stock or with very minimal customization, but I think 310g/31.5 in a racquet like this could be a great spec. Anyone know for sure if this is definitely a Japan only release? Fingers crossed these make their way over to NA.

I have got my hands on the EZONE 100 Tour from Japan and first impressions - it’s an absolute beast!

I just had a 2hr doubles hit and found that I have gelled with it really well. It offers huge power and massive stability is somewhat sluggish especially compared to the standard Ezone 100. Mine came with a Yonex multifilament which I’ll be switching out for a shaped poly - I’m hoping this will give me the control I need to tame the power on offer here. Other initial impressions - balance is somewhat head heavy, but sweet spot is huge and feel on contact is good. Flat serves, returns and volleys are fantastic. Low launch angle similar to the Ezone 98, I had to work to generate spin on ground strokes and kick serves (although a poly would help here) but a lot easier to use than the 98. Very good control and easy depth on ground strikes. Did I mention the stability - this is the stand out feature? On a par with the RF97.

Looking forward to hitting more with this and I could see myself switching but I might also experiment with a standard 100 and add weight. I’ll post pics as soon as I figure out how to use Imgur!

good to hear the positive review.
do you know the unstrung weight and/OR strung swingweight? also what multi and tension?

it looks identical to a EZ100 i believe.
just a weight and balance difference. the only difference you can see is probably this...

Yes the only visible difference is what you’ve shown. Mine was strung with Yonex ATG 850 at 52/50 lbs. - very soft and lively offering very little help with spin.

Weight with Supergrap over grip is 331g, I’ll try to measure balance and swing weight soon.

I snagged one in Japan at Windsor Racket Shop in Shibuya last month. Strung it with the mint colour Poly Tour Rev 125 @ 48lbs, and that extra 10 grams goes a long way in giving it a bit more stability that the 100 in the previous version lacked. The 2022 version had a bit of that 'airiness' quality to the shot, but the Tour has a more assuring 'thud' when striking the ball.

def excited to try this 100 tour! i never used the ezone 100 to be fair.
but i have used the ezone 98 which i wanted just a bit more launch angle, and a bit more stability. the 98 tour was a bit sluggish and gave me arm discomfort.

being a japan only racquet increases the cool factor
like having a jdm car in the US

EZ100 tour plays great. just not sure if my arm discomfort will go away.
I really need to play with it more and with different strings...
it does have a lot higher RA than my vcore 98 tour.

If I'm being honest, I'm a bit perplexed by this 100T racquet. I've always held a view of 100 head size racquets as a starting point or platform frame. They're a good playable frame in stock form but can be easily modified without things getting crazy if the player wants to.

Are there really that many people out there who are looking for a heavier 100?

heavier 100s already exist, the gravity pro is a thing and there are in fact people who like it

I'm aware they exist and perhaps I should have been clearer in my post. The EZone 100 is the quintessential Tweener frame. Easy power, well suited to a wide range of skill levels and swing types. It's also a great platform for players who want to adjust as they develop. So, I guess where I question it is why would they make a heavier, more difficult to modify version of an already popular and successful frame. I guess they've found some market for it since they've already been doing the 98T.

I don't think it's a fair comparison with the Gravity line. Maybe Yonex is trying to get a piece of that market. But the Gravity, despite the 100 head size, is a low-powered, control-oriented, more demanding kind of frame. It's basically a larger version of an old-school player's stick.

problem with gravity pro comparison is that its a closed pattern 18x20.
i always preferred the gravity mp with weight added. i believe barty had a custom grav pro with 16x19 or 16x20.
and as ryushen21 mentioned, gravity is not a great comparison to the ezone line. matches up with the percept line if anything.

this ez100 is more open with 6 center mains, vs the ez98 having 8 center mains. (both 16x19)
adding lead weight is not the same result. I have done this with the ez98 vs ez98tour and the vc98 vs vc98tour...

Glad someone agrees adding lead weight does not replicate the same result

Is the drill pattern of the exone 100 and the 100 tour the same ?

haven't had a lot of time to play and test the ez100 tour as i would like.
2nd stringjob put in ptp 1.25 at 46/44 and thought it felt great.
going to mess around a bit with different string setups.

i got a 2nd one coming. hopefully won't be too different in SW

i got my 2nd 100 tour strung... and glad to see the SW is basically matching
(going from Rexis speed 1.25 to PTP 1.25 increased SW by 7 points)

racquet 1: 329 SW, 7 HL strung with Yonex Poly Tour PRO 1.25
racquet 2: 330 SW, 7 HL strung with Yonex Poly Tour SPIN 1.25
