Yonex VCORE SV

As far as the Tour G vs SV95, I liked the Tour G for its stability and control. I felt like I could really rip into the ball and it would land in. Although that racquet had a decent amount of spin, I think the SV95 offers a bit more but also has an increase in power. I'm not sure why some find the SV95 to play stiff, but I haven't found that. I'm not sure if it's the Yonex feel that I'm so accustomed to, but it is no where near the stiffness rating compared to other brands of racquets with the same RA. The string bed just seems to allow the ball to set in and then it jumps off instantly. I would imagine a weighted up SV95 or SV98 would play like a Tour G but with more pop. Could be interesting to see how my experiment works out in the next few weeks!

Just ordered an sv 95 can't wait for it to get here! Got it strung with your bite at 50 pounds as a starting point. Curious what you all are stringing yours with and what tensions you are liking for this frame?

Depends on your playing style and string type.

If you are using a Poly string and can generate your own spin I suggest high 50s to low 60s.

I'd be curious to know how it works out with leather grip and 3/9 lead. Let us know!

I am winning matches now with the SV98+. It's a unique stick, because it has a healthy swingweight, but its static weight is less than most sticks with such a beefy SW. It's still somewhat headlight, not thick-beamed, 98 sq in head (which I find has more control than the average 100 sq in tweener - I base this claim partly on how often I'm able to pass someone at the net).
I definitely work less hard with this racquet compared to my Pure Control+, and I find the SV to be almost plush in comparison.
I also have a pair of G310 sticks - they are control racquets and pretty comfortable, but they do not have the pop of the SV. The SV serves bigger for sure. One thing that has stood out the most is my accuracy on serve. For whatever reason, It is easier for me to place serves with the SV+. I dont think I can point to any reason for that, though.

How comfortable is the SV 98? I am wondering about vibration from off center strikes, any flex in the throat or hoop?

I found the sv95 to be very powerful, much more than I need it was looking for. In stock form, I found the head to have a lot of flutter on anything outside the smallish sweet spot. With just 2 grams of lead at 12, it really smoothed out the feel of the head.
I never found that great touch at net that's needed for doubles.

But, it was too much power and not enough control for my liking. I'll stick with my customized aerostorms for now.

hit with new sv100 lite. best frame at net EVER. so flexy touch is unreal feel every mishit on contact. only downside is serve lags a little not head light enough. still BUY BUY BUY

Hey guys I just have a question about the headsize of the SV 95 -

It is smaller all around the frame compared to my Head '98/630' frames, which as we sort of know are in reality 95". So.... IDK if the Head people are in this thread but could the Heads be over 95 or is the Yonex actually something like 94.xxx?? It also seems maybe smaller than the Wilson 6.0 and 6.1 95 molds, maybe PWS evens it out though.

Whatever the headsize is the SV 95 plays bigger than what it is for sure.

If you can get the older version - The Vcore Xi 98, do it. They are fantastic and pretty inexpensive.

Co-sign on this. Xi 98 is so stable and muted feeling, with the biggest sweet spot of any Yonex racquet I have played. The stability and clout with high maneuverability are very impressive. It really punches way over its weight.

I'm very much intrigued by this, and I have a mom-and-pop tennis store in my area that actually has a brand new Vcore Xi 98 priced at $150, I'm wondering if it's worth buying it at that price considering the SV 98 is just $60 more and it's the most "updated" model? Is the difference between the two significant enough? It feels overpriced to me at $150 but considering I can't even find a good Xi 98 on the internet marketplaces at this time, it must say something about the quality of the racquet that people don't want to part with it, and maybe this is in actuality, a golden opportunity to get a new one?

This racquet seems to be very similar to the new Ezone 98, somehow. @tomato123 if you look on tennis warehouse used, you can find xi 98s for like 69.99 dollars sometimes.

Demoed SV98 last week. Super easy to swing, great spin and power. Has anyone played PS97 and SV98? Need to pick one.. :)

Thanks! Did you move away from sv98 due to stiffness? And what did ps97 lack coated to sv98...

I mean I don’t have SV98. But I have both PS and SV95. I love the plow through of PS. I think SV95 I swing faster and it does almost have similar power on strokes. More power on serves. But if you can swing as fast with PS, the PS is awesome.

I produce same power with PS swinging with less effort. Great stability and feeling when hitting. I think maybe SV has a flexy feel people like to say but PS is like stable and firm and easy to hit with. When dialed in I like the SV since I’d rather swing faster and also use more energy. Obviously in a long match or a pro, maybe PS might be better. But I will say I like that I think I can control shots more with SV95 and the lightness I can whip around and manuever.

Then again, I don’t have SV98 but I’m guessing 98 is just more powerful.

I owned an sv98+. Liked well enough but started to make my forearm sore. It's gone now. I found it to be a Jack of all trades, but a master of none..... And my arm hurt. Returned.

