Yonex RDS 002 Mini Review

I finally got a chance to hit with my new RDS 002 for a couple of hours tonight and I have to say I was really surprised how well it played. It's a bit light at stock, but after stringing it, replacing the grip with a Gamma Hi-Tech, and adding an overgrip and vibration dampener, it feels pretty substantial at about 11.5 oz. I found it extremely maneuverable with just the right amount of power. It's very spin friendly on both ground strokes and kick serves. At net it was very easy to get around and volleys felt quite solid. I think this racquet gets overshadowed by the RDS 003, but IMHO it's a better racquet overall. It offers about the same amount of power and spin, but is quite a bit more maneuverable. It also seems to be a pretty good platform racquet for those who like to add weight. If you're considering a tweener or light players racquet, I'd highly recommend not overlooking this one. Now if only I could get my hands on the black and white Japanese version I'd be really happy. :)

Can you please explain your reasons for the Gamma Hi-Tech? Also, did it make it more headlight?

Are there ways to get the black/white version here in the U.S.?

I usually put a Hi-Tech grip on all my racquets and then put a Gamma Supreme overgrip on top of that. It's just the grip combo that I've come to prefer. The Hi-Tech is dense, flat and firm while the Supreme overgrip is tacky and super comfy for my hand. The extra weight does make the balance a bit more head light, but that's ok with me. I usually prefer a balance of 7 or 8 points HL. Unfortunately, the black 002 is only available in Japan. I would order one, but it would cost me about $300 after shipping and that's just too much. It sells for about 27,000 Yen over there.
