Yonex EZONE 98 2022 swingweight problem

Hello guys,

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone on TW forum coz I'm new here and this is my first thread.

I bought an 98 ezone 2022 from my local store in Poland and swingweight is kinda off. More than off to be honest.

Unstrung spec with foil on grip:
306,4g (foil was 2,5g)
312mm balance
274.0 SW

Strung with Tour Bite Soft 1.20mm(foil on grip):
321,9g
321mm balance
301 SW

SW was measured on Head RDC machine so results were pretty reliable. We measured it multiple times and it was always 301 or 300.5

We added 4g lead at 12. It bumped the sw to 316 points. Then additional 2g each at 3&9 (4g total). From 316 to 325. Also added yonex heavy dampener to check the sw with it. 4g yonex dampener added 3-3,5 points. And I was happy with it, left the store to play some tennis.

At home I left 4g at 12 but decided to remove 1g each from 3 and 9 to check how it plays in the 320ish swingweight region. So my final spec was 335g (6g lead, overgrip and dampener), 326ish balance and 320-324swingweight.

Played it 3 full sessions and I don't know guys. It was kinda harder to swing than my Extreme Tour Auxetic with 328 swingweight. My serve was awesome on the other hand. Much better bombs with ezone 98 than extreme tour 22. Backhands also good. But forehands are kinda terrible. I don't know, maybe it's the tour bite soft 1.20 @ 21kg? My forehand was erratic, usually long or down in the net.

Have you played with such low specd ezone 98 stock? With only 301-305 SW? I know that thicker gauge will add 2-4 points to swingweight but it shouldn't be a problem really with 1.20 TBS. Maybe 4g at 12 is too much and that's why my forehand feels wrong? Maybe it's combo together with TBS 1.20? On extreme tour I have HGS 1.25 at 22kg and forehands are goood.

Right now I removed 4g from 12 and added 1g each at 3 and 9. So I have only 4g lead total with SW closely to 315 with dampener. I will test it out but I kinda want to restring it and maybe go for Poly Tour Rev 1.25 @22kg.

Have you experienced such low swingweight on ezones 98? I heard that ezones 98 generally play better in stock form but I feel like 304-308sw would be too low.

that is without a doubt too low...many others and myself had a lot of success with weight at 10 & 2. Poly Tour Rev is good in this one. you don't need much... usually 315-320 is good enough for easy peasy magic...

Do we know for sure that the Head RDC was calibrated correctly? Pretty unusual for Yonex to be so far off.

Thats super low. But the Ezones can be a little lower than 280 so it's not unimaginable.

Whats crazy is the static weight seems fine.

I mean, I can't be 100% sure coz it's not mine machine but the owner of the store knows his stuff I guess. I don't really have another guy in my town with another RDC machine so can't really check.

He measured few of my rackets. This was Extreme Tour 2022 with 2,6g @ 12 and 1g each at 3&9. Pretty accurate I guess. ET 2022 was 316SW before mods with hyperg soft 1.25

Static weight without that foil was 304g. SO yeah pretty on point. I guess most of the mass is in the handle (balance clearly shows it as it's not even close to 315 unstrung). Pretty weird with yonex.

You could try playing it at 320 SW. I find that to be good. I typically like upper 320s to low 330s but I think my EZ is 319 strung with some lead at 2 and 10 and it works great. This way the frame is closer to 330 grams strung with og. I think mine is 331.

Its tough since your frame is so low. ideally you want to get it to around 287-290 SW unstrung. Most efficient way in this case would be keeping on the 4 grams at 12. That should bump it around 14 SW points. And then use a 16L (1.23ish) gauge string.

Well, I played with 4g at 12 with just a smidge of lead at 3&9 (1g at 3 and 1 at 9) so it shouldn't really make a huge difference if I only play with 4g at 12.

How much more SW points will add 1.25 Poly Tour Rev or 1.25 PTP yellow? TBS 1.20 added 27 points (from 274 to 301).

I want to mention that few months ago I was playing with 2022 EZONE 100 and it felt great with Solinco Confidential 1.25 @ 24kg. It was 330 sw if I remember. Maybe I should go for Confidential in 98 ezone aswell? I will most definitely test it out because I don't want to give up on yonex ezone 98 that easily

1.2 to 1.3 TB will likely increase SW by 5-6 pts

Lynx tour 1.25 champagne is a hebay 1.25 and adds about 4sw vs other 1.25s. I used to play with that in my ez98 before I switched to tour sniper.. Solid string

I played it in my extreme tour and it gave small wrist pain. Max stiff I can go is probably confidential 1.25. Didn't test lynx tour 1.25 yet

If the RDC is badly calibrated then why on my extreme tour it measured a more likely value of 332.5 SW? If it was badly calibrated then it would also show lower value on Head ETA right?

That’s so low for ezone. Not sure why they aim for that. Maybe like someone said it’s meant to be swung fast for X reason. Still physics …

332.5 is well over spec for extreme tour. That’s stock, no lead?

While I’m not arguing Yonex can’t possibly be low spec, rdc’s also fall out of calibration. It’s not like that would be some super weird and rare event. It’s at least worth checking.

My SW machine came off calibration once and there was no way to tell until I actually tested for it just as part of my regular maintenance.

Its probably calibrated fine. There are Ezones floating around at sub 280 SW so 274 just sounds like you got a dud unfortunately. With YY it happens a lot less but it still happens.

Yeah it will play fine but you will just need to play it at a heavier weight than you may have expected from the listed specs.

Lynx tour adds the most SW points in my experience.

Yonex (*at least the Ezone 98 & Tour) frames are usually on spec with static weights.The SW, on the other hand, seems to have more variances. I’m having the same issue with the Ezone 98 Tour, The ones I have are on spec static weight-wise, but feel different swinging them.
