Hello all haha,

There are a lot of posters here who love Yonex strings and they're definitely unique in feel and tension retention, as an experienced user (I got into the Pro and HS strings wayyy back in 2011) I've had the pleasure to use Yonex strings in a variety of frames (ranging from tweeners to players frames) and wish to discuss tensions and hybrids with other likeminded players - or people who are new to the Polytour series.

Personally, I use Polytour Pro 1.20mm in a Wilson Blade 98 18 x 20 at 40/38 pounds. I've also had great success with Polytour Spin mains / Polytour pro crosses at similar tensions and Polytour HS full-beds at around 35 pounds (to compensate for the increased stiffness).

I'm really trying to fully unlock the spin potential of these strings by crossing Polytour Pro 120mm with Solinco Outlast 1.15mm at low tensions, any posters here have good hybrid success with any of the Yonex strings?

I use YPTP 120 in my Babolat PD Roddick @ 45/44. Its my favourite poly, I especially love its spin, power and comfort. I'm going to lower the tenion to 38 lbs next time.
I hybridized both YPTP 130 and YPTP 125 with N.vy 130. It's a very good setup if you want more power and comfort. Hybridizing with synthetic gut or multi will reduce spin potential though.
I don't have the urge to hybridize YPTP 120, as this gauge already gives me enough power and comfort. Not to mention the incredible amount of top spin it produces, which I definitely want to keep. And with full poly it's possible to string at really low tensions and I like stringing my poly's low.
I never hybridized two poly's, maybe it's time to try it, so I'm a looking forward to hear about some interesting setups. A full bed of YPTP 120 will be hard to beat though. I have heard a lot of people mentioning a YPTS/YPTP hybrid.

Fun coincidence: I just strung up my PDR+ with syn gut mains and YPTP 1.25 crosses. Not to derail the fan club thread (since I've never used YPTP before), but I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm stoked that this string works well in a racquet that I don't have too much experience with.

YPTP 120 seems to be better in the lower 40s....maybe lower. I strung it up at 48.... and it was OKAY..... nothing to write home about. As the string settled and tension dropped, YPTP has really started to shine. I am tempted to string it between 40-44 next time.

I have a set of YPTP 125 ready to go in my pure strike 18x20. Though i am really loving Volkl Cyclone at the moment, im tempted to just stay with this.

Does anyone have experience using PTP as a cross for something like RPM Blast in the mains?

Using a 2013 APD and a surgically repaired elbow and always looking to keep the string bed soft (esp with a stiff frame). Played for a while with full NXT Tour (Power) 18 but fell out of love with the low durability. Have crossed the NXT (now 17) with RPM Blast 17 but the Blast ate the mains in no time. Now have Blast mains with NXT crosses but with similar results. Was thinking of trying Blast in the mains and PTP 120 yellow as crosses, hoping it would hold up better and allow sliding of strings vs. almost immediate notching.

Any thoughts?

Hybridizing with synthetic gut or multi will reduce spin potential though. .

Can anyone comment on performance difference of YPTP in hybrid vs. full bed? I tried 16g hybrid with syn gut cross, around 53 lbs. Hit ok for 6 hours but not much spin and way too much string movement. Maybe I needed to string at higher tension, not sure? However, I'm willing to give this string another shot since it is so damn comfortable and I think I could play full bed with no arm problems. Is spin and performance significantly better in full bed?

Surprised to see people stringing below 50 lbs with this string. I felt like I needed to go higher, to around 55lbs but that was a hybrid set up.

Can I rejoin the club please?

Yonex Poly Tour Pro 125 was the first poly string I ever tried when I started playing tennis regularly last summer and it was great. I had a full bed of the yellow string at the time but I've since moved on to hybrids using other polys.
I bought a pack of the black stuff while I was on holiday in Hong Kong to use as back up and just ordered a pack of Tecnifibre Duramix HD with the intention of trying the 2 in a hybrid.
I started using PTP at 55lbs in my Pro Staff 6.1 95 but have strung my hybrids at 57lbs. After reading the thread and discovering so many people have strung it so low, I was wondering whether I should continue with 57lbs or go lower.

