Had the ai98 and tried the dr98 as well. Good racquets but both had that hollow beam feel. I figured the ezone with the same beam shape retains a similar feel, therefore never bothered to try it. The vcp97 feels more like a traditional box beam stick.
I tried a friend's DR98 and I can't feel the ball when it contacts the racquet for some reason. He had a full bed YPTP 16L gauge string job at 52lbs. It might have been comfortable, but felt like I was hitting blind. It felt even more disconnected than my Prince O3 Tour Mid strung with Kev/ZX, for all the "muted feel" reviews people gave the O-ported racquets.

i think its the extra dampening they add in the throat grommets and handle. and aforementioned hollow beam.

This is the now the third time I have gone to the courts and one of the pros has come over and asked to hit with my VC97. It’s pretty wild. I have never seen a frame attract so much attention. It’s not a very loud color or anything, but it grabs people’s attention apparently.
Yup,.. I've even seen a few kids hitting it, which is rare. Most kids don't like this type of frame.

I did a full bed of RS Lyon 1.25 in the 310 tonight - highly recommend it. It plays amazing at around 46#s. Tons of power and spin. It also has a nice crisp bite to it which really feels good in the 310. Il do another full bed of Max Power rough in my second frame, same tension, and post my comparisons on both.

@Power Player Are you stringing the crosses lower than the mains? I find that it works really well in the yonex frames. I string in kilos, so I do the crosses 1kg less than the mains. Opens up the sweet spot and provides a smoother, more plush response.

Same- I do 52/50 in mine. It comes off the stringer close to 51#s and drops to 46 or so after an hour of hitting. So majority of the time the stringbed plays at 46#s, which is what I want. This frame has deceptive power so I don’t like the tension to get much lower than 45 over the course of 8-12 hours I have the strings in.

well that makes sense now... you string it at 51ish to play at 46....

Yeah exactly. If you ask the stringer or you string it at the tension you want to play at, you will end up playing at a lower tension after an hour or so with poly. so I usually think of the absolute lowest I want to play at and add 7 pounds to that. 43#s or so at the end of the life of the string bed will work for me in the 310.

I still have my galaxy black 98 sitting around and I can’t help but notice that the handle on the the vcore 97 seems to have a better buttcap definition. Usually the YY buttcaps are pretty non existent but this one doesn’t bother me. I may very well just be getting used to Yonex handles after years of owning them, but the Vcore Pro definitely seems to have a little more flair to it, at least for me.

Does anyone know if fakes of the vcore pros exist? Theres a few brand new 330’s on the big auction site being sold brand new with free shipping for almost 50 bucks cheaper than TW and i am skeptical.

Hi Power Player, can you please compare VCP 310 and Phantom 93p, comfort, feel, power, control etc

Hi, very similar frames for me. I prefer serve and volley with the P93. The feel is great on both tough to compare, but I have always loved the Yonex Tour G feel so this is one of my favorites ever. Prince is right there. I can go either way. Control, I give to the prince, but it’s super close. Power is Vcore, only because it generates fantastic power at 20 grams less. Both are highly comfortable.

I really love both frames. The Yonex is getting a lot of time for me because it’s new but also because I can play it at stock weight and it feels and plays like a 12 ounce frame.

My two cents, had a 93p, for me the VCore Pro 97 is a better all around frame. It has a richer/fuller/thicker stable feel, generates more pop and spin while still being a true players frame. Didn't gel with the 93p and 100p in the Phantom line. But absolutely loved the Phantom Pro 100 (non-ports). The Phantom Pro 100 requires weight, once you get the swing-weight to around 330 it shines. If you want a soft flexy feel, then the Phantom Pro 100 is the best current frame on the market IMO. If you want an all rounder players frame that does everything well without modifying and tinkering then the VCore Pro 97 is the best current frame on the market IMO. If you are looking for a modern replacement for classic mid-plus players frames, again the VCore Pro 97 is the way to go IMO.

I agree on a lot of that especially the last sentence, which is dead on. The vcore is the most complete frame i have owned, in the fact that there are no compromises at all. Usually with a buttery feel or thin box beam you need it to be heavier to have modern power. Or with a 16x19 you lose some control to get spin. Or to play at a lighter weight you need the RA higher.

Yonex made a higher twistweight thin beam frame that feels soft and classic and plays extremely solid at a low weight, plus allows heavy spin generation. They really nailed it at all levels. I was comparing it to my pa+ just to make sure i was not crazy, and the power levels were really not dramatically different.

The vcp97 is a better frame because it is an easier frame to play with. It does everything the 93p can do at a much lighter, more manageable weight. It is the best frame I’ve ever played with.

I've had both the vcp310 and the phantom pro 100 and i stuck with the phantom for only 1 reason....... it was so hard for me to find the right string to compliment the vcp310 and i've tried soooo many different varieties and combinations. I think the vcp310 is so string sensitive. I had them for about 8 months and just gave up. At least with the phantom pro 100, anything i put on it really accentuates the frame's best characteristics.

Really? Thats odd, since for me, rs lyon 1.25 is fantastic in it. So is max power rough. I even put origin in there and it was great, i just dont like multis. I have not found it to be very string sensitive personally

Interesting. I find the vcp97 to be great with every poly hybrid I’ve tried so far. Only string I didn’t care for was velocity, but I’m not much of a multi guy.

