Depends on the gauge of TB. 1.25 is very stiff. 1.20 is softer. I played 1.25 in the 98 at 40 lbs on my constant pull. Stringbed initially played firm but not uncomfortable. Eventually the string lost its elasticity and became a little harsh in this frame. I have 4G 1.25 in it now at 40 lb. I wouldn’t go high tension with a stiff poly in this frame unless you’re adding weight to it to absorb some of the shock. This version doesn’t have the soft layup that the DR 98 had. I imagine the 98 tour will have a softer layup and with the extra mass it will probably handle high tension and stiff strings well.

That's what I'm hoping for as well - the softer layup was explicit mentioned, so it seems that is precisely what they are going to do.

Interesting..then that had to be the worst glue in history under the stock grip. I took me a while to cleanup the handle.I just read up on it and definitely seems like the Vibration Dampening Mesh (VDM) is on the hairpin inside the handle which users can't access (unless they take handle off revealing bare hairpin). So it is just glue or maybe some other residue users have removed from under the replacement grip. Here is a picture from Yonex website.

Ok seems like TB is pretty harsh and I wanna feel comfortable when playing. What about Poly tour spin? I’ve heard it’s quite similar to Hyper G? I quite like Hyper G and maybe try it again but the Ezone is already a but muted and the string is also the same. I’d like a more lively feel in my stringbed, but then again I feel like a more deader string like Hyper G allows me to take a bigger cut at the ball. Currently got Lynx tour in my 98 at 21,5 and I like the feel (sorta in between a shaped and round string imo) but I just miss that bite I get on the ball with more defined shaped strings.

You've clearly never replaced the grip on a Ai98. The glue residue on that was a hundred times worse.

I'm used to other manufacturers like Babolat using double sided tape which is easier to remove so this is a first for me. I did not remove the glue and rewrapping the base grip slightly tighter did not make a huge difference in grip size. So if I really care I will remove the glue and try again or find a thinner base grip. I am splitting hairs though, still very happy with the setup - 328 grams, 32.5 cm, 320 sw strung with overgrip.

Maybe if the Plus and Tour versions outsell the standard in droves, perhaps they'll knock of $10 or so.

Ok here’s a stupid thought, because that’s all I’ve been having this quarantine. What if it wasn’t pronounced e-zone like we all say, but if it was pronounced like easy one (ez-one). You see like the e and the z pronounced separate. But I guess that implies there will be an ez two (easy two) which I’m not sure will happen. Like I said dumb thought but that’s what pops up in my mind.

I don’t think anyone knows definitively yet. Yonex seems to have suggested it will be softer (lower RA). Though it could have a softer layup with the same RA. If someone knows for sure please share.

Since Yonex specifically said it was going to bring softer I would be shocked if it didn’t have a lower RA on paper. I think it’s gonna be 62 with a softer layup overall.

Yes, really. Look what the postman delivered. I will examine it more closely when I get home, but this grip weighs 21.5g uncut and is thicker/spongier than the stock grip. I'm going to be amazed if its exactly the same as the stock grip that you find on retail racquets which are known to be lighter and thinner than normal grips.
As for the surface material its very similar (they both have a dimple print) but this has a slightly tacky / shiny texture compared to the dull matt that you find on the grips of Yonex retail racquets.
You're clearly from the "its roughly the same, its somewhere in the ballpark, so it will do" camp when its comes to grips, so I'm afraid you're the one who doesn't have a clue...

. So relax before you give yourself a heart attack.It is in fact the exact same once installed since grips get cut to size, stretch & get compressed over time.I have these installed on two of my daughters racquets & have measured using digital calipers.

Can we just agree the base grip that comes with the racket is junk and we should all replace it with something better? Seems like a good way to cut this discussion off at the pass.
replaced mine with Babolat Syntec pro which thickened the handle a smidge. Curious about trying the Angelll hybrid grip as well.

My frames were 302 gram, 31.3 cm, 277 sw stock. With 4 grams at the tip spread across the area covered by the bumper, 4G 1.25, and a Wilson pro overgrip they are 328 gram, 32.5 cm, and 320 sw.

Angell Hybrid are pretty nice. I had them on my ASL2's. Gave a nice bevel feel without being overly firm. Minimal weight change over the standard Angell PU grip also. On my DR98s, I put on Head Ultimate and have used that since (last few years).
base composition being softer = maybe thicker VDM.

Currently 4G 1.25 @ 40 lbs. It’s a firm ride but not harsh. Have also tried TB 1.25 @ 40 and PTP yellow in 1.20, 1.25, and 1.30 all @ 46. These are electric constant pull tensions so add roughly 10% if you are using a crank.
TB was probably the highest performing setup so far, ball action was unreal even when you drive it. PTP is probably the best value and comfort with a slight drop off in performance.
BBO would prob be sweet in this stick. Will prob try ALU next before I settle on something...

I had Volkl Cyclone at 48 lbs. Before that it was the yellow RPM Blast Rough at same tension. Played very similar with both. Firm but not uncomfortable. A bit on the crisper side. I think YPTP would be a good option if you want to go towards softer feel. But that might put a damper on spin a bit.

Hyper G 17 in mine. My pro shop guy recommended 52 lbs which is my usual tension. Pretty happy with it.

Had a 60 min drill session with 4G mains and OGSM crosses @ 46. It was slow feeds and drop hit so I was swinging out. Stringbed initially felt good but quickly lost it’s magic and started to launch when the OGSM crosses started crapping out and could no longer support the 4G mains. I don’t know if I would feel comfortable with this setup in match play. If I did this again I would have to go higher tension and/or use gut crosses which in my experience are more robust than synthetic gut and multi. I think the 98 has a firm hoop so anything you can do to soften the response is value add in my opinion. I love the performance and playability of gut mains but this stick already has enough power on tap for me.

Thanks so much,coincidentally I was thinking OGSM as well but will think twice now.My daughter has the 100 though but it has a similarly firm hoop I feel.Agree with power of gut & one reason I'm hesitant is because the stick already has power on tap like u said.

There is definitely a goldilocks zone for these Ezones when it comes to stringbed stiffness. I think I will ultimately settle with a medium stiffness poly like PTP in the mid 40s or a poly main gut cross hybrid at higher tension. Its good validation that a lot of ATP/WTA players use similar setups, Tiafoe, Fucsovics, Johnson, Osaka, and Bencic, to name a few.

PTP at 53/50 had plenty of power for me in a full bed. Very confident setup, can swing out and keep the ball in, plenty of feel and comfort. I'm playing my best tennis with this racquet, and for once it's leaving me not wanting for more. I have a leather grip on it (98) , overgrip, and experimenting with small amounts of lead tape around 12 o'clock , totaling around 335g