Great string, does anyone know what the HS is like compared to YPTP?

It's very solid, stiff, control-oriented with great spin. Way way less power than PTP, it plays more similarly to PTS but slightly more solid.

I use Poly Tour Pro 120 at 38 pounds, so I dare say you can try it at a variety of tensions, If I were to use HS I'd string it at about 34 or 35 to compensate for the loss of power.

But keep in mind I use a 18 X 20 string pattern, if I were using a more open pattern I'd bump it up to the high 40's

I am a fan! I am using it as a cross with gut main. It is comfortable with good spin. Was using Cyber Blue prior to this and that gave me elbow pain.

I've used it with gut mains. There are better polys out there to cross with gut mains.

I think PTP shines in a full bed.

Had my Pure Strike 18x20 strung with Yonex Poly Tour Pro on Friday at 48lbs. I went with the 1.25. First impressions when it was strung were how thick the string was. This did concern me a little as I do normally prefer 17g but this looked more like 16g, which I now think it is 16g. Anyway I played Saturday with it. I love it! Nice feel, good ball pocketing, comfy, nice spin access, power was a little lacking but im not overly fussed about that. I love the bright neon yellow colour too! All in all an extremely good string. Nice and cheap too.

This is the 4th string I have trialed in my Pure Strike in the last 2 months or so and so far this is my fave. I loved Volkl Cyclone but this Yonex gets my vote!

Id be interested to see what the 1.20 plays like.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the 125 and 130 gauges of PTP at all, it's never quite worked for me, just feels really dead and stubborn and I struggle to get spin with my swing-style.

The 120 version is a complete 180 turnaround, I think because it's a new development the actual formula has been tinkered with, it's ALOT softer than the thicker versions and seems to have alot better snapback, so in an 18 X 20 frame I think you'd be wise to try the 120 version.

Yes I agree with whomever said PTP isn't good as a cross for gut, I don't think it is at all, but HS is great as a cross, it's got that 4G feel and is a great polar opposite to the gut.

I tried it at 30 pounds (no joke) and it played ridiculously well (but I prob prefer it at 35-40), this thing really excels at low tensions, it's a bit like Solinco Outlast they both get better and better the lower you go.

PTP 120 - Really good

I tried yonex PTP 120 recently and it is really good string. Probably best, most balanced string i tried so far. It have very good control and comfort like 125 version, but with better spin and much better feel. While 125 version is too muted, PTP 120 have nice crispier feel. I expected more power than thicker gauge, but i was surprised that power level is similar. I exprerienced some last sec. block returns where i was sure that my ball must go out, but it was in. String is not springy as some other thinner polys. But when i'm aggresive, string give me all power i need with realy good control. Also durability is very good for 1.20 gauge, on par with most 1.25 gauge polys. Paradoxly, in my country only one eshop carry 120 version of PTP and no reel. 125 and 130 versions are much more common.

hello, had anybody try YPTP 125 in crosses and super 850 pro multi in mains?

usually the poly is at mains but they told me that if you put the multi in mains u will have a bit more power with the same spin.

I got the black PolyTour Pro 1.25 mm. This is really a durable string. If I knew it would be this durable I would have opted for the 1.20 mm version.

I tried the PTP 1.25 strung at 52 in a K90. Agree with the folks here, in the first few sessions the string felt awesome. Very comfortable on the arm. Opponent commented on how much more spin my shots had. Pretty good feel as well.

However, after a few hitting sessions, the tension seems to have dropped off a LOT (RT gives me a reading of 30-34 right now) and my strokes are now flying way out. I got this because I was told it retains tension quite well. Having never played with a poly before, I don't know if ~10 hours of play for a poly is considered good at holding tension, so maybe my expectations were incorrect to begin with.

Thanks guys! How is the drop in power?
Relative to Sonic Pro? YPTP isn't a dead poly, so it'll offer some jump/liveliness unlike really dead polys, no need to worry in that regard IMO. I really like its all around performance, it doesn't really have a striking weakness I find. Jack of all trades, master of none is a good description really.

