Yonex Ezone 98 2022 switch to Yonex Percept 100D > 100 > 97

Hi,
I wanted to ask You guys, what will I gain/lose in terms of playability if I switch from Yonex Ezone 98 2022 to Yonex Percept 100D or maybe Percept 100/97?

I am interested in the Percept 100D as a main possible choice, because it has the most similar specification to Ezone 98 2022.

I would prefer good overall/allcourt playability (just like Ezone 98 2022) with more control and minimum loss of power.

Have you played around with your string / tension setups already? I would do that before going through the rabbit hole of different rackets.

If you generally like the Ezone and want more control, you could try stiffer strings or higher tension (if your arm is healthy).

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, I tried some strings / different tensions and settled on Yonex Poly Tour Rev 1,20 mm at 21 kg. I like this setup a lot and do not want to mess around any more, so that is not a problem.

I just like to try new racquets from time to time, but I am a Yonex fan so I do not have a lot of new sticks test. I do not like Vcores. Have been using Yonex DR 98, Ezone 100 2020, Ezone Tour 98 2022 and now Ezone 98 2022, so I am very familiar with Ezone line.

I tried the last Vcore Pro 100, but it was too soft and wild for me.

The newly named line - Percept, especially 100D and 100, are stiffer, so the idea of trying it came to my mind. That is why I posted my question.

Don't rule out 97d. It is quite easy to swing. Don't let weight put u off. What you gain is plough, control&volleying . Plus it is solid in hoop so it goes through ball. Ezone is flimsy in hoop. I got more power with ezone but u don't get the control.
97d i felt was better in every shot as it's aim was predictable . U get a descent shot from anywhere on stringbed. I felt yonex' before were abit too flimsy in hoop. 97d is not though.

I love these racquets on everything but serve. Wish I could serve with them or I would switch.
Yes serve seemed possible though. I only played with it today. U need to get ur body into it with heavy 97d racket . I am not great at smash or serve. But potential & accurscy was there it just gonna take a little while 2 work it out . What parts of body 2 combine control serve. U can't arm it in.Mayb accuracy more than power. Mayb just place it in corners of box more than go for real power . I think u can use corner points at side of the top flat silly shape on yonex racket as some sort of a guide 2 serve also.

For what it’s worth my kid has a whippy forehand and uses hyper g soft 16l mains 52lbs and 17g crosses 52lbs in his Ezone 98 it’s amazing.

P97 has the most similar spec to ez98, in fact it was identical to mine when I measured them. Different hitting experience due to the flex. I did not like p97, too mushy on contact. 100d better but felt clunkier and not as precise as EZ98.

100% agree with your statement. P97 is too mushy on contact. The VCORE Pro 97 has a much better feel.

Are you two talking about standard p97 or p97d?

I'm curious about the D cause it's a bit stiffer then the regular 97.

Also quite curious about the percept 100D

I think that’s exactly what you get! I did have to drop tension (mines 41lbs with a 33 end DT) and I strung the top 4 crosses 1 pound lower to soften the string bed a little up there. I’m an all court guy (4.0) and this racquet is exactly what I needed to dial in my game before our team heads to Nationals (humble brag, but really my team is filled with amazing players).

Anyone have multi-hybrid string recommendations for the 100/100D?

I’m hitting the 100D with Nrg2/Hyper G @ 51 right now. Feels like it could probably go lower, i watched part of that video and he was talking about an aggressive main with a softer cross (I think)….and wondering how i would replicate in a hybrid.

Thanks!!

I use a poly/poly hybrid and it’s fantastic! It’s Ytex Square X Sharp mains and Ytex Protour 17L black crosses. The Protour Black is actually a soft/comfortable string. I do string low @41 but I use this combo for a bunch of guys (from low 40’s to mid 50’s) and it’s been very durable with average/good tension maintenance. As a stringer there is always a compromise with string choices. Cost, feel, spin potential, durability and tension maintenance. For a rather thin set up I’m impressed with how this particular combo lasts. Cheers bud

Nice!! Appreciate that input!

I'm currently hitting one with Babolat addixion+ in the mains and Toro enso in the crosses @51. Really only did the bab because i bought some of those promo packs for like $2. It's actually feeling really nice...soft feel but good pop. Good spin and control.

My other has poly tour drive in the main and poly tour pro in the crosses, also @51. I think this one is too stiff. I'll probably end up staying in a multi hybrid but will play with poly hybrids a little more....definitely need to lower into the 40's on the tension though.

How about Multifeel 54/PT Air 46?

100D really shines when you string it in low 40s
Mine arrives tomorrow strung at 48lbs. Guess it will be in the mid to low 40s a few weeks later with tension loss? Low 40s seems a low start point, how do you find it at that tension?

I was using PE97 before with full bed of 4G at 42lbs, played OK with it but wanted a little bit more power. Demoed 100D and strung it up with 48lbs was alight. When I bought mine and gave it to my trusty stringer, he forgot what I said and strung with the same 4G at 42lbs, and then I found out it played even better. Still enough control and way more power and comfort.

So in reality you are playing with something in the 30s in no time re tension unless you are restringing on a regular basis? Not sure I am brave enough to start at 42lbs although as above suspect I get to that tension in a few weeks!! Looks like it works well for you though and maybe I will go a while without new strings to see how it feels!! I played with the Percept 100D yesterday for the first time and enjoyed it. Certainly there were a few shots that would have gone long with the Vcore 98. The only thing I missed was the extra spin that the Vcore gives but I need to develop that once more with the Percept as it wasn't quite as wippy as the Vcore 98. But I am only 2 hours into playing with the Percept so looking forward to playing with it again.

I agree that the 100D really does shine in the <45 range. For me the biggest difference between the Ezone is spin. There are some minor feel differences. However, launch angle of the 100D is much lower than the EZ100. I probably noticed this the most on topspin forehands and kick serves.

Played another 2 hours with the Percept 100D today and really enjoyed it once more. Major plus is hitting the lines more often and not hitting long which I tended to do from time to time with both the Vcore and the Ezone. Don't feel as if I have got my topspin really connected yet after the Vcore 98 but the amount of control is fantastic. Serves also felt good in terms of hitting my spots, again just missing some spin at times, however I accept that's the trade off of the Percept 100D versus the Vcore 98. I don't seem to be struggling with the lower launch angle that others have commented upon with the Percept 100D. Still early days and some more for me to do to get back some of the topspin I am missing.

I usually cut my string in 2 weeks (around 8-10hrs hitting time) With a dead poly string like 4G I think you will be fine.