After 2 solid weeks of playing with the SV98 with my preferred customization setup, I am happy to make the switch from DR98. To me the SV98 definitely was more powerful and stiff compared to the DR98, and initially I believed I could overcome the lack of feel after spending enough time with it. But I just couldn't shake off how comfortable the DR98 felt and the SV98 kept feeling plastic-y on impact using a poly/ZX hybrid. But after giving the Ashaway Crossfire kevlar/zx setup a try at 60/40 this string setup turned out to be the missing piece that bridged together the two frames and bring the feel and comfort of the DR98 to the power and spin of the SV98. Control was phenomenal as well. My impressions of the crossfire on the SV98 can be found on the kevlar/zx thread, but a couple observations about the racquet itself from a newbie racquet customizer:

My impression of the SV98 is that moreso than the power and spin potential, it feels like it has a large "swingweight potential" in that you have a lot more room to increase swingweight before it starts to become unproductive and needs to compensate with weight in the other end of the racquet. So in essence, perhaps this is the type of racquet that will allow you to efficiently have both high swingweight and head lightedness to make those fast swings and produce the powerful spin on your groundstrokes. This efficiency of increased swingweight and head-lightedness also produced great results for volleys which perfectly suits my net rushing game. Not quite sold on the validity of the aero fins business, but maybe there is actually something about racquet technology that will allow you to make fast swings with higher swingweight as well *shrug*. But all on all, once I found the strings that brought the feel into the racquet, it was an absolute joy to swing with it.

Quick follow up question -

If I'm looking to try out the SV95, is there enough of a difference between the 98 and 95 that would warrant a change in string tension based on the reference tension of the SV98? I know that for all intents and purposes it will likely produce a tighter stringbed, but how much difference in tightness can I expect? If the difference is minimal I don't mind keeping it the same, but given all the subtle differences in the frames I don't mind tweaking the tension if the difference will be noticeable.

@tomato123, if you are a clean hitter I suggest that you string the 95 at least 4lbs tighter than your pref. 98 tension as a starting point. The 98 is a stiffer frame than the 95. Stringing the 95 tighter compensates for the difference. But you must be able to hit cleanly to get the most out of the 95.

I think sv 95 plays best with full poly between 45-52lbs max ... So be smart and don't hurt yourself trying too high at first.

I strung with Yonex Poly Tour Pro 1.20 at 51lbs and it feels good in the middle but harsh at the tip of the frame. Gut hybrid at 54/52 or full PTP 1.20 at 47lbs wut would be perfect for me.. I think

It has been more than one year since I switched to the Yonex VCore SV 95 from the VCore Tour 97 and I am still loving it so far. I also switched to the Poly Tour Fire 1.25 for the crosses with Babolat VS Team from the Luxilon ALU Power which I think suits the frame better because it is softer than ALU Power and it holds tension better.

I have an SV95 in my bag besides my Angells. Really enjoy this frame and happy to get another one if someone wants to get rid of theirs ;)

Any love for the SV100?

It's a nice frame. I'd prefer it to be a little more HL, but overall a very nice one. I've been hitting with it for a couple of months. It is more comfortable than I would have thought for its stiffness, but not as plush of a feel as the DR98/DR100. The sweetspot is very generous on the SV100 and it is able to generate a good amount of spin. I'd like to make it a bit more HL, but am worried about making it too heavy. I just ordered some putty and lead tape, leather grip. I also ordered up a DR98 (285) to try customizing to see if I can get the plushness of the standard DR98 with weight closer to the SV100 but in a more HL balance.

Should also note, My SV100 is strung up with Solinco Hyper G 16 at 52lbs. It's starting to get springy though now so time to switch it up. I'll try a multi in it next which may be a little lighter as well so that may help with the balance (along with a little tungsten putty in the handle). I'm planning to have it strung with Gosen AK Control 17 next.

I found the SV 98 to have more flex in the upper hoop then the 95. So much that I thought the SV 98 had a hinge up there. Did not like that at all. Someone from another thread agreed and said the flex in the 95 is more constant, so while having a lower RA score it plays stiff because it's smaller and the flex is more natural than the hinge feeling of the SV 98.

Does anyone else feel like the SV 98 tip is not part of the same racquet?

I only got to hit with the SV 95 for an hour and it was stock. I did like it but will have to demo and add some mass. I'm in the middle of getting my 97RFs down to 340g strung with lighter strings and grip. If I don't like that set up I'm going back to Yonex or Radical Pro. Love the Rad XT but it's just got a strange feel, but hit great with it. Have SV 98+ and Rad Touch Pro coming tomorrow to demo. But in my gut, thinking a slightly heavier SV 95 is in the future. Anyone else play with these sticks and have some feedback?

