Whisky is out. Extra 10g punch.

Is this the racquet you were giving clues about? haha

to me sounds like 5mm more being heavier is going to be more headlight balance

I have a feeling the Tour isn’t going to look like that. For some reason I just have a hunch it’s going to be black based or something to differentiate them a little

You are right! Yes. It will be labelled as 'ezone 98 tour' on the side of the throat, just for users to differentiate them with respect to their names, and from ezone 98 where it will be labelled as 'ezone 98', very similar to how pure aero and pure aero tour are labelled :)

I thought you would have an equation handy to translate the extra weight and changed balance point into a calculated unstrung SW
Any one with a sw machine can figure that out by trial and error with ezone 98(a unstrung pc and perfect condition bumper)
I think. 7.5 g on the head and 2.5 grams on the handle? Haha maybe.

Smartass haha I was thinking more differentiate on the tour. As in the men would have the tour version and women would have the 98. I think Kyrgios with a black (or whatever color) tour and Osaka with the blue would be good marketing for the ezone line as a whole.

They will only produce them in black if.... Cute girl and naughty boy tell yonex they like the black, taking reference from kieber. Hahaha.

An assumption i made here is 98T and 98 are of the same flex.
THE TRUTH IS.... I HAVE NO IDEA.
(like RF 97 and Ps 97 non cv)

  • 10 g heavier
  • "softer base composition"
  • "balance being 5mm more" that sounds like more head heavy to me (+SW), which make sense. Would have been crazy IMO to not add SW.
If that is true, it sounds like a winner to me...

So basically Yonex is doing what most of us are doing to our 98s - add weight to the head (tip) to bump swing weight and stability. Then add weight to the handle/throat to reach preferred balance. Interesting to see if the softer layup is substantially different than the existing layup which is pretty soft. Also, tennis marketing materials are ridiculous, "more power AND control." Can someone explain that to me haha.

Do we know if this will be a 16x19 as well?

Oh how interesting. Where is this information from? Are these the 2020 Ezone Plus specs?

I'm planning to buy one for sure. I think the Ezones are the only frames I feel comfortable purchasing without a demo first, because of the strong interest. I still have people regularly asking if I'm willing to part with my last remaining DR 98, even during the lockdown! :)

I think it was from previous ezone , not 2020 version. I got a Instagram saying that plus is out for 2020, but they aren't in the stores yet. so these specs have to be for previous version. They are both Blue color so it is confusing. will have to wait for 2020 plus version to go into the store and have them spec it out. I can only hope Yonex lowered the swing weight in 2020 plus version but I doubt it. If they truly did lower it below 300, then I will definitely try it out and switch to Yonex.

Oh gotcha. Yeah, I agree. It would be wonderful if the swingweights were a bit lower on the new 2020 editions. As someone who currently plays with an RQiS 2 Tour and is looking for a replacement racquet, the Ezone Pluses have been so close to being the perfect replacements, except for the swingweight, which is just too high for me.

LOL, what a co-incidence. I used to play with RQIS 2 and RQIS 1 as well many years ago when it first came out. I loved the serving power of RQIS 2 tour, little bit slow at net but easy to get used to. I still have a Brand new unstrung RQIS 2 sitting in my closet. Anyway, I believe that one had SW of around 323 and 27.5 inches extended length. Very nice specs.

The Wilson Blade 98 v7 16x19 has the same balance unstrung, maybe that is an indication...

My assumption is they took the regular 98 and added 5 grams to the top of the hoop to make strung sw between 330-335 and the balance near 32 cm. They then added 5 grams to the throat/handle as needed to keep the balance near 32 cm. Will be interesting to see if the layup is different based on RDC reading and vibration frequency.

My guess would be an SW similar to the VCP HD, which is around 326. I would be very surprised if they go above 330 SW. The whole "softer base" thing is very intriguing, maybe they removed the whole M40X thing from the throat lol

Trying to figure out how the Tour compares spec wise to my DR 98 based on what we know thus far. The DR 98 is 310g and 310mm unstrung whereas the Tour is slightly heavier at 315g and more HH at 320mm. I believe that works out to around a 3pt difference in balance, correct? 310mm = ~10pt HL and 320mm = ~7pt HL? Which would result in around 4pt HL on the Tour vs 7pt HL strung with the DR 98? Would like to know the swing weight on the Tour, hoping it isn’t too much stick for me to handle. The specs of the DR 98 is pretty much the sweet spot for me personally.

Same on the DR spec for me so I probably would have rather had the Tour balance go the other direction. I've had a lot of success with my DRs at 315g, 305mm unstrung. I've tried to go to frames with more mass in the head in the last 8 months (Blade V7, ASL2) but just haven't found the same magic I can create with the DR at that spec. Good thing I kept 3 out of the 5 I had. Will still playtest the Tour for sure when it comes out though, especially if the RA is softer.

Hi guys, sorry to interrupt the hype of the new plus and tour models, but does anyone know what is the stock replacement grip that comes with the new Ezones?

It’s next to impossible to find replacement Yonex base grips. The closest you’ll find is Tourna Pro Tour or Prince ResiThin. See:

Yonex synthetic leather tour grip is a very good match, I have those on my DR98s

Ezone 98 tour? Wow. While I love sledge hammerin' my VCore 97 330g as much as the next guy, I may have to get this Ezone 98 tour. I was wondering why the new Ezone 98 had such a puny swingweight...

Thanks! I was just trying to find the thickness so when the stock replacement grip begins to flatten I can find one with a similar thickness (maybe more cushioning)
