I use alu power 125 main, PSGD cross. strung at 49/51 in my 93p. It plays pretty well imo. Its a bit low in spin, but it is enough for me. I also like the softer response with the syn gut so I will keep using it unless I decide I need more spin/durability etc that comes from a poly.

Wilson PS90 Asian version. 16x19 pattern. Prince Synthetic Gut Duraflex 17g. I love it. Super comfortable, loads of control, loads of spin. On a hot day I have no lack of power, can get the ball really deep.
I've also tried Ashaway Liberty 16g as it was on sale. Don't like it as much as the Prince.
What tension?

What tension?
55lbs as that's what stringer recommended. I was going to go for 52. It felt a little bit stiff when freshly strung, but it settled in really nicely.
Even when freshly strung it was so much more comfortable than the poly hybrid that was in there originally.

Combo of forten sweet, gosen sheep micro, head pps. I've had good experience with PSG duraflex and original too. I will hybrid a syn gut with natural gut sometime too.

I've been happy with HyperG/Wilson Sensation Comfort. I currently have a few sets of Gamma Pro to mix in there as well. I will say don't go with something solely on price b/c string is always cheaper than having arm issues that take you off the courts for extended time.

I know that I've used PSGD 17 in one or two of my old mids before and I found that same window of tension to work surprisingly well. I typically poo-poo that particular string in 16 ga. because it's generally too stiff and clunky feeling for me. When the 17 ga. settled in and felt rather good, I realized that I shouldn't crab about it so much. Sometimes certain combos of strings and tensions and racquets just click.

Gosen OGSM has also been a little too stiff for me and I'll usually only use the 16 ga. option as a cross in a simple poly hybrid if somebody asks me for that. I put a full bed of OGSM 17 ga. in my Volkl C10's this fall, but used 4-5 lbs. lower tension than what I've used with softer 17 ga. syn. guts. Along the lines of the PSGD 17 (although a larger racquet head), it settled in and worked pretty well.

So,

Since the SynHeads all hang in this thread I thought it was as good as any to mention ...

... that we should all try a set or two of the TOURNA Synthetic Gut Armor in both colors (blanc or noir).

I just laced up one of my reference sticks with the white 16. gauge. tbh, I think I went a little soft (it's a 16x20/626 cm²) but I have nothing bad to say about it in the little hitting I gave it the other night.

In the hand it feels/looks like the Wilson Power or Dunlop S-Gut but with a smoother "top coat" kind of finish. The knots did not slip when the clamp was opened like some of the oily-slick twine.

Also, if we like it, the reel pricing seems very, very good. But TW doesn't stock it yet, so use websearch for that knowledge.

Cheers,
/Acey

4.0/4.5 tournament player and I currently use Gosen OGSM 17g. Tried the Ghosen OGSM 18g but lost a little control while gaining some power. Went back to 17g. Tried Head Velocity but it was too muted. Have used Prince synth gut but its too stiff. Now looking at Gamma Synth Gut 17g as it has everything Ghosen OGSM offers, but better tension retention and more spin potential.

I'm a chronic string breaker. I've tried soft polys, NG, multis, and syn. gut. They all last me about the same (yep, even ng) which is why I prefer the feel of the syn. gut. Nat gut (Wilson) is the preferred, but at the price point, going with syn. gut is a no brainer.

For me it is Gamma syn. gut 17g mains at 22kg and Pro's Pro Concept 17g crosses at 20.5kg. This is on a Wilson k90.

I've tried a few syn guts and found much the same response between them. The more powerful ones tend to break earlier and loose tension faster. I typically use 1.30mm syn gut mains (wilson syn gut/pros pro/dunlop s gut) at 26kg with a smooth poly cross in 1.25mm at 22kg. To me it plays more comfortable and powerful than FB of poly (even when poly is strung at 19kg) whilst keeping a good amount of spin and control. Lasts well enough until sun gut breaks. Usually in about 8hrs singles or roughly double that doubles

I love a new set of SynGut.. Used Prince Orig 17g @52, but had to have 4 frames because I would break at least 1 set of strings and on occasion 3 during a USTA match. Since I don't string my own rackets, it was $$$. Since switching to poly, I usually break 1x a month or cut at the one month and ended up saving money.

