Yonex VCore Pro 97 HD review...

Looks like they changed the molds, from the leaks I've seen around.
Staryfire can comment better on a subject and these new VCore Pro will be available earlier for demoing in AUS.

I'm not demoing anything in the lockdown, sadly.

I was offered but that offer was retracted when the state closed all non-essential retail.

I would argue that a tennis shop is essential but then again I'm not the government. :p

One of the reasons I moved from People's Republic of California to beautiful FREE state of Florida.
Governor Ron DeSantis is the MAN, nothing is closed, no lockdowns, no mask mandates, no vaccine passports and other BS!

To avoid derailing the thread I'm just happy that I can play singles while other sports are shut, but unfortunately, it means no demos for me.

I'm sure others in different places of the world will give you all a rundown on how it plays sooner than I.

Hello Yonex QC.

Yeah though I only held one of the new ones, I feel blindly confident I’ll/I’d want to stick to this one. It might partially be the coloring but I’m generally not one to get too affected my it. Though I guess it is better than the VCORE 2021 line. Definitely don’t like that coloring. But if the beam is thicker, I heard 21 instead of 20, which isn’t too big a deal, I don’t know. I think a thicker beam will serve the 330 really well but not sure about the HD/D.

Had a session with my coach just now, and I hit pretty well today, so I think it partially was a matter of breaking in (? If applicable?) the strings and/or adjusting to the change. When I was younger I wasn’t this sensitive when it came to strings. Maybe it’s... adult neurosis.

If you look at the string pattern/spacing of the 97 18x20 and the 100 16x19, they seem more similar in the crosses. The bottom cross in particular is situated low in the hoop, compared to the 97 16x19 where the bottom cross is much higher. I've found with the 97 16x19 there's more string movement and often my dampener will fall out on a hard shot.

I have a fix for you, cortado https://ibb.co/ySM5k99
I'm passing on these fugly looking VCores anyways... Apart from horrific PJ, HD is so freaking good in all aspects so why mess with perfection and change the molds?!
I remember how two years ago everyone complained about dark green/gold PJ of VCPs and Yonex said "hold my beer for 2021, folks" :)
I love REV in purple btw, gotta buy a set or two to try 'em out!

I was thinking more I don't understand why the crosses have to start so high up the racquet face on the 97 16x19? I think the 18x20 feels so good because the crosses are much more evenly spread across the racquet face.

I'm more turned off by the 332 swingweight. I can just barely swing 326.

That's why I don't use any lead on mine. If Yonex really wanted to tempt me they'd reduce SW to say 322 or something.

Also side note: who is going to be able to swing the new 330 with a 338 SW? RF97A is "only" 330 SW.

Head Gravity Pro is 332, Speed Pro is 329, PT 2.0 is 335, Blade V7 18x20 is 334, and my BP 16x19 was 343 stock (now 354 after mods)... so it's not that much more than lots of others. More will come down to how the weight is distributed within the frame. If it's like the Tour G, then it will be more challenging, but time will tell.

Where does it say 332 swing weight?
I've had no problem with 326 (assuming mine is on spec) I actually added 1g each side between top cross and the cross below (so roughly 10 and 2).

Ah sorry just seen on tennis-only.
That sounds perfect to me if I can get some on spec. No need to add lead!

So the new D is thicker, clumsier, stiffer, with higher SW and ugly[ier] than HD. Kinda triple NO-NO-NO from me. And I can swing 345-350 no problem!
I'm definitely going to try it. I think with on-spec swing-weight and theoretically just a touch stiffer it could be my perfect racquet.

The only changes that pique my curiosity are whatever blah-blah they’ve done to the throat but aside from that, I feel like the more I hear, the less appealing the 97D sounds. I think the one that’ll feel [notably] improved is the 97H, but I’m speaking from a I-don’t-know-what-I-am-talking-about viewpoint.

I wonder why the 97D is more expensive than the others, though...

I would like too see the reviews he does. I am using the 97HD 18X20. It will be interesting to see if the " improved" version is really improved. So tired of the hype form all the racquet, string, and shoe manufacturers with their " improved' versions of their products when they are usually a big " nothing". When it is all tested out.

Tennis nerd review video is up and he thinks the HD version is the least improved of the new VCP lineup, seems to allude that it’s not an improvement at all actually.

It looks like 18x20 (HD) is out of Vcore Pro line tho  There will be just two really fugly looking thick and stiffer models with awkwardly long throat both 16x19 at 310 and 330g. I'll pass and hopefully will be able to grab one more HD at discounted price to have 4 sticks, they will last for a while since I play only on clay now.
BTW, I removed all tape and extra weight from all 3 of my HDs and just use small vibro killers and Tourna dry overgrips [with Head Hydrosorb Pro grips]. Man, oh man, HD is really one frame you can use and enjoy completely in stock form. Last time I had such a feeling was like 15 years ago with Yonex RDS001 Tour 93, 325g. I was playing only on clay back then too.