YPTP 1.25 IMO has fantastic tension maintenance . With racquet tune, 5-6 lbs loss in 12 plus hrs singles, with minimal notching in a Aero Pro Drive.

has anyone hit the poly tour tough?

agreed on poly tour pro...i've gone through reels and reels and reels of that stuff...
Yeah, not a fan of poly tour tough. Wasn't getting much on the ball, fast swings weren't producing the spin I'd have liked, control wasn't great at that, not much of any pocketing and not really much feel to speak of... if I had to use it again, I'd string it way low, but as is, it just sort of is there. I dunno man, it just does nothing for me.

Poly Tour Pro is a much better string in my book.

I only tried Poly Tour Spin G in a leaded Strike Team. Really loved it. Good for my high spinny strokes.
Maybe next time I should try PTP 1.20

My DR98 is due for a restring, and I have ordered a set of the YPTP 125. I usually prefer a hybrid setup, and I'm currently using RPM Blast in the mains and VS Touch natural gut in the crosses. If I switch to a full bed of the YPTP, is that going to be too much of a change? I'm a 4.0 doubles player, so I appreciate string with a little pop!

I would recommend replacing the RPM Blast mains with the Poly Tour Pro first before going to a full bed.

Have you tried it with the gut in mains + rpm crosses? Plays really well in DR98 imo. When strings finally break for me I will probably try some different poly crosses though. Gonna try poly tour pro, poly tour fire, wilson revolve, and maybe lux element (mahut setup I'm curious to try).

It should be fine. Launch angle will be higher though.

Thanks for all of the responses. I really appreciate it. When I first bought my DR98, I had requested to have natural gut in the mains and the YPTP 125 in the crosses, but my local pro shop didn't have the Yonex string, so I opted for the VS Touch/RPM blast string set. Funny thing happened too. The stringer accidentally reversed what I asked and put the RPM in the mains and the gut in the crosses. That was 9 months ago (I only play 5-6 times per month). I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do yet. I ordered the YPTP from the same pro shop, and it has hasn't come in yet. I can't help wondering how it would feel with the VS touch in the mains and the RPM blast in the crosses, but I like what I'm reading (here) about the Yonex string.

It is generally recommended, in gut/poly setup, to have gut in the mains; smooth poly crosses. RPM blast is a rough string, and dies very quickly. I would recommend VS/Tonic+ mains, and a smooth poly cross (dependent on your needs). Head hawk/max power are great for a crisp stringbed (Maxpower is stiffer), Wilson revolve and Cream are good crosses for a softer stringbed(PTP is good aswell, just dents faster than revolve). There is a huge thread on gut/poly in string forum that might help you pick a great setup from a multitude of experienced players. These are some of the top recommendations on the thread.

Hey so has anyone used YPTS 125/YPTP 120 hybrid? how does it play and what tension do you recommend on a Yonex Tour G 310?

ALU Power, Co-Focus, Red Ghost, Black Magic

I've liked all of those better as crosses with gut mains.

Alu power due to its poor tension maintenance and lack of confort can be tough on the arm.

What did you dislike about PTP 120 as crosses with gut?

Had some issues with 120. Probably need to try 130 or 125. I don’t have arm issues at all with 4G, Alu, or Cyclone, but with this string, I do. I don’t know why. It’s the strangest thing.

To top it all off, I had a set pop near the 5 o’ clock area of the frame where the string exits the grommets no more than four days in. Made clean contact to where my opponent had been jammed and pulled his shot wide and POP.

I have to disagree with you about the comfort of fresh alu power but agree that the tension maintenance is bad.

Ptp120, i found didn't have the same slickness, snapback, and spin as a cross for gut. As a gut cross, it was rather average.

Hey so has anyone used YPTS 125/YPTP 120 hybrid? how does it play and what tension do you recommend on a Yonex Tour G 310?

I did not tried this hybrid, but full bed of YPTP 120 (46/42 lbs) is pretty good. I do not think YTPS is good match for Tour G 310. It is really good for tweener type of racquet though.

Just out of curiosity, this "Yellow is better than the black" thing really proceeds or it is in the brain of the gearheads?
I really liked the yellow 1.25 performance but i'm more of a black string kind of guy.
