Yonex RDiS 100 Mid 93 Sq In

Just hit with the Yonex RDiS 100 Mid (93 Sq In) today for about 2 hours.

I was fully surprised by how solid this racquet is. It felt better than my K90s to me. I did switch between them to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me and they both had different strings on them, but the RDiS felt so great.

Anyone else experience this? Now I gotta seriously try this racquet and get a satisfactory amount of time with it to deal with any doubts I have.

Anyone else try this stick and / or experience the same or different thing?

I play with this racquet. I think that it feels stiff, but comfortable. It doesn't have the same amount of flex as say the RDS 001 mp, but still maintains good stability, comfort and control. There is also a surprising amount of power available.

RDiS came with a stiffer frame but with a lighter SW - you can feel crisp and power which each shot. Frame is stable but I like the RDS001 better.

RDS001 Mid offers the opposite - heavier SW and a tad less stiff frame. Power is there but offers much more spin to the ball.

I was thinking of adding led on the RDiS to increase SW -but since I just got this recently. I don't like to make modifications immediately. I might experiment on changing the string tension first before I add led to it.

Restrung the RDis - 58 on main / 56 cross. The frame stiffness feel and tinny sound have improved.
After playing for a couple of hours with the RDiS - Found the RDiS to be SW way too light; totally threw off my timing. I am disappointed as this is the only Yonex frame that plays and feels very different. I am definitely going to be adding some lead on the frame.

I prefer heavier SW frame, K90 plays much better thant he RDiS.

I strung up 2 of my buddy's RDiS 100 mid with a thin aramid/poly hybrid and we hit for a while. I grabbed one of his frame and briefly hit his frame. He didn't have any modifications other than a single layer of Supergrap. Also, his grip is a 1/4 which is too small for me.

My first reaction: WOW... nice spin and an overall crisp feel. SW is a bit low for my liking but it felt great.

In D Zone, you may want to check this thread out by tennis_balla : http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=248893 He seems to do a fair amount of customization to his RDiS Mid and it's a pretty informative review from someone who seems to have accomplished a smoother transition to the racquet than others, including myself. As I recall, his previous stick was leaded up as well. On the other hand, I decided to keep my RDiS Mid stock after experimenting with lead. My own perception of the RDiS seems to mirror yours somewhat. To me, it seems lighter than spec and the racquet head seems to come around very fast indeed. I find that the timing issues seem to take care of themselves if I'm playing someone that hits on the rise or with a lot of pace. However, on anything from a normal groundstroke to a sitter, I have to consciously slow myself down or I'll be taking the ball too early. In stock form, I really love serving with the RDiS Mid. The ability to accelerate the racquet head through the ball with the RDiS has enabled me to really start cranking on the serve again --- something that I had shied away from for awhile because of age. I've found good spin with the RDiS, especially on ground strokes. The ability to accelerate through the ball helps here, again, but I, too, often have difficulty with the timing. I have elected, for the time being, to try and work on my timing with the RDiS, as its' overall playability seems to be worth the investment. I currently have mine strung with Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour at 60 lbs. Good luck with your efforts to fine tune the RDiS and please keep us posted. I'd be interested to read about the results.

Sorry, my bad In D Zone, just noticed you had seen tennis_balla's thread. Still interested in hearing how your experience with the RDiS works out. A good stick, I think, but for most it would seem, one that either needs adjusting, or adjusted to. Cheers!

How does the Rdis 93" compare to SRD tour 90 and MP-1 Tour 90?

BIG difference is the SW!

SRD90 to MP1 90 and RDS001 90 are very close in feel and weight. No problem switching around these 3. If you are used to the heavier SW then you'll definitely feel the RDiS sw is way too light.

I know RDiS stiffer frame shots were crisp. RDiS reminded me when I first played the Diablo Tour 90 - good power but found the control to be lacking. Adding lead on the frame has helped improved the SW to my liking. I am doing the same to the RDiS.

More update to come - I mod the RDis last night. Weather permitting I plan to play with it later today or some time very soon.

A little OT : do you think it's worth a new MP-1 Tour 90" at 69 euros?

I liked everything except the wieght distribution. To me, it felt like there was not nearly enough mass in the head. Maybe it could be fixed with lead. Besides that I did enjoy hitting with it

SRD Tour 90
359 gram
9.6 pts Head light
327 SW

RDiS100
343 gram
8 pts Head light
325 SW

In order to replicate the SRD (my favourite stick)
you would need to either:

add 1gram at 3/9
leather grip trimmed to add 9gram in the handle
RDiS100 (modded for balance and SW)
353 gram
9.6 pts Head light
327 SW

or
add 4gram at 3/9
leather grip trimmed to add 12 gram in the handle
RDiS100 (modded for total weight and balance)
359 gram
9.6 pts Head light
332 SW

SRD is still a lot more flexible

InD Zone, looking forward to your report on lead......

By the way, all other yonexes (or is it Yonexi?) have a different weight and balance, depending on the handle size. IE a 4 5/8 has more material in the pallet, and hence had a higher total weight, and was more HL than a 4 1/4 in the same model range.
ANyone know if this is the case with the RDiS range? My suspicion is that is.

Stules, what if I wanted it to be weighted, like the Super RD Tour 95? Also I used to string my RD Tours at 68 lbs...but am thinking that that the RDIS 001 may be too stiff for this tension range...any stringing suggestions...strings and or lbs. strung?