For the record earlier this year when I went to a 16x19 - I started breaking my poly in 3 hours and had to drop the guage down to 16.

Gosen OG Sheep Micro plays well in about every frame I’ve tried it in. Will always try to have a reel on me now.

Gotta agree. It's a string that while not a standout in any one area, does everything fairly well. For me, OGSM 17 in the natural color is comfortable enough, adequate spin, reasonably durable and very playable. Personally, I would rate PSGD 17 slightly higher for playability but either string is fine for me.

Just throw in a wild card here: Prince Tournament Nylon 15 (1.38mm). Strung up a Prince Tour 100 (16x18) with o-ports @ 53 and was very surprised at the playability of this string. More comfort than I expected, but the big surprise was the amount of spin I got. Should be durable with that gauge of course but at a $1.75/set who cares. Very pleasantly surprised.

I absolutely love the way Gamma Synthetic Gut 16 plays. I hybrid it in the mains 57lbs with Yonex Poly Tour Pro, Air and Rev in the crosses 54lbs. I’ve tried a full bed of synthetic gut and I like it for doubles, but it gets moved around too much for singles.

What are your guys thoughts on black OG sheep micro? Would that be good in a hybrid with a string like head lynx or Weiss cannon silverstring, I was thinking in the cross?

I enjoy PSGD as well. Would say OGSM, PSGD, and Ocho TNT would be top three for me.

Cant see why not. Never disliked any string job I’ve done with black 17g in the crosses with poly mains. I think it would pair nicely with Lynx.

Kischbaum SynGut (classic) is my favorite string - usually the 1.30mm version in natural color

Perfect combination with a soft co-poly in the crosses

played and won a double league match last night with an untested full bed of Pro's Pro synthetic gut at 55 pounds. played great and no complaints. I will personally go a little looser next restring just for my own taste. Considering a reel is $29---it played great and very comparable to other synthetic guts. I would probably like it a little crisper, but I really like playing with just synthetic gut!

What tension would you recommend? I use lynx 46 pounds, would 46m/50x with the 16 gauge cross be good?

What racquet do you use? I tend to find syn gut plays great for about 6 hours and then loses too much tension and control. Breaks soon after that for me but the time between losing tension and breaking is so frustrating I tend to cut it out. Prefer syn gut mains and poly crosses for consistency until syn gut breaks

2015 PD team. I typically restring after 2 or 3 hitting sessions since the string is so cheap and I need an excuse to hang out in the garage and string every couple of days for a bit...

Ok. Sounds like you get about the same durability I do in a full bed. I must say that it is a superior setup for touch shots and angled delicate volleys in doubles to anything else I've used.

Sounds like it would work. I guess it depends on the player really and what they’re comfortable with. The good thing is that OGSM is inexpensive so you have more room financially to test things out.

Let me know if your interested in more of it. I have 3 reels just sitting in my closet. I didn’t care for it.

Did anyone go from full poly to syn gut for any reason? If so, how was the change?
I did, for a short time. I was experiencing some golfer's elbow. I played syn gut for a 1.5 months or so to give my arm a rest. I'm now using a different racquet and a syn gut/poly hybrid. I enjoyed playing with a full bed of syn gut though. The sound the ball makes coming off the strings is amazing. The only issue was I had to keep adjusting my strings almost every point, which is why I'm doing the hybrid now. I was using the Ezone Tour now I'm using the new Vcore 95.

Isospeed Baseline Spin 17L @48# x Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17 (white or natural) @53#. I am currently loving this setup.

I've been a long time poly/syn gut user. The poly part has changed through time but I've always used the Gosen and haven't had any desire or curiosity to try anything else.

Gonna be trying OG sheep micro in the mains with sonic pro in the cross. Other ones will be OG/PL2, OG/Lynx. All with sheep in the mains as comfort is the #1 value, wish me luck!

I'm a 4.5 and a massive fan of Solinco Tour Bite Soft 16L in the mains and Solinco Pro Stacked 16 in the crosses. All the benefits of Tour Bite (massive spin and control) without the arm breaking stiffness, with the added feel and power from a synthetic gut. The only drawback is some durability issues, but I string for myself so it's not a problem, and the setup overall is pretty economical.

@AceyMan any updates with the Tourna S. Gut? Did the strings get stuck out of place easily? Can you compare it to anything else in terms of feel?
