Anyone else find the DR98 quite powerful? I have upped my tension to 60/58 Solinco Hyper G and find it performing better, may even go 63/61 with one of my back ups for days where I need it low powered.

I've been playing with the DR98 for a little over a year now, and I don't think it is overly powerful. I've been playing with Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable, and I get it strung at 45lbs.

Compared with most 8 strings in throat 98in rackets this feels powerful to me. Maybe it is the isometric head shape that makes it feel like a 100in kind of power. Maybe hyper G is also more powerful than I first thought, will try it with Velocity next and see.

Not at all powerful, probably your previous racquet had a higher swing weight (?). It got the ideal power for my game (except if am not setup properly to play my SHBH). My setup is volkl cyclone (18g@52lbs or 17g@50lbs).

I have after maybe a decade of intense loyalty to O3, speedport, and Textreme Prince frames moved on to a new weapon.

I’ve been in love with the Yonex EZONE 100 300g.
I was actually interested in the DR Blue 100 plus but just wasn’t connecting with my shots.

What I love most about the EZONE 100 Green/Black is the right mixture of dampened feel (without a dampener) and also that controlled response feeling.
I have no problem moving from textreme warrior right to the EZONE.

So yea. I’ve like so many have left prince. I stayed for a long time tho.
I too played with Prince Warrior and switched to EZONE 100 300g and it made a huge improvement to my game it made me wonder why I stuck with Prince so long. Easy power along with control, substantially improved my backhand. I’m a guy that likes to find a new stick every year or so and always trying something new to demo, looking for new toy. I haven’t found a racket that can out perform my EZONE. I’m hoping Yonex come out with newer version or just new graphics. I may take a look at the EZONE plus (27.5). I’m curious if I will see a difference in performance compared to the 27.

Has anyone customized their DR 100? I add 2 grams at 3 and 9 but I’m having mixed feelings about it. It’s definitely more stable but sometimes I feel like it excessively powerful on forehands and serves.

Does any have experience with customization or have any recommendations?

Thank you

Move those weights down to 4-5/7-8? That should reduce SW a little and still give you stability.

Finding the RS Lyon 17 works really well in the DR98, tried 59lbs and 51lbs so far, prefer 51 which turned it into a serving beast but also kept the ball in during baseline exchanges! 59lbs was good for playing bigger hitters but a little weak at times.

What string set ups do you guys use on your DR 98s? I tried out tour bite at 48 (Andy from TW's personal favorite) but have found balls flying a bit long on me more than expected.

Andy for some reason likes extremely low tension set-ups. I remember him saying he liked Gut/Poly at 53/51 lbs. That would be a rocket launcher for me. Try Tour bite at 53-54 lbs...

Ok, but UC is a control spin string. Did you try your dr with other strings?

Absolutely loving this stick so far. Got the last two that TW had in stock randomly last month, got the grip size shaved down, and have been playing with it exclusively ever since. The first couple of weeks were a bit of an adjustment especially on serve, but I'm now fully on board. Just won my first league championship so I've got a $50 TW gift card on the way! Maybe I'll experiment with some string setups now...

Not planning on buying another racquet any time soon.

I've played with lots of different strings. Tour bite, RPM Blast, Tourna BHB7. The racquet is great. I just don't find it overly powerful.

Try adding some Tungsten tape in the head and counterbalancing with weight 7" above the butt cap (top of the grip). It doesn't need to be much... might be all you need to unlock the magic if you liked all the other aspects of the racquet. It will also increase the stability and the size of the sweet spot.

There is an app you can use to work it out, from the guys who do racket tune

Noticed these gold ones popping up in the bay Australia, what's the chances of getting them in the UK? I think weighted up the curremt Ezone 98 may be a very good racket.

A few Yonex Questions..
Anyone knows if the DR or Ai 98 310 exists in Grip 1?
Can you change the Pallets?
How can i place Silikon in the Grip?

