Yonex - Wilson grip size suggestion

Hello all,

I an thinking about buying a new Yonex racquet and, since I see around on this forum that Yonex grip sizes run a size bigger than Wilson's, I thought about asking for a suggestion. This is me holding a Wilson L3 (3/8) sized racquet (where I replaced the original grip with Head Hybrosorb pro):

I think I feel comfortable with this, although I have never tried any bigger grip to be sure. Should I get the Yonex L2(1/4) or L3(3/8) size ? On the new racquet I am probably going to apply a gamma supreme overgrip.

Many thanks.

If you feel like the 4 1/4 is a little small, pretty much any aftermarket replacement grip will make your grip larger since Yonex has by far the thinnest stock grip.

So, what I do is size down on the Yonex, replace the base grip with the Tecnifibre Wax Max (2.1mm thick), and then replace the Yonex butt cap w/ the larger Wilson.

For example, I prefer closer to 4 1/2, so I buy Yonex 4 3/8, replace the base grip, then put on a Wilson 4 1/2 butt cap. Yonex grips have barely any flare, and like Donkey...I like big butts...

For sure go L2 if you want the final size you are showing. Previous Blade 98 in L3 user and now use L2. I was on the same boat and I’m glad I went with L2

Also I would go with L2. I have both and by Yonex L3 is bigger than by Wilson.

Yes. I do this to my Yonex. Buy one size down, install 2.1mm replacement grip. Beware of the weight increase though. Yonex grip is very light, so changing grip will add weight. Usually i will buy one grip size smaller and lighter one, change the grip, and add additional weight.

For reference:

Is this the recommendation still valid for 2023 Yonex rackets?
I am in between size 4 and size 5 (closer to 5) so what grip size do I want to get my Yonex Ezone racket?

I'd demo. I tried one grip size down in Yonex and it was too small and had almost no stability. I stay same grip size unless you could go smaller.

I owned 3 Yonex Vcore98 2023, as I postet in the vcore thread, for me personally it was the first time that the yonex grip size 2 with overgrip was just right. Other yonex rackets like dr 98l, Yonex Ezone 98 2020 and 2022 where at least a half size to big.

I’ve been reading this too. Some people are saying that Yanni has changed the size of their pallets and made them similar to other brands. While I didn’t experience this on the 2022 ezone, I’d like to get my hand on the 2025 to see if it’s true.

I’d say it was changed in the slightest, but I’d say that’s dependent on player preference. I’d still size down.

I was using a Grip 2 2022 Ezone for a while, but recently picked up a Grip 1 2025 Ezone, which is much closer to the grip size I’m use to (Grip 2).

Compared to my (Grip 2) Auxetic 1.0 Radical, the 2025 is almost identical girthwise.

I tried a few thin leather grips (Kimony and OEHMs) to drop the size of my 2022 Ezone, the Kimony one did allow me to do so, but I prefer the stock replacement grip that comes on Yonex racquets. I found the Kimony was equivalent to using an overgrip thickness-wise.

This is something to keep in mind that is very true, that hasn’t changed:
