Yonex Vcore Pro 97

Hi Yonex Family,

For those of you who have found the VCP97 to be a bit underpowered, I suggest you give gut mains/ poly crosses a shot. After watching Dom Thiem absolutely murdering the ball against Nadal a couple months ago I had an itch I simply couldn't scratch without trying it. I used some econo-gut with Black Knight in the crosses so defacto I'm assuming it would be even better with a reputable main. Long story short, it played well with a solid feel and may be a solution for those that find the frame a bit underpowered and/or dead. There is definitely some adjustment with technique and launch angle but the ball will definitely have more zip.

Looking to demo the VCore Pro 97 (310g) - currently playing with a Vcore Xi 98 (305). Its a still frame that has a plush feel but playing with isn't sustainable for my forearm. Wondering if the VCP97 would be a good switch. Any comments?

Yes. I switched from Yonex EZONE DR 98. But also depends on your playing style and what you are looking for. Any thoughts?

I have moderately long strokes. My play style is aggressive baseliner I would say - usually like hitting deep topspin balls with the intent of getting a short ball then finishing at the net.

I'll never try poly again.
I play full poly with the Tour G 310g is up to 345g with some lead and OG. It's THE most plush stick, I've never felt any issues in my arm or wrist. When I'm playing indoors and doubles I use the Duel G with same specs, it's noticeably firmer, but still plush.

I could not get into the VCP 310 or 330, it just feels that little bit more flimsy.

I'd suggest finding a Tour G and you will never have any arm issues and will have a frame that feels like you can pocket and really work the ball. It's a dream for OHBH and slice.

You might like it then. My swing speed tends to be on the faster side and felt like the VCORE Pro 97 suits me better than the EZONE DR 98

How do the 310 and the 330 with leather and lead compare to a Pro Staff 90? I'm getting both frames as demos next week but I can't customize demos to my spec. I was hoping some kind people who have played with both the PS90 and a VCORE Pro 97 could chime in.

Anybody know if the current batches of these are still measuring short? I got a VCP 330 as soon as they were released and mine is at least 1/16" short strung. Seemed like kind of a weird anomaly to me since my other Yonex sticks are exactly 27" long strung.

My VCP310 I bought on the first week of release is 27" strung... In contrast my DG310s were a touch over 27" strung.

I know it seems like a bandaid fix but for discrepancies as small as 1/16" you can just offset the buttcap with some balsa wood cut to the shape of the handle.

Eh since it's only 1/16" I'm not that worried about it. Was just curious if it was an issue with the original batches or something.

That's quite aggressive. How do you ppl notice these things other than actually measuring them?

Why dont you measure your racquets unstrung? I m sure stringing could cause deformation therefor lenghtening or shortening of a racquet. And how many mm is 1/16 ", i have no clue?

I measured it strung because it is currently strung and I did it only to provide a measurement for the person I was replying too.

I'm definitely picking a few of the 330s up. The 330g is what the RF97 should have been. Good feel, controllable power, and room for some lead at the hoop without becoming a rocket launcher. I had a nice 20 hour playtest with this stick, 6 with synthetic gut and 14 with my hybrid of Babolat Tonic 16 mains and Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16L crosses. Great access to spin, good depth, easier to flatten out than the RF97 is, and better feel. I haven't gelled with it on the slice yet and am still working out accuracy on the tight margin shots, but this is easily the most impressive midplus racquet I have hit with. It's not a scalpel like my Pro Staff 90, but it's definitely the easiest transition I've had to a midplus frame.

After demoing a lot, i am also picking the Yonex Vcore Pro 97 330g over the RF97. Really happy with the vcore, but i still haven't settled on my string choice.

I'm loving Klip Legend 16 mains with Luxilon 4g Soft 16L crosses @ 58/55 on mine!
That seems like a great discount version of Champions Choice. I take it the 4g lasts longer than Alu Rough and the Klip and 4G kinda go at the same time?

I finally got a stringer so was going to try to replace the Alu Rough once it died but that seems like a hassle.

Also, I got rid of my Vcore Pro 330g and went to a mix of Tour and Duel G 310 and 330. I'm missing the whip feel of the Pro, but liking the stability. I never could get the VCP 330 to feel stable without throwing too much weight on and defeating the purpose. Basically, it seems really flimsy for its weight, do you agree?

Yeah I agree the VCP 330 is less stable than the DG330. However, I don't find it to be enough to make me stop using it. For me the extra spin, lower swingweight and softer flex make up for the lower stability. Most things are a compromise I guess.