Comments are saying H = 330 and D = the 18x20 so it’ll now be called a 97D

Tennis Nerd reacted to the innovate HD/D favourably last year, and less favourably this year simply because it's more of the same. He liked the lighter frame more mainly because he got a high SW exemplar.

I think what has me more interested is the new lavender color option for the Poly Tour Rev, which is a string I’ve been curious about. :p

He said that it was 4-5SW more than the TW spec of 332 which is bad enough. So that means 336-337 SW on his frame. Ouch.

I cannot swing that. Pass.

310 looks like the pick for me in the 2021 generation.

TW has revised the SW for the 330g (H) up to 343 from 338... and the 320g (D) down to 330 from 332.

If the VCP 97H ends up having a 343 SW, much will depend on the material distribution. It has the potential to be a real beast.

Well... we always go on about how we want racquets that are similar to the Pros. I guess Yonex is challenging us on that front... it might not be the 95D... but it might have Stan-like specs... GAME ON!

Paint Job looks pretty vintage on the new Vcore racquets - definitely my kind of style! The modern paint jobs of Wilson, Babolat etc as of late just don’t gell with me.

Nope, HD ment High Density. That's why nothing changed spec wise - or maybe a slightly more open 18x20?
The specs are actually different, it’s a new mold: thicker, stiffer and with higher SW and redesigned throat/handle. And yes, 18x20 pattern looks more open on new D.

I was saying that static weight did not change even if the "H" was removed from the "HD" because "H" ment high
The only correlation beteween the new nomenclatura and the actual racquet should be a slighlty more open string pattern

All this talk of Tennisnerd not liking the new D as much as the previous HD, he didn't really like the HD either. His review was pretty meh for that one.
I think an HD with slightly higher swing-weight sounds great.
He's playing like 4.0 level, what are you expecting?! You gotta be a beast to properly swing 340+ SW frames...

Interesting. They all prefer this one to the regular 310, while tennisnerd didn't care for the D

That's why it's important to try the racquet for yourself. Nobody is right or wrong about any racquet, they are just telling you their opinion (which is 100% right for them). It may match your impressions and findings or it may differ. That still doesn't make the racquet good or bad... just right for you or wrong for you.

It's all personal.

Or... one was lucky with SW Quality control and another not so much :)

I think you missed what I was trying to say... but that's OK.

In summary... it doesn't matter what someone else thinks about a racquet (or anything else really), it matters what you (the person trying it) think.
I got you :) of course you are right. Just pointing out that in this case we might be talking about liking specs and not the racquet. You might demo the racquet in a store, then purchase new one and end up disliking „the racquet” because of the specs you got.
Tennisnerd didnt get the chance to really test the racquet.

Yeah, I know... but the feel of the racquet, how it feels in your hands, how you hit your strokes with it, should all be the same. I liked how the 97HD felt when I hit the ball (not as much as the G360+ PMP... but they both had pluses and minuses compared to each other), I liked the flex, I could hit all my strokes with it... it had all the ingredients of a fantastic racquet. But, for me, the balance, the power level, and a few other things were not spot on. However, the core/essence of the racquet was great, I felt it had huge potential, and all the things that were not spot on... could be fixed with a little tinkering. So, I kept the racquet, tinkered, and now I have a fantastic racquet.

The only thing I am curious about with this new 97D is if the feel has improved further. With the 97HD, I can hit all my shots, I can attack, defend, turn defence into offence, and hit touch shots. But... there is a degree of vagueness to the muted feel that means that I need to trust my shots to some degree, rather than completely feeling them. From playing with it for a while, I can know that when I hit my shot in a certain way, it will land where I want it to, but there is a smidge more vagueness than what I would ultimately prefer.

I'm being very picky here, but I can afford to be. I like the 97HD, and if the 97D has improved in this area due to the lengthened throat and the change in throat shape, beam thickness, etc... then I might like it even better. If not, nothing lost, I still have the 97HD, I still have the G360+ PMP (which has a more direct feel), and many other wonderful racquets in my collection.

Happy days.

I agree with what you said here Classic-TXP-IG MID about the 97HD. I just take my shots with the 97HD and let the racquet do the work. I find the racquets that do the best for me, playing in matches, are the ones that are like the 97HD. Hit the ball where you need it to go, not by having to use too much energy and effort to do so. I like a racquet that is demanding yet gives you the results you need. I think you get the results you need with the effort you put forth to hot the ball with when I use the 97HD.
I have some racquets that are fun to hit with , say family members or just hitting around with friends, yet in a match they are not that good. I have just a couple of those around the house. Less demanding and just fun to hit with. Ones that you can give out to people to go out and hit some with you at the local courts.
The 97HD has been a great find among all the racquets out there. I am sort of anxious to see the comments on the 97D but am not anxious to run out and buy one. I will perhaps demo one when I get a chance here in the winter months.

Likewise. I think I will demo the 97D (and maybe the other two) to see how it compares and if the feel has improved that smidge more allowing a bit more connection to the ball.

I'm looking forward to more reviews and hearing people's impressions. I have too many racquets as is, and as the prices are going up, I may look to get this one (if it proves to be significantly better) when it goes on sale in 1.5-2yrs.
