Yonex Percept 100D

Demoing the Yonex Percept 100D. And jotting down my thoughts.
I have played with it for about 3 hours now. I plan to play more.

Here are my key takeaways about the racket -
Low swing weight and easy to whip. However feels stable on contact.
Underpowered but able to generate depth.
Launch angle may be a bit low.
Large sweet spot with very little vibration. Definitely arm friendly.

I like to swing big on my forehands (more on the flatter side) and have one handed BH. Easy to generate depth and maneuver the racket.

Pretty easy to volley with and stable at the net. Was able to control and be precise with the volleys.

I was also able to hit my first serves quite flat and hit my targets.

How have others liked it?

I've demo'ed the 100D twice now. Ball contact feels great and control is there. You could add 4-5 grams to the butt and at 12 o'clock to get mid 330's weight and swingweight (with over grip) which is nice. I bet it would be an enjoyable racket to own and play with

Serve returns are good as well.

I like to take cuts on my forehand returns and chip back my backhand.

Worked well on both.

For my set up I did add some weight at 10 and 2 on the racket and then counter weighted in the grip as well. I recently took off my leather grip just to test some things but so far really enjoying my set up so far.

An update on this.
The racket definitely feels underpowered and hits a slightly less heavy ball.
Still able to hit it deep just a little less heavy.

Drop tension.. and crosses should at least be 2 lbs lower than mains. I was stringing at 47/45 on my VC98 and down to 42/40 with the 100D. Loss of any control is negligible.

I demoed a 100d in a grip size 1 too small for myself. Took it into a match with no overgrip and whatever old strings TW had in it and I won my match. That got me pretty dang hot on the racquet. Gives you all the confidence in the world to swing out and hit aggressively.

Was not nearly as whippy as my standard Ezone 98. Left me with less shot selection, but the ones that it did well, it did great.

You probably made a lot less unforced errors!

congrats on the win

Pretty much. And it could have just been in my head but I wasn’t even attempting too many short angle whippy shots to land and bounce out by around the time the ball crossed the service line. I’ll never forget my last shot was actually a clean winner. The server hit me sort of a lollipop that sat up to my forehand (duece side), I flattened it out and just went straight down the line past the net player. It wasn’t incredibly hard or tricky. It just didn’t lose any pace due to unnecessary rotations and went over the net by about 6-12”, landing maybe 2 feet before the baseline. That last shot sort of summarized my entire playing experience. Redirected a serve, hit my spot perfectly, and a trajectory/flat pace that made it very difficult to defend against.
Volleys were effortless even at stock weight and serves were clean, albeit not bombs.

This thing hits a nice ball but the springy feel no bueno. I feel like it needs a stiff string at a higher tension to get the right feel.

I don't find it very springy at all. It's a little more powerful than I'm used to (Vcore pro 97HD), but still has excellent control. I have a fairly stiff string in it, Prince Diablo, at 50/46 at the moment, and the precision is excellent.

It might be the string that’s in it. I think it’s bagged. Also I’m used to a Prince 95 which has a small sweet spot so the D feels like a Big Bubba.

I’m going to ask the shop if I can put my usual setup in the demo. Lynx Tour 1.25mm at 53lbs and go from there.

Been playing with my 100D and loving it. I've been customizing, and I think I'm done for the time being. Only 2 hitting sessions with these specs, but it feels good:

Static weight: 355
Balance: 11 pts HL
Swing weight: 329

Strung with Prince Diablo 17 at 50/46

I demod and used the 100D for about a couple weeks and it did feel very nice like people are saying on here it feels a little underpowered and the launch angle is a bit lower.
I did string it around 52 or 53 with technifibre 4s black, but i think stringing it lower would have been better maybe 48 or even lower. I would say it does suit a person who has a flatter hitting style i like to add spin so i ended up switching from the racquet but i still did enjoy hitting with it more so than the regular 100.

I just received a secondhand 100D, and looking forward to experimenting with it (alongside the gravity tour and pure strike 16x20 that also came in). Going to start with Toroline wasabi pomegranate red, maybe it’ll also help with the launch angle others have perceived to be relatively low?

The launch angle was not my flavor either. Way to many balls clipping the tape given my swing style.

No such issue with a speed mp for example

Check 30 minutes into this video.

Yeah I thought it was odd to go from ac95 to 100. He mentioned trying the gravity pro which is much different than both frames. So idk. If he wants control and a little more power - speed Pro might be better.

Except he loves the racket, but it cracks without reason.

Built the grip up a size (didn't have a heat shrink sleeve so used 2 layers of duct tape), added a little lead tape on the butt cap flare, added a leather grip, and a little lead at 10/2 as well. Specs were measured strung with Prince Diablo Prism 17g, Tourna overgrip, and dampener.

Where are the cracks usually located? Obtained 2 used ones and just want to look out for the cracks.

Hit with one with a leather grip yesterday, feels really whippy and soft upon contact, will probably add weight at 10/2 (2g each). Strung with tour bite at 53g. Anyone have a similar setup?

I believe the cracks are appearing at the throat. Thankfully I haven't experienced it yet though.

My setup is somewhat similar. I what had to build the grip up a size before installing the leather grip, similar lead, and looser strings (50/46). I'm absolutely loving it still.

Thanks. Are the cracks just from normal usage or from hitting it on the ground?

Well looks like Karue is still rocking the 100D....to his all time high rankings. (y)

12.5oz Gravity Pro has been my main since early 2023 and it's been great, but now I'm feeling like I'm working too hard and want a faster lag timing. Demoing Blade 98 V8 (nice feel/stability per weight) and recently got my hands on used 100D.

Not impressed right away, but after setting 100D a-la Karue (K-POP at ~58, a bit of lead at 3+9+12) I see why he is playing this - combination of forgiveness, spin and control is kinda mindboggling.

Solid ball with tons of spin comes easy and generous stingbed consistency makes you feel like you can keep a point going for days. It remininded me of PA RAFA, but more controlled and versatile because you can actualy flatten out with this without fear of overhitting and are not forced to get under every ball.

I played with it for about a month. VS GUT 54 pounds in the main, PTP 51 in the cross.

Great on flat serves, my 2HB (flatter, compact swing), volleys, slices.

I just couldn’t calibrate it with my forehand. Even with a very control oriented string tension, felt like the driving forehands would go long. Spinny forehands brushing up against the ball would land short. I could generate spin but not the heavy spin I was going for. Directional precision was off.

I went back to my Blade 98 and suddenly those issues disappeared and felt like I could actually feel my forehand again.

I have no idea how widespread/common the cracking issue really is. But I still love mine and haven't had any issues, so yes, I would still recommend it.

Tempted to buy this racquet, but slightly concerned with the cracking issues reported.
Would you guys still recommend it?
I think this also could be due the tensions he is using and maybe Yonex never expected people to play with high tensions. Their tension ratings could be something like MPG on a vehicle where the conditions have to be almost godlike for you to get that fuel efficiency.

I have one after asking members what I should go with. Its amazing on Flat and Slice Serves. Deadly on slices on both wings. My 1HBH is not bad with it and I am still trying to dial in my forehand. I bought this 100D in the search for a 100sq in head of my old kFactor Six.One95

That's not exactly what I was looking for when I switched, but I like that considering I still have my old k factor six.One 95, haha.

I have the Six One 95 Mardy Fish Model and it was so amazing to use but that 95sq inch head at this age will not help me almost pushing 50.

Yeah, I'm not pushing 50 but I am older/slower than I used to be and I play maybe once a week, so I needed a little more help as well, particularly on serve return. A little extra weight and this racquet was exactly what I needed.