Just joined the club last night - usedmy Vpro 310 with a full bed of technifibre biphase. Loved the feeling of the racket reminded me of my old RDiS 100 MP. Switching from a vcore xi 98 since it was so stiff. Took a while during warm up to adjust my groundstrokes but planning on making this my main racquet. Want to use a soft poly (mains) and multi blend (crosses) - any suggestions on tension to start on this racquet? I normally string my polys at 50-52 and multis at 56-57.

Beside the physical specs, what are the main differences bw the 310 and the PS97; or the 330 and the RF97? Eg... Softer, forgiving maneuverability, etc.??

I think the 330 might be too much for singles. TIA!

I’ve done 51/55 for a poly/multi hybrid and worked well for me - got over 30 hours of play on it. But still prefer gut/poly in this frame - at 55/50 now but likely will try 56/48 next time

Yeah I agree the VCP 330 is less stable than the DG330.
That's the only one I do not own. I demoed it and it was way too stiff. I prefer a weighted up Duel G 310. It's plenty stable. With Gut/Lux Rough it's a dream.

What's bonkers is the difference in actual stiffness from the Tour G 310 and 330, the specs say they are 63 but the 310 plays sooooo much more flexy. I can absolutely go hit all out on the OHBD and I feel the stick working for me. The 330 not so much, same with DG310, but they are almost better on every other shot, besides second serves.

I just got my TG330 to 350g @ 9 Pts HL, with OG. Twas really bored and starting drilling holes in the bumper guard, then strung with 18g poly mains and 18g syn gut. It's so much more solid than a weighted up TG310. I still think the RA numbers are way off with both the TGs being 63.

I'd be curious if they change the beam on the next VCP update.

I know it's hard to tell with the weight difference, but how noticeable is the stiffness difference between 310 and 330?

I finished demoing the 330 a week ago and I also hit with the 310 for an hour during that time so take this with a grain of salt. I thought the 330 felt crisper rather than harsher in comparison to the 310 if that makes sense.

I always have a hard time understanding crispness when it comes to rackets, but I think I get what you mean, probably some function of stability/plow through?

Got a local demo of the 330 and I loved it. Similar specs on paper as my ncode 6.1 95. Pretty sure I'll be ordering a pair of them.

My honeymoon period with the 330 is officially over - I finally realised that I objectively play much better with my customised DR98s, and several people I play with told me the same (more or less direct , especially the players better than me). I'm with @anfield on this one; for me the racquet feels not very stable, especially towards the tip, with the weight more towards the throat. This simply does not work well with my kind of strokes (forehand in particular) and with 330 g is not feasible to change that. Going to stick to my DR98s for a while and sell the 330s.

Yeah I feel like the one flaw the VCP330 has is lack of stability relative to its weight. I've heard adding a little lead at 10 & 2 helps, but the swingweight is already pretty high.

I’m using the mods that @Mareqnyc suggested in his thread; 3g of lead at 12 ( spread with 1/4 tape along the tip). I also have a Wilson buttcap because I like more flare. The weight in the hoop is dynamite for me. The SW is similar to the 330 (higher probably in the DR98) but it plays very differently due to the weight distribution. I actually realized that the “hammer” setup works very well for me, especially with my FH (and serve). I use a close to full western grip with a lot of wrist movement and snap back. Combined with the feel of the DR98, it works great. Helps me to straighten out my shots and get more power and spin into the ball. Only downside is that I break strings within 4h but I can live with that.

Speaking of butt caps, coming from Wilson I always "coin toss" M or W, makes me wonder if I like the less flare, do any of the wilson trap doors fit on the Yonex butt cap?

@alidisperanza, what tension are you using in your gut /black knight combo?

@Matto , I think I had it at 52/50 because I was using crapo-gut on a lock-out machine; to wit, my first half-set snapped on me at the grommets when tensioning. If using anything of quality I'd bump this to 54-55 for the gut ~52 for the poly. Keep in mind, I play full beds of poly between #48-50 strung on a crank/lockout machine.

@alidisperanza, I usually play with black knight in the 48-46 range. In the past I've tried gut and gut hybrids but have only ocationally clicked with it. Would like to give this setup a shot in the VCP. Thanks for the input.

Must say I'm impressed by tw matching, matched to the half gram. They did screw it up and put 10.72oz, when they really meant probably 11.72oz.