A little OT : do you think it's worth a new MP-1 Tour 90" at 69 euros?

Can't advise you about the price - no familiar with the prices in Europe. I know find a new MP 1 Tour 90 is pretty hard to find these days.

If you like mid, I think the MP 1 tour 90 is a great racquet.

What strings are yall using?

In)Spire - how do you like the tension on the RDiS?

I had mine strung with Klip Legend on the main 58 lbs. and PSGD 17g X @56lbs. Played for 4-6 hours and the Klip Legend string is starting to fray.

I am thinking of restrunging it with Premier Ace on the main and SPiral Flex at X maybe dropping the tension at 56 (main)/ 54 (cross).

I felt as if I could go a bit lower. The RDiS plays really firm. Firmer than I expected. I'm gonna go pretty low on my next stringjob. Maybe around 50-55.

I just modded the poly in my hybrid for my 2 RDiS 100 Mids... using Tecnifibre Pro Red Code 17 in the crosses and X-1 Biphase in the mains... at 63#. THe red and natural look awesome in the red frame... but more importantly, it plays very well. I think I like the Signum a bit more than the Pro Red Code... but it's close.

Adding the lead at 3 and 9 definitely has made the RDiS play much betta suited to my needs. SW has increased much better control on my shots.

I decided to adjust the tension on the string - going with poly on main at 52lbs and cross at 54lbs. I was in the middle of stringing when the crank on my stringer broke. I am bringing the RDiS to my local pro shop to have it restrung.

Sorry to go off topic. Anyone compared the headsize between RDiS 100 Mid and RQiS 1 Tour? I had them side by side, the headsize were virtually the same, in fact the 100 Mid even has a wider hoop than the RQIS 1! If someone could do one of those headsize scans (KPS88 vs K90 thread) for both, it's possible the 100 Mid might actually be bigger than 93sq.in.

How about a comparison between the 'bumperless KPS88' and the RQiS 93.

I haven't played the RQiS. Bumperless KPS88 is a nice rig, so is the B-Less K90 and PSTour90... helps to 'get over the top a bit faster'

I don't get it. According to the specs, the RDS 001 and the RDiS 100 have essentially the same weight and SW.

Both are totally different frames.

Points of differences: frame stiffness (68 vs 65); head frame (20mm vs 18mm); string pattern 16x20 vs 16x18 ; 8 vs 10 pt head light.

Only specs that are close are the weight and sw.

Feel: RDiS you can feel the feedback of the ball; similar to Diablo Tour and KBlade tour. You can feel it on your shoulder and arms after a couple of hours hitting. RDS is much softer feel. I've drop the tension down on the RDiS which felt much better.

First two hits with the RDis 100 mid (strung with Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro @ 55lbs) and it felt way too stiff. Last two sets I've played with it and it feels much better and more responsive. Just a heads up for people thinking about a purchase - don't give up on it after the first hit.

AHH! finally found the right tension for my RDis to complement my game. It got validated by winning 3 sets : 6-2;6-3; 6-2 - singles matched yesterday against an opponent which we would normally split the set.

Good to hear you found the right string/tension combo! So, how does the racquet play? Is it still stiff compared to the rds 001 mid? Is it better in any way?

Yes - it is still stiffer than RDS001; RDiS is definitely stiffer than K90 or the Diablo Tour mid. Lower tension make the frame much easier to play.

What's better?
I'd say offers better control; almost pin point accuracy. I muted out the pinging sound coming from the frame and just focused on my stroke. I was surprised that I was serving really well - not overpowering but was moving my serve around with variety (flat, slice, kick and topspin) and great placements. Power is also there (lower tension) - feel that I can hit my shots with much more authority; I can turn it on and off at will. One great improvement I noticed was my slice. I am able to slice the ball long and low to the corner or aggressively chip a slice dtl while the opponent is camping on the ad side.

The added lead made the sw higher which helped made the RDis much more stable - great for defensive shot or counterpunching against aggressive shots.

ANYONE else wanted to chime in ?

Need to hear from you guys who are playing or demo the RDiS.

I hope my prior posts did not push away prospective RDiS players from owning this beautiful frame.

I wanted to set the record straight - RDiS might be the most stiffest frame Yonex has produced. Since guys like me don't have much experince playing stffer frame; it does require some experimentation on the string set up and tension.

I have retrung my RDis multiple times and has been vocal about the challenges I have encountered. Since I have finally found the specs to my liking - I can honestly tell you I've been a big fan of RDiS 100 93.

RDiS ROCK!

I have hit with it and I find it to be too light, it swings easer than some of the 11.0ish oz frames I have hit in the past. I found my timing was way way off like some of the other posters. On the plus side I do agree that this may be one of the best serving Yonexs to date the racquet head speed you can generate is silly. My ground strokes were way off with this raquet. I could either hit the fence or I could put some ok spin on the ball and it would land at or around the service line. usually I have no difficulty using my normal stick putting them in the back half of the swamp without any difficulty. I just really really struggled with thise one. I still think the rds 002 tour is the best one on the market now---Not too mention if you hold it in your hands the frame is really thick, but it swings light-- overall it would probably be better with a little lead and maybe a leather grip.

Just generic commments that Yonex rackets generally play better with lead on the head at 3 and 9 and that they respond better when strung lower than other frames. If you don't like a Yonex at first, try these two mods.