Not a gun player, but do own and use most of the above. Love the Rf97 but I can’t serve well with it, so I don’t use it for Comp/fixtures. It’s too heavy for me... The sv95 I have used for quite a while with leather grip and 2 grams at 3 & 9 (353g total) Plush and powerful. Very solid. I recently picked a sv98+ after hearing Michelle’s comments comparing it the rf97. Only hit with it once so far. Compared to my sv95 it’s much stiffer. I have both strung with gut/poly at 53/50. My arm was a bit tender afterwards. Even just bouncing a ball on it, big difference. The beam is thicker too on the 98. Only 1mm, but it explains a lot. It may be better with weight but mine is stock for now. Much prefer my 95 and rembering it stock, it was still softer. Hate admitting this, but right now am playing Comp with the new ezone98 with just 2g at 12 and I’m serving better than ever by a huge margin. It doesn’t feel beastly like the modded sv95 or the Rf but I’m playing better with it and it’s not bothering my arm, even at only 336grams the ezone98 is nice and plush and ridiculously easy to wield.

Has anyone tried natural gut/poly hybrid on the SV 98 or SV 95? I'd like to try it on my SV 98 and I'd like to know how much it could help compensate for the stiffness/feel on the frame, and I'm also wondering if the natural gut mains would produce too much power.

I use Babolat VS Team mains and Yonex Poly Tour Fire 1.25 crosses on my SV95. Good amount of power and very comfortable. It would definitely take out the stiffer feel of the SV98.

Probably Yonex using their player’s input to develop a new line? On a another thread, it was seen that Denis Shapovalov was testing a blacked out racquet too.

I've used Tonic Ball Feel and longevity with Cyclone 19g on the SV98+, @ 58-63/50 (ball feel) and 55-57/50(longevity) and it's plusher and has plenty of bite. I've never found the racquet to be overly stiff anyhow, although it's certainly not plush like the DR98, which is also 2 steps down from my RF97A. Powerwise, I don't think it's too powerful. The added power is always welcome and I adjust well enough that it would only affect me depending on the conditions of the day. Only on the lowest pressure hot days on a fast court, when balls are just light and full of energy, do I feel I wish I'd strung it 4lbs tighter. That's normal for me for any racquet

Hey Swansong,
That sounds like a sweet setup... Wondering how much spin you hit with (ie, how long before that set up breaks) and what tension you’re stringing it at - and if you were to do a full Yonex Poly tour Fire what you’d go for... gracias!

Blackout racquet is bad phone pic. Check Shapovalov’s Instagram, most recent training posts he’s clearly swinging the SV95 in training.

I string mine on the tight side at 28/27 kilos and if I were to use just one racquet, I would probably get 12 hours; however I rotate mine between four so I get about 2 months since I am a relatively flat hitter. If you were to do Poly Tour Fire, I would probably string it at 23 kilos or 50 pounds. Spin is very good with this racquet considering the fact that it is a 16X20 pattern and the headsize is more like a 93 in2.

That’s interesting you mention it’s more like a 93 sq inch. I’ve seen people comment that the 95 plays “bigger” than 95 square inches which is why I’ve been thinking about transitioning to the sv 95 from the 98 for the increased comfort. When I demoed the 95 I don’t think I noticed any significant increase in difficulty using it and I feel like most of the adjustments I needed to make were on the mental end, but I didn’t play with it as long as I would have liked. I also have a duel G that plays super solid all around but the the kind of spin potential I get from the SV frames is really addictive. What was your transition like going from the tour 97 to the sv95? I feel like that could help me get a better point of comparison with my duel G 97... thanks for all your insights in this thread!

The SV95's are the only frames I've used since November 2016. All my Textreme 95's, ProStaff 90's, Prestige Mids, and that damn RF97 are collecting dust in the closet.

Aint nothing better than an SV95 with leather grip and IsoSpeed Black Fire 1.25 at 60lbs.

I've now tried the sv95, sv98, sv98+, sv100

I like them all!
So far I get pushed around a bit too much when trading groundstrokes with the SV95 so I thought it was just not enough racquet for me.
They all serve great but I thought I served best with the SV98+. More spin and power than the others.
The sv100 was powerful and had nice high launching balls with lots of spin.
But the sv98 is probably the best compromise of all of them. The head size difference between the 95&98 is so negligible that I am going to keep trying to make the sv95 work for me.
Most of the difference between frames seems to be beam thickness and flex.
Going to play doubles with the SV95 tonight to see if it can work or if I need to swap it out for the 98 or 100.

I think I will compare the sv100 to the Ezone 100 too...

I love volleys with the SV95 best but SV98 isn't bad
I can't get enough spin and power personally with the SV95 though... (I've been using the Pure Aero Plus for a while so the power levels are quite different!).
My serve is by far my big strength so for that the SV98+ wins.
But return of serve with the + can get a little sluggish so overall I'd have to say again sv98 ... But all of them can get the job done!!! Depends on your style and technique really.

The SV95 is actually a 93. I stacked the R-22 and the RQ-180 on top and it was almost the same headsize.
Strange.. but the sv93 must have been smaller than the 95... putting rackets on top of eachother never enlightened me, they are all almost the same..
