I have to disagree with you about the comfort of fresh alu power but agree that the tension maintenance is bad.

Ptp120, i found didn't have the same slickness, snapback, and spin as a cross for gut. As a gut cross, it was rather average.
Thanks for ur feedback.

What would you recommand as a crosses for main guts? I was thinking of Isospeed cream ...

Just out of curiosity, this "Yellow is better than the black" thing really proceeds or it is in the brain of the gearheads?
I really liked the yellow 1.25 performance but i'm more of a black string kind of guy.

I just ordered a pack of black 1.25 to figure that out. I have a frame that has yellow 1.20, I don’t hit with it too often but the string should be closer to the grave than it is. Hopefully I can find similar longevity in black to string the rotating cast.

I ended up going with a reel of YPTP 1.20 yellow. The 1.25 Black was good but a slightly less pocketing and bite even when 5lbs less.

I ordered the reel of YPTP to the US from TWE and it shipped from Germany. It was 92.28 usd for the reel and shipping was 20.76 usd with a few other things in the order. I have no idea why it is $195 for a reel shipped inside the US.

Best deal in town. I do the same thing. The 1.20 gauge is great.

I have the 120 yellow with me and planning to string it in my Prince Phantom 93P. What tension to go with? 48 x 45?

Just bought a reel of Poly Tour Pro 16L in the new Blue color. Should look very sharp strung my new 2020 Yonex EZONE 100. I’ll most likely get a reel of flash yellow as well.

The 1.20 gauge is far better than 1.25 which is only powerfull but little spin potential and feel.

i felt the 1.20 yellow was more powerful (more elastic) than the 1.25 black.
the 120 does have more spin & feel, but less comfort & tension maintenance than 125.
strung at 42/40 full bed on ezone.

Funny I just got a reel of the yellow. Would like the blue but was afraid it would play different than the yellow 1.25, which I have enjoyed. Does it play identical?

I just ordered it and it hasn’t come in yet. I’ll definitely post how it played when I string it with the blue.

In case people were unaware, you can get a reel of PTP shipped with tracking number from the UK for $91.04 from a certain "depot". Their shipping charge and retail price is quite a bit lower than TWE and worlds cheaper than TW in the US.

Even cheaper depending which shipping method you pick. Looks like it can be shipped to the US for close to $70.

The EZONE 98 I have demoed and recently purchased was strung with this string. I played with it a few times previously in my DR and it was 1.25 and didn't care for it. The 1.20 in the new EZONE played very well. I generally use an all poly hybrid with one shaped string as my main but may snag a reel of this since it's so cheap.

I found that on my 4th hit with the YPTP in my Phantom 93P, I was overhitting a fair bit. Did the tension drop that much already?

I cut my PTP 1.20 after around 4h of play. But it is so cheap in reel and I string myself so I don’t care. But if you hit hard 4hours is about it.

You’re hitting a 1.20 poly. Do you really think it will last >12 hours with any degree of hard hitting? Any 1.20 poly?

Unfortunately that’s the price of stringing 1.20. With 1.20 or lower I usually don’t get an hour or two until it bags out or breaks on me. The 1.25 may be better for you.

Well, I usually always played 1.25mm. However, that gauge does not seem to work well for me in my Phantom 93P or 18 x 20 patterns in general which got me looking at thinner gauges.

I see. Well I can say I’ve been playing 1.25 yptp in my 18/20 blade and been enjoying it.

i have been recently playing yptp 1.20 in my v7 18x20 blade... strung 50/47lbs and it plays extremely well.

I recall using the Yellow 1.20 a while back, and the string feeling quite mushy within 2 hours of playing; however this does not seem to be consistent with what posters are saying here.

I dont disagree that it plays well. How is the tension maintenance?
I thought it was reasonably good. It stabilized around 45lbs by 12th hour... i cut it out after that as i started noticing a little compromise in control... what i really like about this string is that you get exactly what you put in it.. no wild bounces, no unintended launches... very linear and predictable response and very impressive spin for this round poly. If you are looking to boost some specific area then its probably not a great choice but it is a no nonsense poly that is comfy, enough spin and ton of control. Thats all i need

what racquet did you use it in and at what tension?