Yes, but still there are only numbers. Feel is immeasurable

As you have said feel is immeasurable and very individual. For that reason, it is very hard to recommend strings to you. Furthermore, do you like a round string, or a shaped one?

Things that have been recommended in the past here have been: RS Lyon, Yonex PTP, and Tier One Black Knight (amongst others).

Strings I also personally liked have been Kirschbaum Super Smash (Honey), Luxilon Savage (Black), Weiss Cannon Red Ghost, Solinco Revolution 16L.

Try having the Mains and Crosses at a 3 Lbs differential, with the Mains being tighter (52M/49C or 50M/47C, etc). The exact tension is also a personal thing as some people can handle looser tensions and still retain control, while others say the racquet becomes a rocket launcher if you go too low... so just experiment.

Hope that helps.

What lively string would you recommend in the DR98? I played with my friend’s DR98 and it felt disconnected compared to my VCP97 310.
could you code name any of the uk places?

vokyl cyclone is lively if you want a high spin string, the think RS Lyon is lacking a little bit for me at the moment.

Wilson Natural Gut and with Weiss Cannon Silver String crosses works great for me in the mid 50 LB range. Feels crisp and has more than adequate spin potential.
Does anybody know where I can get 1 or 2 yellow DR 98 (310g) in a 4 1/8 grip? I’m desperate to find backups. Thanks for any leads.

Did you really write you like the old super smash? That string is so outdated you never find what your racquet is capable of, besides the enormous temsion loss of it. Furthermore, the dr98 is so plush, you could put every string it to play comfortably.

Hi ! Which of poly do you recommend for DR 98 to have plush feel? I bought used racquet with 4g but it too stiff
I have been playing with Dr98 a couple of years with RD Lyon and been pleased enough to not feel the need to try something else. I have a pair and ask the stringer to put 22 Kg on one of them and 24 on the other. I find these string playable quite long so at the end I guess the tension has dropped quite a lot.
I have heard some people complaining about these string being low powered but I find them to have a rather perfect combination of power, spin and feel.

I switched from full bed of Silverstring to RS Lyon. The feel is UNBALEEBLE. I didnt find it underpowered either, neither did TW in their RS Lyon review. Other strings that worked well are PSGD/Mosquitto Bite, gut/silverstring, Cyclone.

Not sure what response you're looking for here... you read what I wrote right...? Then in the next sentence, you state that the DR98 is so plush any string will do... so I guess you answered your own question. But just to calm you down and bring you back from the ledge... I have at least 20-25 strings at home... so just for you... I promise not to use Super Smash with the DR98 any more... feeling better now?

Just out of interest... who determines what's outdated? Is a 30 yr old racquet like the Head Prestige Classic 600 outdated? How about the PT630... that's 25 years old? How about Federer at 38... outdated? I bet McEnroe using any racquet and any string would kick both of our asses simultaneously, and he's REALLY outdated...

Sometimes it's better to concentrate on your skills than to worry whether the equipment is "outdated"... I played very well with the Super Smash (Honey), I also played very well with YPTP, Weiss Cannon Red Ghost, Solinco Revolution, Hyper G, 4G, Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable, Kirschbaum Evolution, etc, etc, etc. Maybe you just need to improve your technique... then you'll be able to get more out of both your strings and your racquet... just a thought :oops:;)(y)

should we start a petition for Yonex to reboot the DR series they're getting really hard to find even if they sold them at full price we would buy and the sales would be out of control everyone would win (Yonex, ourselves. and retailers).

There's a new one coming soon... and I think it's been mentioned that it's got a lower RA... so might be similar to the DR98.

Will it still be under the ezone name. couldn't imagine it being that similar

I think so... there are other threads talking about it... have a look. I could be wrong, as one of the questions asked in the new Vcore Pro thread asked about both racquets (Vcore and Ezone) and the person answered but didn't specify which part of the answer pertained to which part of the question that was asked (release date and RA)... from memory.

Which string do people feel has the best control in this racket? By that I mean consistent response that helps keep the ball in on big swings.
