89t is great for touch shots as well. Hitting drop shots with the 89t using Golden Set Snake Bite gauge 16, the drop shots would turn a full 90 degree turn with a slow swing, which is similar to the POG OS in this aspect. With Discho Iontec gauge 17 string the ball would stop. With the other two rackets I would need to increase my racket head speed to hit those same type of drop shots.
In terms of feel the 89t feels firmer than the ti70 and mp tour 1. All three sticks allowed me to hit out; however, given the same effort the 89t produces a ball that is faster with more spin. Angles are sharper as well with the 89t. The racket plays just like how Yonex advertises 3d spin. It's very easy to change the direction of your shots at will with total depth and desired spin control. I think the 89t has the precision and control of the ti70 with more spin.
89t is a racket you get what you put in. Very accurate with a lot of spin on demand if you choose to spin the ball with fast racket head speed. Flat shots work very well as well.
One of the strong points of this racket is it's very stable in stock form. 89t is the most stable compared to the MP Tour-1 and RD Ti70. Plus the 89t is very manuverable as well.
Fastest forehand I got in was 92mph using the 89t, so it is definitly possible to hit the ball hard if you choose.
When comparing the 89t with the Wilson K90 the 89t pretty much all the shot making properties of the K90 with a softer feel. Going from a K90 to a 89t I did hit the net more often because the K90 really pushes and plows through which covered my errors a bit. This is like driving an automatic car vs a manual car. Once I adjusted and extend through a bit more with the 89t the netting ground stroke issue pretty much goes away.
it looks like it's a winner. I love most of yonex mids and the fact that they are all improved from each other. I thought the RDS001 mid was pretty much perfect. Maybe a little too muted, but it does everything really well, big sweetspot and tons of power and spin. Have you tried it? How does the 89T improve on the rds001?
I also loved the K90, maybe the stiffness was a bit too much in the long run, but very much to my liking too!