Can anybody recommend a string for crosses to use with the Yonex Poly Tour Spin in mains?
My current setup is YPTS in mains @ 25kg, WeissCannon Scorpion 1.22 in crosses @24kg and I would like to explore other options, in order to have more power and not to have to re-string as often. So I though of durable synthetic gut (1.30 perhaps) ? What are the pro's and con's of syngut vs round poly in crosses? Assuming I would go down in tension with polys.
I am not a string breaker and the racquet is TF40 305. I only play on clay, if it matters. Oh, and hence Europe, only have access to the strings that are sold in europe.

Aight, went ahead and ordered these:

Volkl Classic Synthetic Gut 17/1.25 String Black
Ashaway Liberty Synthetic Gut 16 (1.30) White
Wilson Synthetic Gut Power String Set (16/1.30) Red

if anybody can now recommend a tension for YPTS mains and these syngut crosses?

Recently played with the blue PTP 1.25 and rather enjoyed it. How do people find the yellow/ black compare?

Also thinking of trying the 1.30 - does it play different to the 1.25?

There cant be find any physical differences to difference colors of same string. However different gauges play ofcourse different.

Probably more power with sgut cross, but less spin potential too. Why would you use the yonex spin string if you dont want maximum spin?
Why dont you lower the tension to 24 or 23kg?

I tried the PTP 1.25 strung at 52 in a K90. Agree with the folks here, in the first few sessions the string felt awesome. Very comfortable on the arm. Opponent commented on how much more spin my shots had. Pretty good feel as well.

However, after a few hitting sessions, the tension seems to have dropped off a LOT (RT gives me a reading of 30-34 right now) and my strokes are now flying way out. I got this because I was told it retains tension quite well. Having never played with a poly before, I don't know if ~10 hours of play for a poly is considered good at holding tension, so maybe my expectations were incorrect to begin with.
that is correct and it's actually a good value for a full bed of poly. With Alu Power Rough you do not get more than 3-4h of tension maintenance.

I love Yonex strings. And PTGP is my favorite one too. I love the pocketing feeling it has and the price and the tension maintenance and the power and comfort and feel. <3
I usually play with the 125 version but want to try the 120 too.
I tried it as a cross with TF X1 and it was a disaster. Not slick enough. If you want to hybrid with Yonex then better go with PT Fire, it's extremely slick.
I string it at 26kg (57lbs) but as I read here I should go much lower than that.

I've been loving PTP, but it's been breaking really quickly on me. Can anyone recommend a round string with similar playing characteristics that's a bit more durable?

TWU has the 17g listed at a 189 stiffness and the 16L listed at 181. Is the 16L really softer? It doesn’t make much sense

The 1.25 yellow PTP is softer than the 1.20 yellow PTP. The 1.20 bites the ball more, has a higher launch angle, and appears to put more RPM on the ball. The 1.25 lets you take bigger cuts and is significantly lower powered.

@gutfeeling Thank you! I just don’t get how a string in a thicker gauge is softer than it’s thinner counterpart. I don’t know of a single other string where that is true, thicker is usually always stiffer right?

Not necessarily, it really depends on the particular string and brand. Different gauges and colors of the same string can have different compositions/formulations and additives. They may also have different degrees of prestretching. String stiffness is typically measured by applying a pulling force to the string, however certain strings may respond differently than you would expect when you apply a force perpendicular to the string, similar to when the stringbed deflects when it makes contact with the ball.

It’s been a while since I played with PTP, but strung my CX200+ up with yellow 1.25 yesterday and played for a few hours today.

Great string, especially fond of the predictability. Also above average feel and spin in my opinion. It does seem light in weight compared to other poly strings of the same gauge, but didn’t put it on a scale so I might be wrong.

Anyway, if it lasts I will buy more. Is the black very different from the yellow btw?

Nice. Just got a 1.30 strung. Looking forward to testing it out tonight.
PTP bags out too quickly on me so hopefully strike is better in that regard.

Tension maintenance is one of the key features of strike. It’s the 4G / Ice Code of Yonex but more soft on contact and with better feel imo.
