Anyone here actually go from the old paint job to the new one? Any noticable difference? I have 4 of the original ones and now I think i need another.

i have hit with both... and do not notice a difference in feel.

the rds 2008 model has a nicer looking PJ though..

go with whatever one you think looks best.

May I join the club? I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE THIS RACQUET!!!! I'll get a pic of me playing with it as soon as I buy some batteries for my camera!!! I just switched from the Wilson Surge, to this Yonex because its DA BOMB!!!

Hey there all... I'm in with 4 RDS-001 Mids, 2 older PJ, 2 New.
Absolutely love these... in fact, my K90's are in the bag in favor of the RDS-001's.

Only issue I have is that I hate Yonex butt caps... not enough flare. Anyone put a Wilson Butt Cap on a Yonex? Any fit/size issues?

so you came back to the rds 001? what made you come back to the light side?

also... how do you like the new 001 pj

Well I wouldn't call 343g light... but yes, a little under the K90. I do love the 001. the new PJ is much nicer, more 'tame' and doesn't feel like you are trying to blind your opponent (hmmmmmmm...)

At any rate, these sticks are very nice, good power, control, spin... nothing missing IMO. EXCEPT THE STUPID BUTT CAP... not flared enough... just ordered some Wilson Butt Caps to replace on my 001's.

i see.

do you notice any difference in playability between the 08 and the old ones?

i do not really notice a difference at all.

also.. do you use a dampener? for some reason i cannot stand the rds 001 with a dampener.

i've been playing w/ the Babolat APDC for about 6 months now and I finally am playing good tennis with it.
I am really kicking my serves up and hitting a lot of aces too now... it took a while for me to find my groove with this since I was used to 10pt HL sticks before. But it finally clicked and now it is easy to spin it or slam it.
My forehand is a spin machine that SO MANY people just WATCH it land at their feet thinking it was going to go long. I am getting tons of topspin and sometimes I feel unstoppable.
But my backhand is still not great, and it is annoying to have to restring constantly with polyester strings.

So.... I bought 2 new RDS001 mids. Dunno why really, but I think I will try our both styles of racquet over the next 6 months and then make a final decision. I have been going back and forth between tweeners and players frames without keeping both around.
I had the 002Tour for a while, but I felt sluggish with it.
With the APDC, my forehand is 15-20% better right away.
I love the solid feel and predictable response from the YY, but the power and spin from the Babolat can also be fun to blast away on the court.
So... I will post as I do my extended playtest.
I've moved up from playing a bunch of scrubs to playing 4.5 guys that really bring heat, so if the YY can stay in rallies, I REALLY want to switch back to save my arm from all poly. Mentally, I become more of an attacking all courter when using the 001 and prefer the baseline with the APDC.
So I have some decisions to make.....
So far:

SPIN SERVES = APDC
FLAT SERVES = 001
FOREHAND = APDC
BACKHAND = 001
Volleys & Overheads: used to be clear win for 001, but getting more comfortable with APDC every day... EVEN

can you please help me

i know you guys would understand cause you guys love the yonex rds 001,
but i currently have the babolat puredrive roddick standerd and i love the fact that it had a powerful serve, my fastest ever was 110 mph and average is 100 mph, but besides that everytthing sucks now, i think i out grew the racket cause my fore hands would end up out of the court, and overhands and everything else, i have tried the wilson k blade tour and too me it was ok, i now like mid heads because they have awsome control, so i wanted to get another racket, my choices are the head microgel prestige mid, and it sems ok because the swing weight is close to the roddick and the review said it was a good racket for serving but i also am looking to get the yonex mid 001 2008 model, it looks so cool, has a 90 inch headsize, the only problem is its a very low powered racket, and although i had too much power with the roddick, its still suicide to go from that drop of power, also i wanna keep my serve high i like that so will the yonex ruin my serve, or will it make it better, so what should i go with the yonex or the head racket

hmmm

wait what if i buy the yonex rds 001 mid but add lead tape to 12, 11 and 1 and 10 and 2, what would that do to the racket

nervermind

sorry to waste your time but i finally figured it out
i figure that since i came from a powerfully racket i decided to buy the yonex rds001 mid but with lots of lead tape
and i will tape up the top half with lots of tape
but as i progress ill ease up the tape or just let the tape fall on its own and then ill be good with it at no time
thats what i love about this racket its like a teacher when i demoed it
if you swing wrong or serve wrong, it will let you down but if you do it right
it should be the most rewarding experience ever
the only question i have now is if you guys ever tried babolat hurricane pro tour, technifibre pro red, or yonex poly tour 125 and 130, which one gives the yonex rds mid the best preformence with the best durability?

I'm joining the Yonex RDS001 MID club! Although I'm actually looking for a MP also.

I like the 2008 version, but if it plays like the old PJ...then should I still get one? LOL.

Despite what some others will tell you--- the 08 version and the old paint job play IDENTICAL.

The only reason some posters may find a difference is because there older PJ ones have a few years of use, and when demoing the new 001, it obviously is going to feel a bit different. Frames lose stiffness over time.

This is 100% correct. I demoed the 2008 version a couple of weeks ago and the only difference I could tell may very well have been the string tension (the demos are strung at mid tension; I do mine way below the minimum).

Anyway, I ordered one of the 2008 models. Excited about adding to my collection!

Happy to join the Yonex family after years of using Wilson(last one k6.1-95).

I should bought it years ago when I tried from a friend, but was too stuck up with Wilson at that moment. One of the major reason for me its not just how good its the racquet, but price makes a difference too.

I cant waste $200 every time Wilson decide to paint their racquets.

So hail to YONEX, for quality and price!!!

Never thought to join this thread back when I thought seriously about switching to the 001 mid for a couple months this summer. Now I'm actually looking to offload mine!

Never could really click with this one, although I really wanted to.

i have a Japan version of the RDS001 Mid - will try to post the pictures somehow...

dont know how to do it at the moment...

i believe some pple on this forum should know the differences in the label - it has "Gunmetal" written on the throat

Nab ching:
do u japan version of 001 , feel and play different with other version , like sp or us ??

the japan version feels the same, they are essentially the same frame so i guess i shouldnt feel any difference...

maybe they are supposed to be slightly different, but not big enough for me to feel the difference for them. i feel the same for both the 06 and 08 version , but i happened to like the total yellow cosmetic more, starting to fell in love with yellow frame racquets :)

What Yonex racquets do you have FISH? are you going to post pictures of them?

Nab , so u got same feeling for 001 (total yellow) and (black and yellow ) and jp version ..
For me, i found usa version of 001(black+yellow) is softer and more comfortable than total yellow one.

i got 5 yy , 2 rdis , 1 001(90), 1001 (2008 version ) and rqis 1 .
but sorry that i don't know how to post the photo here. would u teach me ? thanks:)

Cant really feel any difference between them maybe because they have diff strings setup so i cant attribute any differences to the frame

wow great you have the RDIS, i also have the RQIS 1

Yonex RDS001 Mid

I also have three of these frames. Great serving stick! Am soon to be moving into the seniors so although I can still hit well with it, just too demanding at my current conditioning to play over a long tournament.

Yonex makes outstanding frames, the RDS001 mid is a shining example of a well crafted samurai sword :-) Been looking at a number of replacements as well. So far the Wilson Kobra Tour, Babolat Aero Storm (cortex) and Head Prestige MidPlus (all with Babolat RPM) are leading contenders...

I hope we can have a choice of replacement for the RDS 001 mid, unlikely as far as I know now.

Are you gonna change to these above??
Try the new URD Ti 80 Light, RDiS 200, 100 and 300.
These are better than those you mentioned, I can guarantee you.
In my case I will not use other racket besides Yonex, even though the ones they are making now are not what I am looking for, so I will stick with the RDS mid.
Another one I love is the RQiS 1 Tour.

Thanks BH,

I also have a love affair with Yonex frames...all the way back to the OPS metal frames, R22, MP Tour 1 and now RDS001... Am looking for a forgiving, flexible stick and will look at the models you mentioned...

Much appreciated!

Does anyone know if there is a weight difference between a 4 3/8 grip and a 4 1/4 grip? Some Yonex rackets like the 002 have specs that show a difference between grip sizes. Something Yonex calls UL and SL.

First post and a proud Yonex owner. I have 2 RDS 001 MP's and will likely pick up a 3rd one. I've been changing strings more often than I should and am ready to settle on one for a while. Since I neverbreak a string, I was thinking about using gut. Has anyone tried using gut in the RDS 001's? What did you think?

If you don't break strings you can use full gut around 60Lbs to start, then you can move up and down the tension as you need.
I have played with the Wilson Champ's Choice, which is the same hybrid Fed, Djoker, Murray and many others use, and it was awesome.

Thanks, I'll start with gut at 60lb and go from there. I'll also check out the Champ's Choice.

Question on the Yonex serial #'s. I know the first 5 digits are the manufacture date and the letters are for the ship to country. What does the 6th number mean?

Example 120583US = made 05-12-08 for United States...what does the 3 mean?

Thanks!

Maybe L3, or the number os rackets made, or something, i have no clue.

Wow, what an amazing racquet!! I should have made the switch away from the Ksurge last year when I first bought these. I have a whole new volley game and my kick serve really kicks. The guy in the ad court couldn't do anything but watch it spin off his racquet and go wide. It's solid off the ground, but I have a lot more work to do myself in order to get the most out of it.

Question about switching to gut. Will I lose spin, gain spin or stay the same compared to the strings I am using now. BTW, not using a hybrid. The strings listed below are full on in each racquet.

You'll lose spin and ball bite when comparing with the Solinco and it will probably be the same as the other one.
the ideal would be Solinco on crosses with either one on mains. Try this set up as well.

I have the Yonex string in both now. I "thought" I liked it based on the first racquet, but new set gave me some arm issues. Maybe it needs to play in. I'm going to give it a few more times on court and then go with all gut or a gut hybrid

I just bought a RDX 500 PLays like a dream :3

I must say, I have used the RDX 500 before, put it aside since 2006 since I switched to the RDS001 which I have been using up to present. Lately I have been thinking of getting a bit more powerful racket and been waiting for reviews on the Vcores and maybe demo it. Last week I dug up my old rackets just for haha, restrung my RDX500 mid and wow..................groundies are awesome. It's just a better and more comfortable racket to swing than the RDS. My only complaint is the serves, I think the RDS gets a nod at a better serving racket. So I am stringing up 2 of my old RDXs and give it another go. It's making me smile lately...............only downside is they are out of stock.

Ayone still using the RDS001 mids? I'm thinking of getting one, and can you compare it to a Volkl C10 Pro?

Anybody have more than this? Show 'em!
Dang if I can't find more CLEAR dampeners... sigh.
How you like the NBF3????
48mr8g5.jpg

Actually i do own 4 of them too...
What do i win? How do i become a member of this club?
tried many setups but still trying to find a cheap setup to my liking.Any ideas?
also other customisation ideas welcome