I hit with a lot of topspin and my launch angle was quite low with all of the strings i have tried. Im a 4.5 usta level player. I tried:
Full poly:
Solinco barb wire/tour bite (diamond rough/soft)
Msv focus hex
Genesis twisted razor
Genesis typhoon
Tier one firewire/strike force rip
Luxilon alu power/rough
Weiscannon fire stroke
Pros pro stratagem 8/lethal 5
Various multi and gut hybrids with poly.
All strung from 45-52lbs, lead tape at 3 and 9 and 12.
After all of them, i still wasnt happy.

I play mine stock. No lead in the hoop. I hit with a lot of topspin. Cyclone/tour xr 1.25, tour xp 1.30/4g 1.25, cyclone 1.25/v pro 1.23, outlast 1.25, PL2/Max Power 1.25, Max Power Rough/Max power 1.25...all strung around 50/48 to 48/46. They all play fairly similar to me. The exception being max power which doesn’t a pocket the ball as well as the other strings. Plenty of clearance over the net and I can flatten it out when needed. I play at a high 4.0 to low 4.5 level. My 3.5-4.0 friends can’t handle my topspin with this stick. My 4.5-5.0 friends tell me the ball they are seeing is heavy and penetrating with a lot of spin.

Posted on another thread as well..

Right now, I am back and forth between 2 racquets. Yonex VCP97(310) and TT100 (310)... VCP is slightly less comfortable than TT100(310) and requires a little bit more skill from the user but for me, power level and control combo is way superior on VCP97 to any other racquet I have played with... I am just hoping arm doesn't flake on me with VCP. TT100(310) is more comfortable, more stable (it probably does not get more stable than this for 310gr racquet), more powerful (too much for me), little less maneuverable, and mediocre control (launch angle can be little unpredictable). Ohh also due to open pattern TT100 does not help on tension maintenance department for the strings...

Feel is better on VCP as well. I am trying x-perience on VCP97 at a higher tension; if it doesn't work then i am done with that string... VCP97 with multifeel is ok but multifeel has this weird feel (no pun intended) from the sound that it makes to how it feels.... too much ball pocketing, too flimsy... need a little bit more firmness than this... It has impressive spin for a multi and i don't find it particularly comfortable as advertised. If x-perience on VCP97 doesn't work, may try Velocity.... maybe will try rs lyon after that. Too many variables as usual.

I have heard rumor from a store owner (spoke with their Yonex Rep) that they are coming out with some new version of the this racquet in Sept.. I would guess it is just a paint job update. I noticed they were on sale at TW, but they only said it was to move inventory and that a new version wouldn't be out for probably 2 years.

The 310 version is out of stock here, but this is 3rd world, so I don't think it's something relevant [emoji1]
Anyway, all the others models of Yonex are available, so that's curious.

Thats perfect. A new pj is a great way to keep this frame selling without them changing the layup.

Hard to imagine a better looking paint job than the current one tho....

Yonex makes great P/Js so I am interested in what they come up with. I agree the current one is very cool. It is somewhat understated, but grabs people’s attention in person. The original matte orange Tour G looked really awesome as well. The only one I didn’t like was the one after.

But it seems like this series has a theme of light orange in it, so I’m interested in if they play with that a little or go in a wild direction, like they did with the Vcore galaxy black.

I have mentioned earlier in this thread already, but the guys from my local shop told me there will be new models coming out, likely to be in September here. Beside the usual specs, I was told there will be a 18x20 320g model as well.

I believe the racket is actually due to hit the two year mark on the market by the end of this year/start of next. Two years goes by really quickly, so it is actually due for refresh/new version. I hope they don't change much, but that's not the track record with Yonex. They had the DR 98 and switched it up quite a bit with the Ezone 98. Also the other lines have changed quite a bit with each new release.

Let's hope the new version is even better somehow. Also the 18 x 20 configuration has peaked my interest.

Just demo'd this racquet and in a weird way, glad to hear there are better strings out there for this than Velocity as the demo was strung with it and while I didn't really care for the string that much, absolutely fell in love with this racquet. Just checked all the boxes: superb feel, the control I've been looking for in a 16x19 frame, solid as a rock at net, smooth as silk, stellar serving; just increased my confidence in shot-making substantially. So now looking at string options; never been a real fan of poly unless it's fairly soft (have liked several co-polys) and I typically have hybridized it with gut or syngut. Would like to try RS Lyon; thoughts on hybridizing with a gut or other non-poly string?

RS Lyon is amazing in it. Perfect match since it adds a little crispness. I would imagine it would be a great fit with gut as well.

@skeeter Another poly to put on the list is RPM Blast Rough 1.25. It's a very plush/comfortable poly. Nat Gut with RPM Blast Rough in the crosses will be a super comfortable setup. If you are going full poly I would string at 46/44. If you are going to use Nat Gut hybrid with Gut in the mains I would string it at 52/50.

310 for me too.. Great low powered, headlight frame.. You need to generate your own power as with all players sticks.
Haven't hit the 330 bc its simply too heavy. Anything over about 340g total weight is just too much for me.. I get fatigued after an hour and start playing like sh#t
