You guys are all corrupt - Shapovalov

I was watching on catchup and I was able to skip forward 30s between points while Nadal was serving and didn't miss him hitting his first serve.

Because contrary to popular belief Fed's not the establishment darling, one guess who very much is though.

It becomes parodic when Rafans use this incident against one of the fastest players in the game, while defending Rafa holding up his racquet to make the server wait and even when he says "no no no!" if the server ruthlessly hit an ace passed him to his dislike :D

The match with Kyrgios in Acapulco, o dear...

Federer very much is the Establishment.

Nah, they gave him a time violation recently against Cilic. And constantly put Novak and him in the same half off clay in 2008-2012 which benefited Nadal tremendously.

They even changed the surface here to try and help him win.

One tournament in a single year (which wasn't even fast but medium-fast) pales in comparison to systemic slowdown of the game across the board to help Nadal catch-up in the slam race, in addition to letting him ignore the time rule whenever he feels like it and starting the shot clock later for him.

I think Shapovalov is spot on - as long as the shot clock is there, it should dictate.

And, seriously, Bernardes is like a clown when he says "you're not ready, you come to talk to me". That's acting moronic, and close to deliberate sabotage as I see it. If it was humour, I think it's misplaced. Players want to focus on the job, not dealing with stupidities from umpires.

Who do you think you're kidding. Wimbledon continued to let him play continuously on Centre Court until the outcry grew too loud. As soon as he was sent to Court One he lost. He's Establishment through and through.

Who do you think you're kidding.

Right back at you.

Wimbledon continued to let him play continuously on Centre Court until the outcry grew too loud.

That only happened in 2017, he played at least one match on Court One every other year and usually won those matches in straights (like against Simon in 2015 for example).

As soon as he was sent to Court One he lost. He's Establishment through and through.

He lost because he was old an injured not because he played on Court One.

I wonder if Shapo was trying to throw Rafa off at that point, because he was playing poorly and Rafa was playing quite well.

He was going for that because that came out of nowhere. He could have waited for Rafa to take very long and then complained if he really was concerned with that.

oh my... just when you think the nadal has committed every possible offense in tennis, he comes up with a new trick! o_O
we already knew it, but he strenghtens his reputation of the biggest cheater we ever had in the sport, and ever will.

a true sad day for tennis...

This 100%.
Nadal is a cheater, always was !!!

Now this is a very good idea. Line judges are replaced by electronic call. Why not the umpire also? Umpire can't see both side of the court at the same time. They often don't see what happens at the other side of the court when they look the other way.
My opinion is that calling the time violations should not be at the discretion of the umpires like it is now. If they want to enforce the rules, there should be an automatic buzzer at the end of 25 seconds. In fact, in the Hawkeye era, there is no need for umpires altogether.

and... i know it might sound revolutionnary, but...... how about me calling the time violations? :giggle:

Bernardes is just scared of Nadal. Nadal has put pressure on him alot in the past for calling violations against him and verbally yelled at him. All that in the end culminates into what we are seeing now - nadal breaking rules and stalling with no repurcussions. All that just so he can play mind games and control the pace of the game.

They should put revolving laser disco lights on each net post, on top of the Umpires Chair, and at each corner of the far reaches of the court. When there are 5 seconds left on the Serve Clock, the lights should automatically activate. If the player has not hit the serve by the time the lights go out, they receive a Time Violation. After the third violation, the light on top of the Umpire's chair dispatches a short laser blast targetted on the offending player. Just enough to give the player a little hurry up.

Shapovalov doesn't know that the rules have changed.

ATP calls time on toilet breaks in new guidelines for men’s tennis

  • Players limited to one three-minute bathroom break per match
  • Additional two minutes to be allowed to change clothes
Strict new guidelines on toilet breaks during matches have been sent to players by the ATP after growing calls to make lengthy visits to the bathroom a thing of the past. The guidelines for the men’s game will limit bathroom breaks to one per match, lasting no longer than three minutes from the time the player enters the facility.

I guarantee most of you are older than Shapovolov and yet your reactions to a heat of the moment outburst show me that you have no business talking about maturity.

The fact that they had to enforce a 25 sec time clock after points speaks more to the times we’re living in, in an era where people can’t focus more than 2 mins on a task and need to constantly swipe through their phones it is no wonder that the powers that be are looking to bring tennis into the mainstream at the cost of player’s health.

What level of entertainment do these suits think players can provide when they’re still catching their breath after a 15+ shot rally during their serve motion?

Watching one guy pick his butt for 40 seconds isn’t my idea of good sports entertainment.

I didn't see the match but it's a tall task for Shapo to beat Zverev & Nadal back to back. If Shapo were to meet Nadal instead of Zed then Nadal would have been toast but it wasn't possible for Shapo to bring the same against Nadal or the same mindset.

Shapo is also hot headed and Nadal is known for his on court tactics, so Shapo needed to be aware of that and not let himself get into Nad's tactics and stick to his own game. And if he has anger then he needs to channel it the same way as Djokovic does otherwise Shapo won't see much success.
