well the thing with this is weird vibrations I get from hitting the ball. It might appeareafter re-stringing to solinco revolution, now I have high-pitch frequency sound after the contact, so I decided to look what could have caused it.

Well, then either remove it (but this will cause a change in weight which might be significant - and therefore has to be rectified), or fill the other side if the racquet is still not heavy enough.

One last thing, before you start digging the stuff out... check that none of the grommets are busted or that there are no cracks in the frame.

Hope you solve it and the racquet plays well for you.

anybody know a place where I can still get the 2018 version of this stick?

this one. I was rather underwhelmed with the updates; dampening felt mushy, wider beam not to my liking, the list goes on.

spec wise looks good thanks. but what about feel/playability? I usually don't like it when they put these new age super duper dampening technologies in it.

it's the identical carbon frame in a different colour, with a thin vibration dampening mesh added to the handle, so the feel is slightly different, I find it better, but the racquet is esentially identical. here I'm speaking of the dark green/gold one, compared to dark blue/orange, I'm not talking about the newest 2021 one. however, since I played for many years with RF97A, and then with dark blue/orange VCP 330g for a year or so, I can easily say that this new 97H is better in every way than both, a fabulous racquet

thanks for the input, appreciate it. slightly different as in more muted? less?

probably, but more muted doesn't mean "muted", just not as direct, and sometimes jarring as the dark blue/orange one. I hit hard, and those frames have stiff hoop and some flex in the throat, so they absolutely don't like higher tensions, they become jarring to off hits. so for me, and most I'd guess, the addition of VDM to the handle is totally welcome. but if you don't hit as hard, and play it with a softer string - nat gut hybrid for example, your experience might be different

new 97H is still better in every way..

I have a 2018 and 2019 version of the vcp310. I can move between the two seamlessly. Some people find the vibration dampening mesh makes a difference in feel, but I really don’t notice it. I often use gut/poly set ups, so I tend to be on the softer end of things anyway. Maybe if I was using a full poly set up, a difference in dampening would be more noticeable.

I know this is an old thread but I am getting a good deal on the VCP 330 grams 2018 (dark blue/orange version). A bit of context:

I am a counter puncher that likes to play flat on both shots (2h bh).

I don’t really like to swing hard because I’m just not the best timer of the ball so a heavier racket where I don’t have to swing as hard to achieve depth is what I seek. Same goes for serves, as I just want to keep it simple, not swinging too hard and let the racquet do its thing) .

What are some of the strings I can use with this racquet?

I have a reel of hyper g 1.20 gauge lying around. I typically play at 50lbs (with my ezone 2022 100).

I recently obtained an emerald green VCP97 (2019) and was wondering if anyone has “MATG” written on the top of their handle?

My navy VCP97 doesn’t have the same writing, however.

The title reads MATG. It must mean something.
Probably matte green.

Ahh, that’s probably it—thank you!

But think about it --
  • They don't need three letters to mean matte.
  • If the letters are for internal use, they don't need to write it, 'cos the paint job is already there.
  • String pattern is also already there and they still write it on the throat, but that's for potential customers. This MATG isn't meant to be shown.
  • If it's for those who do handle assembly, why? Aren't handles the same on different models, at least for Yonex?

That’s what spurred me to find out more.
I purchased this racquet from someone who received it from Stan Wawrinka’s Ballman NFT giveaway. It has the IP code but not the 95D mold. Interestingly enough, it’s supposed to be the 310 version rather than the 330.

The letters should be part of the frame rather than the handle. So it must be to indicate the handle that goes with it (to contain VDM) or that the mold is different but needs to be painted as matte green.

I’m assuming Stan requested a special batch to giveaway that matched the latest model at the time. Whether there is more to the story, I’ll have to do some more testing.

I’ll get around to weighing it and comparing it to the previous retail model I have. Then I’ll get them strung up with the same string.

Can anyone compare this frame (310g or 290g) to newer frames like the blade v9, radical Mp '23 or percept 97?
I played some time with the VCP 97 310g 2021 and was wondering if the 2018 has an but more pop due to higher stiffness? At least TW review was praising thus one highly

Percept has more power compared to vcp 97 2021, control is the same. In my opinion, the Blade V9 has significantly more power than these two rackets, but it is also much harder to play, no matter how user friendly some say it is. Percept becomes lively with 3-4 grams of lead, but here again I come to Boom Pro, which in stock form has solid power, control, maneuverability and is the most user friendly of all the rackets mentioned. After all, if you come with a VCP 97, you will get used to it very quickly because Boom Pro and VCP head shapes are the most similar compared to all the rackets you mentioned.

Thank you for your answer, but maybe my question was a bit confusing.
I would like to know how the VCP 97 2018 plays in terms of power compared to the for example VCP 97 2021 or Percept 97. The 2018 was listed stiffer overall and had a decent power Rating in the TW Review, but those reviews are all over the place sometimes.
As i own(ed) and/or played VCP '21, Percept, Blade, Radical, both Boom Pro itterations (which i could not settle with), those frames could be used to compare the power levels of the VCP 2018, if anyone can at all.

VCP 2019-20 had a stability and feel issue imho. The VCP 2018 and the Duel G before it were racquets with good control power & feel. The 2019-2021 period was a period of mush, 2019-20 was mushy & unstable. Of course the heavier versions remained stable but the “g” 310s had this dip. Percept brought back the feel and stability that these racquets had lost for about 4 years. I don’t know the Blade, so can’t comment. I’ve now switched away from Yonex bc of that bad experience, but when I tested the Percept I was impressed.
