Trainer- your only chance would have been if your captain came out and said that you had no knowledge whatsoever of them taking the team default. If he said that, I think your appeal would have likely been granted. OR at least I should say if I were hearing the case thats the information I would need to have to reinstate you. OTherwise it just seems like you are trying to take the lawyerly way out and that wouldn't fly with me.
 
Trainer, my view is that this was a very unusual situation, it is unlikely to happen again, and you'd probably be best off forgetting the whole ugly scene happened. Lick your wounds and buck up, as the English say. :) Life is too short for you to have to put any more energy into this.

Having said that, I think the USTA handled all of this badly. EVERYONE in the USTA should be on the same page, but often aren't because these team tennis rules are lengthy, and more honored in the breach, or so it seems

I think he rightfully was DQ'd from the tournament, but the only players who should have been suspended from future play are those that CHOSE not to play in the final match. So he shouldn't be included since he's not allowed to play nor would any teammates who weren't there to play.
