YONEX Super tour 850 and super tour 850pro, Best multifilament ever ?

Recently i tried a Yonex string cause i was forced to try them. They came on a TW demo, RQIS tour-1 and tour-2. I always hated yonex strings, and felt that they were way behind Technifibre, Gamma, and Wilson in making multifilament strings. But with this recent Nylon multifilament called super tour 850 and 850pro, they may made the best multifilament ever. I tried the super tour 850 and i thought it was a NATURAL GUT THAT PRODUCED LUXILON LIKE SPIN. I was very surprised to find out that it was a Yonex multifilament string. I had never used a multifilament string with this good of control and produced poly like spin.:)

I string this at around 60 lbs give or take a pound on a Yonex RDS 001 Mid. I have not tried it out yet but plan on doing so in the next few weeks. Right now I am play-testing Pro Hurricane 17g with both Prince SynGut w/ Duraflex, and Prince Premiere w/ Softflex before I try out the Super Tour 850 in the crosses.

When I first bought my RDS 001 Mid's (bought them the first week they were available) I played with a full set of Super TOUR 850 for a while and loved the way it felt - it just broke a little too often for me so I'm coming back to give it another try, but only in the crosses. I hope the Pro Hurricane doesn't notch or break the Yonex string too badly/quickly.

I was just wondering about the spin i was getting. it was kind of strange that it was giving me as much spin as the polys.

I have used this string and they are one of the best multi. IMO as every multis, tension loss is very noticeable as compared to NRG2.

Give 850pro a try, if you like the spin.

This has been my experience as well. These strings do not move nearly as much as other multis for me. It might be the spin coating they put on it. I never tried Super 850, but I found 850 Pro to be a nice firm multi with good spin production and tension maintenance. I just wish they made it in thinner gauges.

I just have to wonder if these yonex strings will work well in a hybrid format with polys like Pro Hurr tour and such. I know strings like Tech X-1 biphase has proven itself in the playtests with polys like Luxilon and pro hurr tour and such but How does yonex strings work out with polys.?

I would very interested in knowing if they can last with as cross with poly main like SPPP.

Any idea as to the durability when compared to NXT Max 16 ?

i think yonex string will lose tension more quickly than SPPP. I did notice some tension loss with yonex string. it didn't affect my play however

I used Yonex 850 for a while while my brotha used Wilson NXT. He was pissed off when he finally tried the 850 because it was exactly like NXT only the 850 had better spin, more feel, more comfort, more control, lower price and about a million times better durability. LOL he hates Wilson now, says he can't trust them.

Seeing the popularity of nxt, it seems even the smart tennis people can't avoid the power of big corp marketing

Yonex makes the best everything, even shuttle cocks

Haha, what a coincidence... I used the same RQiS 1 demo from TW too :p I also thought that it was a decent string, but I didn't like it with the racquet (wasn't my type of racquet).

Yonex string seem to work better with stiffer rackets like tour-2, it was a perfect string for that racket. but i do agree it doesn't work as well with tour-1

There's a string called Yonex 'ATG 850 Pro' that came in my RDX 300s and it has a wonderfull soft feel to it. Do any of the new strings compare to it?

i was just amazed with the control these string has. i don't know how they do it. what is the secret of japanese engineering.?

I am wondering the same thing... I have never used a multi before, but wouldn't mind trying one as a cross with my Cyber Flash. I've been using Prince Synthetic Gut W/Duraflex, but wouldn't mind something "better" if the sacrifice in durability isn't huge. What's the verdict?

There's an interesting customer review of this stuff on TW->

"I stung my Yonex RQS11 with this at 60 lbs and did not like it at all. The string has too much feel to it and lots of extra top spin is added. I already had a lot of top spin on my shots. I did like that the tension held up until the stings broke, which was in 7 days of playing for 2 hours a day. I guess I will try other stings for this racquet."

I agree. This is a great string. I used this string a few years ago and then played with X-1 Biphase, NXT, TF515 and Klip Excelerator. I have gone back to the 850. It's tough to find a string with the combination of power, feel, spin the 850 has. In terms of durabiity it is ok. The first set on my latest racquet lasted about 18 hours of play. I am not a string breaker. I put in NRG2 as crosses for the second set to tame the power a bit and I have about 36 hours of play on them. I think I have 8-10 hours of play left on them. Don't know why this is happening but I am not complaining.

I had tried the 850 super in my volkl. For the price you can't beat but I found it did not have the feel and pocketing of NXT. It did have more pop and durability when compared to Live Wire.

For hybrid set up I found it really doesnot matter on which string you use for a cross for multi filament. They tend to play the same and have the same durability as a cross string. The difference you find is in Natural gut, multi and regular synthetic guts. Some of the regular sythetic play a good as a multi in a hybrid setup.

Fedace, I just wanted to see if you've used those racquets before. You mentioned that you tried those Yonex strings when they showed up in some demo frames and I'd figure that some of the great performance must have come from the sticks. It seems for me that strings only dial in an already good racquet, but it sure is a subjective issue. Lately I've found that a lively multi in a frame with a little more flex can be just deadly.

I had a set of Yonex 850 Pro come in one of a pair of RDS 002 Tours that I traded for and it was a pretty solid multi with no signs of wearing over the half dozen or so outings I had with it. I eventually cut it out along with the PSGD that came in the other one so that I could match them up - both came with stringbeds that were too loose for me to play under control. As a hybrid cross, I'd expect this string's durability to be fine, but I'd also expect most multi's to do about the same job in that role.

Just got my RqIs 1 tour strung with the SPPP Main at 54 and 850 Pro at 60 for the crosses and hit with it for about 2 hours.

850 Pro plays great in a hybrid, good control and feel. Hopefully these strings are atleast as durable as NXT Max.

If they do hold up, then they are a steal at almost half the price as NXT Max.
